Funeral services for Margaret L. Smith, 83 and a resident of Clanton, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001 at Maplesville Holiness Church with Rev. Duke Fulgum and Rev. Bobby Hicks officiating. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Baptist cemetery in Stanton. Born on Sept. 14, 1918 in Perry Co. Ala., she was the daughter of the late Walter Latham and the late Susie C. Latham. A homemaker, she died on Sept. 23, 2001 at Chilton Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Raymond Smith. She is survived by four sons, Buddy Smith of Maplesville, Raymond Smith, Jr. of Clanton, Wayne Smith of Ashlin, Ala., and Randy Smith of Thorsby; five daughters, Louise Harrison of Clanton, Margaret Jeanette Roberts of Clanton, Diann Carter of Maplesville, Patsy Pickle of Maplesville and Debra Hicks of Demopolis; three sisters, Ruth McMinn of Sardis, Ella Mae Cook of Selma, and Annie Bell Atchison of Talladega; a brother T. J. Latham of Selma; 31 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Burial is in Ebenezer Baptist cemetery in Stanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Latham was born May 13, 1910 in Alabama to the late George and Ellie Latham. He worked as a foreman. He died April 1, 1998, at Druid City Hospital/Northport. He is survived by two daughters: Audrey Ann Nix of Tuscaloosa and Robbie Nell Latham of Maplesville; a son-in-law, Tommy Nix of Tuscaloosa; a brother, George W. Latham of Eutaw; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Hicks Latham. Pallbearers will be Robert and George Latham, Hugh, Lenard and Jimmy Stewart, and Don and Joe Abbott.

Mrs. Latham was born on Oct. 20, 1903, in Perry County of the late Harrison Taylor Terry and the late Nora Chadwick Terry. She died on Sept 2, 1998, at her home in Thorsby. She is survived by two daughter: Nell Cummings and Mabel Cummings, both of Thorsby; two sisters: Odis Legron of Maplesville and Eva Lou Crocker of Calera; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Charlie Latham.

She was a lunchroom worker. A widow, she died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1995, at Bibb Medical Center in Centreville. She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Smith, and son-in-law, Sith, of Clanton; her daughter, Joyce Barrett, and son-in-law, Donald Barrett of Selma; her son, Bobby McAfee, and daughter-in-law, Faye McAfee, of Centreville; her son, John McAfee, and daughter-in-law, Carol McAfee, of Prattville; her son-in-law, Coleman Smith of Plantersville; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three of several foster children who lived with Mrs. McAfee; Freddy Smith, Jeannie Gamblin and Tammy Dingler.
