HENAGAR, Ala. - Laura M. Mays died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, in a Nashville hospital. She was 79.
She lived in the Henagar area most of her life and was a member of the Ider Memorial Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, James Steele of Nashville; one daughter, Sarah Cook of Placida, Fla.; one brother, Melvin Garrett of Holly Pond, Ala.; three stepdaughters, Rosemary Struck of Virginia, Donna Simmons of Columbus, Ga., and Judith Robertson of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two stepsons, E.O. May Jr. of Ringgold, Ga., and Edward Mays of Chattanooga; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 12 p.m. at the Dodds Avenue Chapel of the Turner Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Don Barnette and the Rev. Jackie Brown officiating.
Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
W.O. Mattox
RAINSVILLE, Ala. - W.O. "Curley' Mattox died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 75.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Mattox, Rainsville; two sons, Billy Mattox, Pisgah, Ala., Junior Mattox, Pleasant Hill, Ala.; one daughter, Janice Turner, Scottsboro, Ala.; three brothers, Horace Mattox, David Mattox, both of Ashland, Lloyd Mattox, Creastview, Fla; two sisters, Inez Tumlin, Ashland, Faye Brown, Clanton, Ala.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be today at 1 p.m. in the Rainsville Funeral Home with the Rev. J.H. Upton and the Rev. Phillip Battles officiating.
Burial will follow in Pisgah Cemetery.

FYFFE, Ala. - Leon Knight died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at a Crossville health care facility.

FORT PAYNE, Ala. - Mrs. Helen Dobbs Noles died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at a local hospital. She was 74.
Graveside services will be today at 1 p.m. at Glenwood cemetery with the Revs. Bonnie Romans and James Russell officiating.

BRYANT, Ala. - Sarah Ann Muncey of Bryant died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Muncey; one daughter, Evelyn Moore, Greenville, Tenn.; two sons, Bee Muncey, Chattanooga, Oliver Muncey, Pikeville, Ky.; two sisters, Jean Stinett, Michigan, Minnie Page, Jenkins, Ky.; and two brothers, Bill Craft and Milford Craft, both of Kentucky.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. EST at the Sand Mountain Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Hooper officiating.
Burial will be in Bryant Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 8 p.m.
Robert Hurtt
FORT PAYNE, Ala. - Robert L. Hurtt Sr. died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at the residence. He was 94.
He was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church Adamsburg. He was the son of Albert and Zodie Bray Hurtt.
Survivors include two daughters, Annie Whaley, Fort Payne, Betty Teague, Norcross, Ga.; three sons, Raymond, Jerome and Don Hurtt, all of Fort Payne; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were today at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Eberhart officiating.
Burial was in Adamsburg Cemetery.
Anthony Kirby
HENAGAR, Ala. - Infant Anthony Drake Kirby of Pisgah, Ala., died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, in a Birmingham, Ala., hospital.
Survivors include his mother and father, Tony and Kenda Kirby, Pisgah; one sister, Marina Kirby, Pisgah; grandparents, Billy and Ruth Kirby, Pisgah, Robert and Sharon Parrish, Bryant, Ala.; and a great-grandmother, Hula Starkey, Pisgah.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. CST in the Kerby Funeral Home with the Rev. Rodney Hammonds officiating.
Burial will be in New Home cemetery in Rosalie, Ala.
John Haggard
HIGDON, Ala. - John Kenneth Haggard died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, in a Fort Payne, Ala., hospital. He was 83.
A retired farmer in Dekalb County, he was a member of the Life and Praise Church in Higdon, and the North Sand Mountain Masonic Lodge 920 F&AM.;
He was the father of the late Donald Haggard.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Haggard; one son, Garland Haggard, Higdon; six daughters, Martha Grimes, Higdon, Becky Phillips, Higdon, Mary Smith, Higdon, Julie West, Higdon, Kathy Pickens, Higdon, Betty Ballard, Atlanta, Ga.; 34 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, Trenton, Ga., with the Rev. Virgil Stone and the Rev. Kenneth Bales officiating.
Burial will follow in Payne-Gap Cemetery.
Visitation will be today after 1 p.m. in the funeral home.

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. - Norma Helms of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Jackson County, Ala., died there Saturday, Jan, 24, 1998. She was 78.
Survivors include her husband, Oscar Helms; and a brother, Wilford Shelton, Woodville, Ala.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. CST at Scottsboro Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Pine Haven Memorial Gardens.

RAINSVILLE, Ala. - Orbra Duke of Fyffe, Ala., died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at the residence. He was 85.

FYFFE, Ala. - Kaelin Renee Brooke Dyal, infant daughter of Adam and Nancy Dyal died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, in an area hospital.

John Estes
FORT PAYNE, Ala. - John C. Estes died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at a local hospital. He was 72.
He was born in Cherokee County, Ala., son of the late John Estes Sr. and Ada Arthur Estes Houston.
Mr. Estes was a Firestone tire dealer in Fort Payne for 35 years and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Hoyt Houston.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Jocobs Estes; a daughter, Donna Wilson, Fort Payne; a son, John P. Estes, Jasper, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Mays and other ministers officiating.
Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
