Services for Willard B. Hicks, 86, of Maplesville, are today at Maplesville Baptist Church at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ty Parten officiating. Burial will follow in the Plantersville Christian Cemetery. Friends will be received before the service from 12:30- 1 p.m. Hicks died Wednesday November 3 in Maplesville. He served 26 years as President of Central Alabama Electric Coop. He retired from Alabama Department of Transportation after 23 years of service. Survivors include his son, Joe Hicks of Maplesville.

Higgins, Ethel Ruth
January 18, 1931 - February 11, 2000
Funeral services for Ms. Ethel Ruth Higgins, 69, Calera, were held Sunday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Horton officiating. Interment followed at Shiloh Baptist Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. She was born in Chilton County to the late Nolan and Ethey Wyatt Wright on Jan. 18, 1931. She died at her home in Calera on February 11. She is survived by two sons, Ricky Gulledge of Prattville and Bruce Higgins of Calera, one daughter, Wanda Kay Smith, of Dogwood, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Hill, Robert William

Robert William Hill Services for Robert Hill, 89, of Clanton will be held today, April 22, at Martin Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial cemetery with Reverend Joey Hill officiating. Mr. Hill, an inspector, died at Chilton Medical Center April 20. Survivors include his daughters, Linda Tyler of Trussville and Peggy Davis of Clanton; son, Donnie Hill of Trussville; brother, John Hill of Gadsden; sister, Frances Odonell of Houston; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Hilyer, Charlie Eason

Services for Charlie Easton Hilyer, 79, of Jemison, are today at 2 p.m. at Pleasant HIll Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Tew and Rev. Sheril Hilyer officiating. Mr. Hilyer died at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster on July 16. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Jemison, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Hilyer, a former building contractor, was a member and former deacon at First Baptist Church of Pelham. Survivors include; his wife, Joyce Hilyer of Jemison; four sons, Rev. Hilyer and Charles Hilyer, both of Alabaster, Eason HIlyer of Maplesville and Steve Hilyer of Thorsby; two daughters, Teany Beaulieu and Joyce Hardy, both of Alabaster; a step-son, Tom Huett of Thorsby; a step-daughter, Janette Bailey of Jemison; two brothers, Odean Hilyer of Prattville and Horace Hilyer of Opelika; a sister, Laura Brown of Montgomery; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Euell S. Hilyer, 81, of Clanton, died Saturday, February 19 at his residence. Surviving are his wife, Susan Hilyer of Clanton; two sons, Steve Hilyer of Clanton and Marty Cross of Sugar Hill, Georgia; two granddaughters, Brittany Adam of Clanton and Olivia Cross of Sugar Hill; and grandson, Jackson Cross of Sugar Hill. He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen E. Hilyer; mother, Annie Mae Davis; sister, Ruby Davis Gore and brother, Madison Hilyer. Services were held graveside at Collins Chapel Cemetery, Monday, February 21 mat 11 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Earl Hilyer officiating.

Funeral services for Gena Hilyer, 91, Clanton, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Jack Drinkwater officiating. Burial will follow at Chestnut Creek Baptist in Verbena, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Hilyer was born on May 19, 1910, in Coosa County, the daughter of the late W. T. Hilyer and the late Mary Ann Hilyer. She was a homemaker. She died on June 24, 2001, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. Survivors include two sisters, Mae H. Smith, Birmingham, and Mozelle H. Miller, Clanton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Voncile J. Hilyer, 79, Clanton, were held at Collins Chapel Baptist cemetery in Jemison on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, with Rev. Randy Gothard and Rev. Gary Voyles officiating. and Martin Funeral Home directing. Hilyer was born on March 4, 1920, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Ruben Jefferson and Ludena Jackson. She was a restaurant owner. She died on Jan. 13, 2000, at Hatley Health Care in Clanton. Survivors include three sons, Earl Hilyer, Northport, and Ralph Hilyer and Frankie Hilyer, both of Jemison; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Christy Ann Barrett Hodge, 29, will be held Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 at 4 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Bennettsville, S.C. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Ave., N. Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29577.Mrs. Hodge died Wednesday. Born in Marlboro County, S.C., she was a daughter of Garland Sether Barrett and Betty Joyce Miller Barrett. She was a shipping clerk with Stanley Tools and attended the Cheraw Church of God. Survivors include, her husband, Jay Allen Hodge; daughters, Brittany Nicole Hayes and Heather Ann Hodge; mother Betty Joyce Miller Barrett of Bennettsville; father Garland Sether Barrett and step-mother Joyce Marie Barrett of Prattville; brother Kenneth Sether Barrett, Sr. of Prattville; sisters Debbie Barrett Freeman of Maplesville and LeCretia Rose Barrett Rogers of Katy, Texas; step-sisters Judy Carol Walker Absher, Barbara Jean Walker and Crystal Marie Walker of Prattville; 13 nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles.

Burial followed at University Highway Church of God. Born on July 6, 1933 to Eborn Oliver Barrett and Effie Drucilla Barrett, she died July 11, 2003 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. Survivors include her husband Morris Horton of Clanton; daughters Linda Keener Wingo of Maplesville, Erline Keener Miller of Chelsea, Shirley Keener Rigsby of Maplesville, Rita Keener McClure of Clanton and Opal Keener Scott of Maplesville; brother Raymond Barrett of Prattville; sisters Romania Davis of Clanton, Ruth Morgan of Selma and Louella Clements of Selma; step-sons Morris Horton, Jr. of Alabaster and Jack Horton of Hanceville; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.

Horton, Vera Mae

Mother of six Vera Mae Horton, 85, of Hoover, formerly of Calera, died Jan. 24, 2004, in Hoover. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Joe Horton, and her son, Charles Wayne Horton. She is survived by two daughters, Vera June Blackerby of Pelham and Jimmie Ruth Headley of Missouri; four sons, Morris Elred Horton of Clanton, Elton Lee Horton of Jemison, Harry Dean Horton of Hoover and Robert Larry Horton of Pelham; one brother, Lynn Garrett of Calera; 19 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Service was Jan. 28 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, Greg Headley and Bruce Headley presiding. Burial followed in Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

Hosey, James Howard

Funeral services for James Howard Hosey, 73, of Auburn were Nov. 5, 1998, at Jeffcoat Chapel with Dr. George Mathison officiating. Burial was in Memorial PK Cemetery, with Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing. Mr. Hosey was born Dec. 31, 1924 in Clanton. He taught ROTC at Auburn High School for 20 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He died Nov. 2, 1998, at East Alabama Medical Center. He is survived by three daughters: Carol Ho. Spencer and Jan Z. Hosey, both of Huntsville, and Joy Hosey of Dallas Tex.; two sons Mike Hosey and David Hosey, both of Auburn; a sister, Mary Drake of Atlanta; a brother, Mark Hosey of Montgomery; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myradine Hosey.

Hosey was born on March 22, 1943, in Chilton County, the son of Iris Littleton and the late John Earl Hosey. He was a carpenter. He died on Feb. 28, 2001, at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. Survivors include his wife, Claudia Hosey, Clanton; two daughters, Debra McLaughin, Centre, and Melanie Thomas, Bessemer; his mother, Iris Littleton; one sister, Diane Castleberry, Clanton; one brother, Douglas Hosey, Clanton; four grandchidlren; and three great-grandchildren.

Burial followed at Plantersville Christian Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Houston was born on Sept 9, 1942, in Biloxi, Miss., the son of the late Henry Oscar and Sallie Mae Houston. He was an engineer. He died on Nov. 19, 1999 at Cooper Green Hospital in Birmingham. Survivors include two sons, Greg Houston, Norcross, Ga. and Hank Houston, Clanton; his former wife, Martha Adams Houston, Clanton; and one sister, Sara Maroney, Smyrna, Tenn.

Survivors include his wife, Estelle Houston of Stanton; his brothers, Hermon Houston of Selma and Eulin Houston of Plantersville; and his sister, Hazel Atchison of Selma.

Friends were received at Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Houston died Saturday, November 13 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Jean A. Houston of Thorsby; two daughters, Judy Cruz of Thorsby and Anne Register of Dothan; sister, Lavada Wilson of Selma; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Howard, Allen Roger

Graveside services for Alan Roger Howard, 60, of Helena were July 20, 1998, at Thorsby City cemetery with Rev. Dave Lorenzy and Rev. Harry Gulledge officiating. Charter Funeral Home of Alabaster directed. Mr. Howard, a native of Thorsby, graduated from Jemison High School and Auburn University and served in the U. S. Coast Guard. He died July 17, 1998, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Kaye Lacey Howard; four sons and daughter-in-laws: Roger and Tina Howard, David and Pam Howard, Brian Howard and Shawn and Jennifer Howard, all of Helena; his parents, Floyd? and Pauline Howard of Thorsby; a sister, Carol H. Armstrong of Helena; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services for Lloyd S. Howard, 86, of Thorsby were Dec. 23, 1998, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harry Gulledge officiating. Burial was in Thorsby Memorial cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Howard was born Nov. 29, 1912, in Alabama to the late Sweeny and Inga Howard. He was a 1929 graduate of Thorsby Institute and was owner and operator of Wayside Nursery and Greenhouse. He was the last survivor of a second generation of Scandinavian settlers and attended the Brotherhood Sunday School class at Thorsby First Baptist Church. He died Dec. 21, 1998, at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Howard of Thorsby; a daughter Carol H. Armstrong of Helena; a daughter-in-law, Kaye Howard of Helena; a sister, Ella Carter of Mooresville, N.C.; a brother-in-law, Owen Carter of Mooresville, N. C.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Alan Howard.

Hubbard, William D., Rev. Dr.
September 25, 1863 - August 11, 1932
Dr. William David Hubbard died Aug. 11, burial Lafayette. He was a Native of Clanton. He had held many Pastorates and was also employed by the Baptist State Mission Board.

Huckabee, Joseph William, Sr.
October 24, 1886 - August 08, 1917
A Good man departed this life when on Tuesday night last at his home in Clanton Mr. Joseph W. Huckabee passed away, following a short illness form typhoid-pneumonia. The deceased was 31 years of age and is survived by his wife and three small children. His parents also survive him. The deceased was a member of the the Baptist church, the Woodmen of the World and the Modern Woodmen, in which fraternities he always took an active interest. He leaves many friends and relatives who will be deeply grieved to learn of his taking away. The remains were laid to rest in Maple Springs cemetery on Wednesday afternoon. A sad feature in connection with this death is that the wife lies critically ill with fever, being stricken on the same day as the husband. To the bereaved ones the Press extends deepest sympathy.
