James Weaver
RAINSVILLE, Ala. - James David Weaver of New Harmony, formerly of Painter, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at his home. He was 47.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Fay Tidwell Weaver; daughter, Tammy Fay Womack; son, David A. Weaver, both of New Harmony; six sisters, Reba P. Weaver, Leona Phillips, Hazel A. Hancock, Classa Thacker and Linda Jones, all of Painter, and Loretta Williams, Boaz; two brothers, Ronald Weaver, Geraldine, and Timmy Weaver, Painter; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at New Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Grady Sharp and the Rev. Ray Hancock officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mary Westmoreland
STEVENSON, Ala. - Mary Ann Camp Westmoreland of Columbus, Miss., died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at her home. She was 33.
A former resident of Bridgeport, Ala., she was a 1983 graduate of Bridgeport High School and a member of the National and Mississippi Republican Party and Harmony Grove Baptist Church in Bridgeport.
Survivors include her husband, Jeff Westmoreland; parents, Richard and Rosemary Camp; two sisters, Lisa Rorex, South Pittsburg, Tenn., and Amy Palmer, Cape Charles, Va.;
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. CST at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Mary Whaley
FORT PAYNE, Ala. - Mary Allielou Whaley of Enterprise, Ala., died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, in a hospital there. She was 70.
She was an employee of a hosiery mill and was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth Whaley, Fort Payne; daughter, Lila Drennen, Enterprise; two brothers, Lawson Guffey, Fort Payne, Billy Guffey, Valley Head, Ala.; four sissters, Opal Traylor, Arkansas, Edna Spears, Valley Head, Willodean Beason, Fort Payne, Sandra Owen, Gaylesville, Ala.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. CST today at Burt Funeral Home, Fort Payne, with the Rev. Jimmy Graves officiating.
Burial will be in Town Creek Cemetery.
Doris Strickland
FLAT ROCK, Ala. - Doris Rebecca Strickland died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, in Chattanooga. She was 76.
She was retired as owner of Strickland Building Supply in Flat Rock, which she and her late husband, James L. "Buck' Strickland, co-owned.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan S. Smith, and daughter, Susan S. Wright, both of Flat Rock; sisters, Irene Culpepper, Pisgah, Ala., Gertrude Green and Mamie Ray, both of Rome, Ga., and Jimmie Drake, Henagar, Ala.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. CST at Ider Church of Christ with minister Norman Flynn officiating.
Burial will be at Pleasant View cemetery in Dutton, Ala.
The family will receive friends today from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. CST at Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar.
Sammie Stewart
BRIDGEPORT, Ala. - Sammie Stewart of Brideport died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, in a hospital there. She was 87.
Services will be at 2 p.m. CST today at Rudder Funeral Home, Stevenson, Ala., with the Rev. George Maynor officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
James Smith
BRYANT, Ala. - James T. Smith died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, in an area hospital. He was 88.
He was a member and deacon of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church for over 55 years.
Survivors include his wife, Glennie Beatrice Smith; three sons, Conley J. Smith, Bryant, Freeman R. Smith, Elder Mountain, and Melvin O. Smith, Harrison; two sisters, Sally Cagle, Bryant, and Dorothy Reeves, Trenton, Ga.; two brothers, Alton and Clinton Smith, both of Bryant; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. EST at Ryan Funeral Home in Trenton, with the Rev. Ernest Sutton and the Rev. Fred Porter officiating.
Burial will be in the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends today after 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Esther Payne
IDER, Ala. - Esther J. Payne of Titusville, Fla., and formerly of Ider, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, in Florida. She was 85.
She was a member of the Ider Missionary Baptist Church and was the widow of Harold Leighton Payne.
Survivors include a son, Royce L. Payne of Longmont, Colo.; a daughter, Billie R. Youmans of Titusville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. CST at the Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar, Ala., with the Rev. Chris Guinn officiating.
Burial will be in the Fuller Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. CST at the funeral home.
Dr. J.M. Brewer
FORT PAYNE, Ala. - Dr. J.M. Brewer, who practiced dentistry in Fort Payne for 52 years, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, in a Birmingham hospital. He was 83.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Fort Payne with the Rev. Dennis Mays and the Rev. Fred Higgins officiating.
Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

Survivors include his father, Dewey Hicks, Rainsville; and brother, Bill Hicks, Rainsville.
