Dismukes, Irene B., of Birmingham, died October 30, 1998. She was a lifelong member of South Avondale Baptist Church, having accepted Christ at the age of twelve. Active in the Music Ministry, Sunday School, and Training Union, she was a genuine Christian influence in the lives of all with whom she came in contact. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, E. B. "Dizzy" Dismukes. She retired from the Inspection Services Department of the City of Birmingham in 1980 after thirty-four years of service. Her service included active membership in various employee groups and served five years as Chairman of the Birmingham Employee Heart Fund. She was active as a charter member of the Darmethis Literary Club organized in 1939. A longtime member of Lin forest Garden Club afforded her the opportunity to participate in God's beautiful world. She is survived by: nephews, Carl and Ron Jones, Bill Eason, Walter and Richard McCullers, Web Dismukes, Jr.; nieces, Susan Forrest, Kathy Durrett, Ann Crawford; numerous great nephews and nieces; and several godchildren all of whom loved and respected her as a mother. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 1, from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Johns Ridout's Southside Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 2, at 11:00 A.M. at South Avondale Baptist Church with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. Rev. A. Ray Foreman officiating. Faulkner, Mrs. Clara P., age 96, of Birmingham, passed away October 29, 1998. She was born in Elora, TN and moved to Birmingham in 1925. She was a member of Westside Missionary Alliance Church. Gibbs, Elsa June, beloved daughter of Charles and Lisa Gibbs of Hoover, died at a local hospital Thursday, October 29, 1998, in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where she was born and fought valiantly for her life for 12 precious days. She is survived by her brother, Elliot, age 3; her paternal grandmother, June Gibbs of Mountain Brook; and maternal grandparents, Ann and Richard Morrison of Huntsville and Michael Elling of Sharon, Tennessee. Nesmith, Ray Porter, age 76 years, passed away in Ft. Worth, Texas, Thursday, October 29, 1998. A native of Birmingham, he had lived in Riverside, California and Ft. Worth for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Tanner Nesmith; two brothers, James A. and Charles W. Nesmith of California. He is survived by a daughter; two sons; and three grandchild ren of Texas; sister, Sue N. Moon of Guntersville; brothers, Woodie R. Nesmith of Auburn, Ala., William D. Nesmith and Robert J. Watkins, Alma F., Jr. A memorial service will be held for Alma F. (Al) Watkins, Jr. at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 7th, at Christ's Church, Easton, Connecticut. Mr. Watkins, age 81, died Friday, October 23rd, in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he resided for the past 13 years. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, he attended Birmingham Southern University and MIT before relocating to Connecticut. He lived for many years in Darien, New Canaan and Westport. He worked in advertising for more than 30 years, for such publications as Ladies Home Journal and Good Housekeeping, and retired in 1985 as vice president, advertising sales, for Metro Sunday Newspapers in New York. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a Captain. An accomplished singer, he was a member of an award-winning barbers hop quartet, the "Eighteen Ninety Four." He was long-active in the Fairfield County Chorale, and sang in St. Mark's Choir in New Canaan for more than 20 years. He is survived by four children, a daughter, Judith of New York City; three sons, Stephen of Tiller, Oregon; Curtis of Carmel, New York; and Mark of Easton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and a sister, Edith Edmondson of Albany, Georgia.
