Ernest Buckner Jr.
STEVENSON, Ala. - Ernest "Mose' Buckner Jr. died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 59.
He was the son of the late Ernest and Icie Robinson Buckner.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Bernice Buckner; three dauhgters, Betty Wordlaw and Stephanie Lankford, Stevenson, and Belinda Jackson, South Pittsburg, Tenn.; son, Hershel Buckner, Stevenson; and six grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. CST at Rogers Funeral Home, South Pittsburg, with the Rev. William Lankford officiating.
Burial will be in Stevenson Community Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
J.V. Buckner
FLAT ROCK, Ala. - J.V. Buckner died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was 73.
Mr. Buckner was a World War II veteran and a retired postal worker.
He was a deacon at Bethlehem Baptist Church and a member of Gideons International.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Henegar Buckner; sons, James H. and George S. Buckner, both of Flat Rock; daughters, Pat Stewart Boyd and Karen J. Jones, both of Stevenson; sister, Edith Buckner, Flat Rock; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. CST at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Flat Rock with the Rev. Robert Elliott and the Rev. Charles Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Bethlehem (Overlook) Cemetery, Flat Rock.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 9 p.m. CST at Kerby Funeral Home, Henagar.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International and the American Heart Association.
Willadean Bain
PISGAH, Ala. - Mrs. Willadean Laney Bain of the Rosalie community near Pisgah died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, in Scottsboro, Ala. She was 54.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben W. and Willia Laney; and a brother, Lamar Laney.
Survivors include her husband, James A. Bain, Rosalie, Ala.; son, James Paul Bain, Rosalie; three daughters, Lorey Tigue, Dutton, Ala., Linda Allen, Lyerly, Ga., Maranda Wooden, Henagar, Ala.; three brothers, Mark Levell Laney, Bryant, Ala., Lavern Laney, Trenton, Ga., and Braxton Laney, Flat Rock, Ala.; five sisters, Mildred Barnes and Inez Conners, Lake Wales, Fla., Willie Mae Malone, Bryant, and Maureen Whitzell and Judy Smith, both of Trenton.
Services will be held Wednesday at noon CST at Kerby Funeral Home, Henagar, with the Revs. Bud Durham and Bill Bass officiating.
Burial will follow in Macklin Cemetery, Rosalie.
The family will receive friends today until 9 p.m. CST at the funeral home.
Rosie Christine Helton, 105
BRIDGEPORT, Ala. - Rosie Christine Helton, a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, in North Jackson Hospital. She was 105.
Mrs. Helton was a member of Bridgeport Chapter 181 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Helton; two sons, Ross and J.C. Helton; stepson, Ernest Helton; and two stepdaughters, Meredith Morton and Frances Smith.
Survivors include three daughters, Estelle Lawson, Lucille Mason and Edna Lovejoy, all of Bridgeport; four sons, John Helton, Bridgeport, Charles Helton, Scottsboro, Ala., Woodrow Helton, Tunnel Hill, Ga., and Howard Helton, Rossville, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 33 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. CDT at Rudder Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Fincher and the Rev. James Helton officiating.
Burial will be in New Hope (Tenn.) Cemetery.
Dr. E.A. Browder
STEVENSON, Ala. - E.A. Browder, M.D., who practiced medicine in the tri-state area from May 1937 until his retirement in 1974, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at North Jackson Hospital. He was 86.
Dr. Browder graduated from Bradley County High School in Cleveland and attended medical school at the University of Tennessee. He served his internship at Baroness Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga in 1936-1937.
He delivered about 5,000 babies.
Dr. Browder attended First Baptist Church in Stevenson. He was a member of Jackson County Medical Society, the Alabama Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association and the American Medical Association. He also was a member of the Civic Club and the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce.
He was appointed to the Jackson County Hospital Board when it was formed in 1951. He served as chairman for a total of five years, at which time the board was instrumental in building Jackson County Hospital and North Jackson Hospital.
Dr. Browder had won a number of service awards, and in 1980 the Browder Medical Center was opened and dedicated to him.
He was preceded in death in 1963 by his first wife, Ruth Clemons Browder.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Thornton; four daughters, Celia, Amelia, Jessica and Judith; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Rudder Funeral Home with Charles Hughes and James Tisdale officiating.
Burial will be in Stevenson City Cemetery.

FORT PAYNE, Ala. - Virginia Bailey died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at her home. She was 47.

Martha Stephens
RAINSVILLE, Ala. - Martha Jane Stephens of Harvey, Ill., formerly of North Alabama, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, at her home. She was 86.
Survivors include six daughters, Hazel Little, Indiana, Stella Watts, Illinois, Betty Watts, Kansas, Louise Brush, Florida, Geneva Treat, Michigan, and Diane Burnett, Illinois; three sons, E.J. and Herbert Stephens, both of Illinois, and Jimmie Stephens, Florida; two sisters, Mary Ruth Faulkner, Alabama, and Mary Newberry, Kansas; six brothers, Howard Sanders, South Carolina, Calvin, Floyd, Jesse and Tom Sanders, all of Alabama, and Lloyd Sanders, Kansas; 32 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held today at 11 a.m. CDT at W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel in Rainsville.
Burial was in High Top cemetery in Jackson County, Ala.

STEVENSON, Ala. - Johnny Franklin Matthews died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at his home.
Services were today at 3 p.m. CDT at Rudder Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Brown and the Rev. Donald Jacobs officiating.
Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Bridgeport, Ala.
