Burial will follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery in Stanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Burnett was born in Alabama on Oct. 31, 1931, the daughter of the late Issac A. and Carrie Dennis. She was a secretary. She died on May 31, 1999, at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. Survivors include her husband, D. O. "Bud" Burnett, Jr. Maplesville; one daughter, Becky Burnett, Maplesville; two sons, Dennis Burnett, Maplesville, Mike Burnett, Plantersville; five sisters, Laura Ann Murphree, Hoover, Mattie Green, Selma, Elizabeth McCurdy, Montgomery, Dorothy Hubbard, Talladega, and Jeanette Giles, Cropwell; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, Montevallo.

Funeral services for Eva M. Burnett, 80 of Selma, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 with Rev. William Earl Short and Paul Atchison officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Rest Baptist cemetery in Maplesville. Born on July 1, 1922 to Marion Chandler and Mamie Chandler, she died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003 at Vaughn Region Medical Center/ Parkway in Selma. Survivors include her sons Larry Joe (Faye) Anderson of Plantersville, and Billy (Cindy) Burnett of Selma, Brothers Burt Chandler of Maplesville and Barney Chandler of Maplesville; sisters Nettie B. Broadhead of Clanton and Eula Hayes of Clanton; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Her husband Bill Burnett, sons William Earl Anderson and Douglas McArthur Anderson, daughter Virginia Payne, and sisters Lucille Weathers and Maggie Anderson preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Susie Anniece Burnette, 89, Opelika, will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Rick Glenn and Rev. Richard Harrison officiating. Burial followed at Ebenezer Baptist cemetery in Stanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church at Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Burnette was born on Nov. 13, 1910, in Alabama, the daughter of the late Emmett and Velma Huff. She was a homemaker. She died on Sept. 11, 2000, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Frances Shirley, Opelika; one son, Kenneth Burnette, Ozard; three brothers, Ira Huff, Montgomery, Obrie Huff, Stanton, Willard Huff, Selma; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Burnette, Malcolm 'Pete'
March 1, 1925 - July 2, 2003
Services for Malcolm "Pete" Burnette, 78 of Chattanooga, Tenn., were held Saturday, July 5, at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel in Chattanooga. The Rev. Billy Dean officiated the service. Burial took place at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South. Burnette, the son the late Sam Dudley and Mettie Octavia Burnette, retired from Roadway Express and was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his brothers Wordner, Allie and Dudley Burnette, Jr., as well as his wife, Nola Burnette. He is survived by his sister, Farris Lee Blackmon of Jemison and his daughter, Phyllis (Bob) Lackey of Harrison, Tenn. He is also survived by his sons Kenneth (Vicki) Burnette of Panama City Beach, Fla., Richard (Leslie) Burnette of Royal Oak, Mich., and Debbie Burnette Weaver of Chattanooga, Tenn. He is also survived by five grandchildren - Shane, Justin and Ashley Burnette, Robert Lackey, Jr., and Wendi Williams. He has one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Bush, Pamela Diane

Pamela Diane Bush, 48, of Clanton, died Monday, January 31 at her residence. Survivors include her daughter, Brandy Trammell of Eufaula; son, Jeff Bush of Jemison; two granddaughters, Emily Trammell of Eufaula, and Lauren Bush of Jemison; grandson, Gavin Bush of Jemison; four sisters, Marilyn Popwell of Clanton, Carolyn Popwell, Virginia Littlefield of Clanton and Ann Sharpless of Montgomery; three brothers, Barney Gilliland of Prattville, Don Gilliland of Clanton and Jerry Gilliland. Services will be held today at Walnut Creek United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Tony Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Funeral services for Robbie Jackson Bush, 22, Brierfield, were held at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo on Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, with Steve Johnson and Dale Watts officiating. Burial followed at Montevallo City Cemetery, with Rockco Funeral Home Chapel directing. Bush was a member of Wilton Baptist Church. She died on Aug. 4, 2001, in Montevallo. Survivors include her husband, Ben Bush, Brierfield; two daughters, Amber Jackson and Megan Jackson, both of Brierfield; one son, Nicholas Bush, Brierfield; her mother, Doris Hall, Montevallo; her father, Billy Joe Hall, Jr., Montevallo; and three brothers, Billy Joe Hall III, Patrick Hall, and Michael Hall, all of Montevallo; and one grandmother, Peggy Hall, Montevallo.

Buxton, Claudie Griffin

Services for Claudie Griffin Buxton, 76 of Lafayette, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Jordan officiating. Burial followed at Sardis Baptist Church in Maplesville. Born on July 6, 1927 to J.C. Griffin and Lola Mae Griffin, she died July 16, 2003 at Lafayette Nursing Home. Survivors include her son Kenneth Ray Buxton, Jr. of Middleburg, Fla.; daughters Patricia Ann Rodrigues of St. Petersburg, Fla., Linda B. Hilyer of Cusseta, Lola Anita McBride of Greenwood, Miss., Barbara Kasper of Athens, Ga. and Vanessa Crawford of Athens; brother-in-law Earl Van Buxton of Tallassee; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Buxton was a former resident of Clanton. She was the choir director for West End Baptist Church and Lomax Baptist Church. She was also a former member of Griffin Family Gospel Group of Opelika.

Cain, Vera Atchison
Cain, Vera Atchison, age 80, of Plantersville, born October 25, 1929, died Saturday May 29, 2010 at her home. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Cain, parents Ben and Eunice Atchison, four sisters and four brothers. Survivors include her three sisters, Helen Massey of Grove Hill, AL, Irene Teel of Pueblo, CO and Erma Levins of Plantersville, AL, three brothers, Clifton (Hazel) Atchison of Selma, Jimmy (Shirley) Atchison of Plantersville, AL, David (Dickie) Atchison of Plantersville, AL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday May 30, 2010 at Plantersville Baptist Church with burial following at Plantersville Baptist Cemetery. Reverend Mike Golson officiated, with nephews, Darren Atchison giving the eulogy and Rick Melton singing and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation was from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at the church. Mrs. Cain retired after 36 years from Zeigler Meats. She was a member of Plantersville Baptist Church where she was also a member of Eula Maye Friday’s Sunday school class. She made her favorite caramel cake for the sick of the community and for favorite occasions. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and community. Pallbearers were her nephews, Boris, Jeff and Tony Levins, Jerry and Johnny Atchison, Darren Atchison, Barry Atchison, Will Massey, Mike Walker, John Teel and Bobby McDaniel. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Plantersville Baptist Church or Cahaba Hospice.

Calfee, Erastus Luin 'E.L.'

Funeral services for Erastus Luin "E. L." Calfee, 94 and a resident of Clanton, will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at Mulberry Baptist Church, with Rev. David Bishop officiating. Interment will follow at Mulberry Baptist cemetery in Maplesville. Born on July 15, 1907 in Chilton County, he was the son of the late Luther Luin Calfee and the late Lillian Mae Calfee. A farmer, he died on April 9, 2001 at his residence. he is survived by two daughters, Lillian Louise Williams of Clanton and Betty Evelyn Lowery of Maplesville; two sons, Charles Luin Calfee and Rickie Wade Calfee, both of Maplesville; a brother, Thomas E. Calfee of Goodwater; a sister Edna Pearl Grimes, of Atlanta; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Callaway, John C.
February 04, 1861 - January 10, 1937
John Callaway, age 76, died in Providence Beat !6, Jan. 10, of Heart Dropsey. Burial was at Providence Beat 16. The Song, "A Lone Pilgrim" was at his request sung by Riley Robinson as the body was lowered into the Grave. The aged man had planned his entire funeral service. He is survived by his Widow, Mrs. Lizzie Callaway, three Sons, Frank, Fred and Spurgeon Callaway. Two Daughters Mrs. Filey Funderburk of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Arrie Jones of Clanton, One Brother, Gil Callaway of Montgomery, One Sister, LaFadre Robinson of Verbena. He was born in Coosa County in 1861 and moved to the area of Providence Beat 16 when he was 2 years old. He died on his 55th wedding Anniversary. He married Miss Lizzie Bathes Jan. 10, 1882. He was a Blacksmith by trade and worked in Wetumpka and at Verbena a few years before he returned to Beat 16. He was the Son of Jonathan and Rutha Eiland Callaway.

William J. Callaway, age 82, died at his residence in South Clanton Sunday. Burial was at Chestnut Creek Cemetery. He is survived by his Widow, 5 Sons, W. A. Callaway, Harley Callaway, and George W. Callaway of Coopers, Ralph Callaway of San Antonio, Texas, and John Callaway whose address is unknown. 4 Daughters, Mrs. A. B. Jones of Marbury, Mrs. Frank Ireland of Mountain Creek, Mrs. W. D. McKinney of Buhl, 3 Brothers, Jasper of Deatsville, John of Providence Community, G. G. of Tuscaloosa, on Sister, Mrs. T. L. Robinson of Verbena.

Mr. W. T. Callen died, Wife died just a few days ago. He was President of People's Savings Bank, burial Clanton City Cemetery.
Dated 3-23-1922, Mr. W. T. Callen was sick only 2 days, Sons: F .J. and Ed Callen, Daughter is Mrs. Izora Callen Alred.

Survivors include by his wife, Anita Anderson Calloway of Maplesville; two sons, David Earl Calloway and Jonathan William Calloway, both of Maplesville; three brothers, Billy Wayne Beam, Charles Edward Beam, both of Randolph, and Bill Beam of Oklahoma; three sisters, Brenda Freeman of Lawley, Linda Tillery of Randolph and Glenda Jones of Clanton; one grandmother, Marie Hayes of Maplesville; a grandfather, Sam Hayes of Maplesville; six brothers-in-law, Tootle Freeman of Lawley, Billy Tillery of Randolph, Roland Jones of Clanton, Robert Anderson of Maplesville, Michael Anderson of Thorsby, Jerry Atchison of Plantersville; and three sisters-in-law, Lynn Beam of Randolph, Sharon Beam of Randolph and Angie Anderson of Maplesville.

Mr. N.J. Calloway, age 74, died at his home 1 mile South of Clanton. Burial was at Samaria cemetery conducted by Rev. J.D. Hughes. He was born 10-7-1847, Son of Benjamin Calloway, Grandson of Job Calloway, died 6-28-1921. He became a Christian at age 16. Married Miss Nancy Calfee, daughter of Mr. Evan Calfee of Coosa Co., as a young man, she died in 1890 and he married Miss Alice White in 1890, he was ordained a Deacon at Old Salem on the River. He helped to organize Samaria Church. He left 6 children.

Funeral services for Pearl G. Smith Campbell, 92, Milwaukee, Wisc., will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Doug Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Baptist cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Campbell was born on May 25, 1909, in Alabama, the daughter of the late Luther Thomas Grant and the late Zoada K. Grant. She was an elementary school teacher. She died on Sept. 30, 2001, at Sinai Samaritan in Milwaukee. Survivors include two daughters, Marjorie Graham, Milwaukee, Ina S. Fossett, Newnan, Ga.; two sisters, Bertie Johnson, Seattle, Wash., and Eunice Messer, Midfield; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Miss Wilnita Campbell, Popular Teacher in Clanton Grammar School died of Pneumonia at age 25 Tuesday in the home of Mrs. Hattie Alred. Survived by her Parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Campbell of Burnsville, near Selma. 2 Brothers, Robert of Birmingham and Ernest of Selma, 2 Sisters, Mrs. Howard Long of Burnsville, Mrs. Mayfield Hollingsworth of Selma. Burial Selma Cemetery. She taught school here for the last three years.

Cannon was born on July 21, 1913, in Alabama, the daughter of the late Elias Henry Culver and the late Rosie Adaline Culver. She was a waitress. Survivors include one daughters, Rose (Richard) Clark, Adamsville; two grandsons, Richard Clark, Jr., Hueytown, and Timothy Clark, Adamsville; one granddaughter, Pamela Harris, Fultondale; one sister, Vera Mae Bullard, Birmingham; eight great-grandchildren, Brannon Clark, Christa White, Amanda Clark, Allison Harris, Chris Clark, Micah Harris, Aimee Harris, and Emily Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Cannon.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Lester of Orrville, Debra Smitherman of Grand Bay and Darlene Rhodes of Stanton; five brothers, Clyde Carter of Billingsley, Gordon Carter of Plantersville, Tom Carter of Maplesville, Ed Carter of Maplesville and Ernest Carter of Plantersville; five sisters, Kate Rhodes of Clanton, Margie Rhodes of Plantersville, Shirley Smitherman of Maplesville, Louise Smitherman of Maplesville, and Sybil Alberg of Clanton; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
