Schillaci, Joseph Robert, age 61, of Ensley, passed away November 2, 1999. Mr. Schillaci was survived by his sis ter, Lynda Quinn; brother, Frank R. Schillaci; sister-in-law, Shelly R. Wallace, Meliya Gilbert, age 37, died November 3, 1999, at home with her family. Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1989, she fought courageously and with great dignity against the disease. She is survived by her husband of fifteen years, R. Mark Wallace; her parents, Garry & Marcia Gilbert; her brother, Greg T. Gilbert; her "Big Nanny" and "Pappaw", Blanche & Leon Gilbert; aunts and uncles, Butch & Sandy Turner, Jon & Sandy Gilbert, Russell & Sherry Gilbert, Rhonda & Don Meads; and an extended family of relatives and caring friends. McBrayer, Robert W., age 77, of Hayden, died November 1, 1999. Former member of Union Baptist Church of Lipscomb and Friendship Baptist Church of Clanton. He is currently a member of First Baptist Church of Hayden. Retired from U. S. Steel after 32 years of service. He served in the U. S. Army Air Force during WWII. Private family services only. Blackstock, Mrs. Mildred Kathleen, of Oxford, Ga., age 71, died Monday, April 5, 1999. Mrs. Blackstock retired in 1984 from Hercules. She had been employed for 15 years as Quality Control. Johnson, Golda W., age 83, of North Shelby County, passed away April 5, 1999. She was born and raised in Cull man County, Alabama. The daughter of Samuel and Alice Watson, she was married to Dr. Kermit A. Johnson for 55 years before his death. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Kay Johnson of North Shelby County; a sister, Lucille Watson of Birmingham; Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Johnson and family, of Birmingham, Mr. and Mrs. Al Haigler and family of Orlando, Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Marsh and family of Hancock, New York, many nieces and nephews. Golda Johnson held a B.S. and M.A. Degree from the University of Alabama, taught school at Garden City Junior High in Garden City, Alabama, Kate Duncan Smith, D.A.R. school in Grant, Alabama, Verner Elementary School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and she served as a critic teacher and helped in the teacher training program for the University of Alabama. She taught nine years at Mt. Brook Elementary School and from 1967 - 1977 was First Lady of The University of Montevallo. While at Montevallo she did informal counseling for students and her primary project while she was first lady was the Historical restoration of the King House on campus, which was the former home of the plantation owner, built it in 1823. She wrote the book, THE LIVES AND TIMES OF KINGSWOOD IN ALABAMA 1817 - 1890. Mrs. Johnson held professional memberships in the Alabama Education Association; the National Education Association; the Alabama Retired Teachers Association; Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association; A.A.R.P., Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of Key Teachers. Other membership s include: the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge - Birmingham Area Chapter, Awards Chairperson 1993-1994. Silver Chain member of American Mothers Inc., A member of the Alabama Mothers Association. She was the Merit Mother of Alabama 1988, and was inducted into the Alabama Mother Hall of Honor in 1989. She was a member of Vestavia Country Club and The Club in Birmingham. Her civic and community duties included volunteer work at U.A.B. Hospital in Birmingham for 11 years, she was a Board Member of the Auxiliary and Chairperson of the Admitting Hostesses. Her duties included visiting patients at the hospital and nursing homes. She met heart patients at the Birmingham Airport and escorted them to UAB Medical Center. Golda Johnson was a member of the Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook, Alabama and was a proud member of the Fred Kelly Sunday School Class. She was a caring mother, a wonderful wife, the caretaker for a ninety year old sister who lives alone and an intelligent person who truly cared about the needs of others.
