Louis Arnold "Plowboy" Chandler, Jr., 76, of Bessemer, died March 22. He was a member of Vineland Park Baptist Church, Hueytown. He worked for 45 1/2 years at U. S. Steel and was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Elfriede Chandler; daughter, Cariss "Christy" Chandler Dooley; grandson, Christopher L. Mitchell Dooley; sister, Hazel Rasberry; brother- in-law, Jimmy Rasberry; sister-in-law, Reba Cox Chandler; three nephews, one niece, several great nieces and great nephews. Services were held March 24 at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Gunn officiating. Burial followed in the Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery, Plantersville.

Funeral services for Marvin I. Chandler, 87, of Selma were Feb. 2, 1998 at the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Neal Caver officiating. Burial was in Pineview Memory Gardens cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Mr. Chandler died Jan. 31, 1998, at a local hospital in Selma. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Irene Chandler of Selma; four daughters and sons-in-law: Geraldine and Lamar Bice of Marietta, Ga., Shelby and Radford Talley of Villa Rica, Ga., Ozelle Miller of Montgomery and Linda and Jim Rush of Montgomery; six grandchildren: Brenda Gwin of Chattanooga, Tenn., Gina Hawkins of Loganville, Ga., Gregory Bice of Marietta, Ga., Jennifer Gastley of Atlanta, Lisa Stephenson of Brazelton, Ga., and Frederika Miller of Gulf Shores; three sisters and nine grandchildren.

Chandler, Velma Annie
December 14, 1920 - June 24, 1997
Funeral services for Velma Annie Chandler, 76, of Selma, will be on Friday, June 27, 1997 at the Lawrence Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. with Dr. Jerry Henry officiating. Burial will be at the Pineview Memory Gardens with the Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Chandler died at her residence in Selma on June 24, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence M. Chandler, and six brothers, Willie J. Harrison, Clarence Harrison, Dewey F. Harrison, Aubrey L. Harrison, Clem C. Harrison and Lewis Junior Harrison. She is survived by two daughters, Annie Pearl Hall, Selma; Mary Middlebrooks, Autaugaville; two sons, William T. Chandler, Autaugaville; Lawrence M. Chandler, Prattville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister Florence Cranmore, Selma, and one brother, Jimmy T. Harrison, Maplesville. Active pallbearers: Jesse Harrison, Bobby Harrison, Jimmy Harrison, Jr., Bartley Giles, Raymond Harrison and David Harrison. Honorary pallbearers: Dr. Michael Soppett, Dr. Jerry Dillard, and the nurses of Cahaba Hospice.

Chastaine, Florence C.
1907 - April 20, 2005
Services for Florence C. Chastaine, 98, of Birmingham, will be held today at Martin Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. with Dr. Buddy Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received before the service from 12- 1 p.m. Chastaine died Wednesday, April 20 in Jefferson County. Survivors include her son, Robert R. Chastaine of Birmingham; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Delene Childress, 85, of Phenix City, will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Mars Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. William Short officiating. Burial will follow at Mars Hill cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Childress was born in Chilton County on July 30, 1914, to the late Thomas and China Viola Gothard Cofer. She died on February 1, at her residence at Phenix City Health Care. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Burnice Childress. She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Wilson of Smiths; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Euell "Tom" Childress, 91, Calera, will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Randall Mims officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove No. 1 cemetery in Jemison, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Childress was born on Feb. 22, 1908, in Chilton County, the son of the late Clarence and Alice Childress. He was a machine operator. He died at his residence on March 28, 1999. Among the survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Dot Porter and Mrs. Faye McClusky, both of Jemison; a son, David Childress, Jemison; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Thorsby resident Kristi Carol Childress, 39, of Thorsby died Monday, March 7, 2005, in Chilton Medical Center. She was born Saturday, April 3, 1965, in Chilton County to Benny Charles Childress and Dianne Martin Childress. She is survived by her mother and father; two brothers, Alan Childress of Clanton and Kyle Childress of San Francisco, Calif.; two grandmothers, Jean N. Martin of Jemison and Lena Childress of Thorsby; her nephew, Austin Childress of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two nieces, Katelyn Childress of Clanton and Isabella Childress of Clanton. Service was at Oak Grove Baptist Church on March 10, the Revs. Keith Edwards, Morris and Terry Avery presiding. Burial followed in Oak Grove Baptist cemetery in Jemison, Martin Funeral Home directing. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Widow Fund, 211 Highway 155 in Jemison.

Funeral services for Robert E. Lee Childress, 85 of Thorsby, will be held Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist No 1 with Rev. William Short and Rev. Alvin Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Baptist No. 1 cemetery in Thorsby. Born on Nov. 28, 1917 to Millard Filmore Childress and Emily Childress, he died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Childress of Thorsby; daughter Sue Dutton of Randolph; sons Lymons Lee Childress of Clanton and William Childress of Thorsby; step-daughters Angela, Rhonda, Karen and Tammy; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. His first wife Evie Childress, a son, Ted, and a granddaughter Trinity Childress, preceded him in death.

Mrs. Beulah Velma Clackler, 80, of Clanton died December 27. She was born March 9, 1901 in Chilton County. Survivors include one son, Carlton Clackler; two daughter-in-laws, Verdie Clackler and Myrtle Clackler; one brother, Joe Brown; three sisters, Evelyn DeVaughn, Bessie Mae Cleckler, Beatrice Jaczinski; one step-sister, Ms. Lee Ray; all of Clanton; 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held December 28, 2:00 p.m. at Zion Ridge Church of God with interment in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Rev. Carl Johnson, Rev. Sulivan and Rev. Kenneth McDonald officiated. Mercer Funeral Home directed.

Alpin. Interment in the church cemetery. He is survived by 3 sons -- Hopkins, Clydie and Reedie Clackler, All of Clanton; 3 daughters -- Mrs Walter Collins, Mrs. L. W. Mims, both of Clanton; Mrs. Archie Short, Birmingham; 3 brothers -- Joe, Elijah, and Henry Clackler, all of Clanton. There are 15 grand children and 1 great grand child. Pallbearers were: F. M. Johnson, J. C., C. W., Edwin, H. R., and A. L. Clackler. Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Clanton on Saturday, April 14, 2001, from noon until 1 p.m. Clark was born in Alabama, the daughter of the late James Jackson Hayes and Carrie Lee Hayes. She was a homemaker. She died at her residence on April 11, 2001. Survivors include four daughters, Dian Eaton, Valley Village, Calif., Carol Pitsenberger, Sevierville, Tenn., and Pamela C. Geiger and Sharon Clark, both of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Mary Goldsberry, Sylmar, Calif.; four grandchildren, Kimberly Guth, Burbank, Calif., Jennifer Davis, Portland, Texas, W. Austin Seay, Knoxville, Tenn., and Donovan Geiger, San Diego, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Guth and Kyra Guth, both of Burbank, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton L. Clark.

Hilyer of Clanton and Bill Hilyer of Coosa Co.

Survivors include six sons, Robert Daniel Johnson and Ralph Edwards, both of Clanton, John Wayne Cleckler and Douglas Cleckler, both of Thorsby, Jimmy Wayne Cleckler, Maplesville, and Randall Cleckler, Jemison; three daughters, Betty Sue Owens, Lillian Faye Edwards, and Alice Faye Smitherman, all of Clanton; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Cleckler, Clanton; two sons, Timothy Dale Cleckler and Sanford Oneal Cleckler, both of Clanton; one Daughter, Hazel Cleckley; four sisters, Alice Maners, Faye Jacks, Lollie Kelley and Emma Staggs, all of Clanton; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Cleckler.
