Atcheson, Lora Dean
March 14, 1917 - January 28, 2005
Mrs. Lora Deen Atcheson, 87 of Clanton, went peacefully home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 28, 2005 at the Fair Haven Retirement Center in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Hymon Atcheson and son, David Hymon Atcheson, Jr. Mrs. Atcheson was born to James and Martha Chambers in the Adams community of Chilton County on March 14, 1917. She was the tenth of 13 children. Her brothers were Union, Moody, Plato, Basco, Malcolm, Robert, Angles, and Calvin Chambers. Her sisters were Mattie Lenoir, Buelah Lenoir, Willie T. Lenoir, and Louise Wilkins. Mrs. Atcheson was the last surviving member of the family. Mrs. Atcheson is survived by sons Gerald Atcheson of Birmingham; Wayne Atcheson of Colorado Springs, CO; and Randy Atcheson of Greenwich, CN. Her devoted daughters in law were Francine (Gerald), Barbara (Wayne) and Laurie (Randy). She had four grandchildren; David Atcheson (Sherry) of Trussville, Mike Atcheson (Kellie) of Forestdale, Elizabeth Atcheson Poplin (Jared) of Charlotte, NC and Amy Atcheson of Tuscaloosa. She had two great grandchildren; Eric and Brett Atcheson of Trussville. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the chapel of Martin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Clanton First Baptist Church on Monday at 11:00 a.m. and burial will follow at Martin Memorial Cemetery.

Atcheson, Robert E.

Funeral services for Robert E. Atcheson, 73, of Lawley, were held Friday, Sept 5, 1997, at Maplesville Community Holiness Church at 2 p.m., with Rev. William D. Fulgham and Rev. Paul Correll officiating. Burial was held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Maplesville with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Atcheson was born Oct. 4, 1923, in Chilton County to the late Renee Atcheson. He died at his residence on Sept 3, and is survived by his wife Minnie P. Moates Atcheson of Lawley; three sons, Robert E. Atcheson, Jr., and Thomas E. Atcheson of Stanton and Jerry Atcheson of Lawley; four daughters, Shirley Louise Green and Bonnie Sue Smitherman of Maplesville, and Carolyn Ann Gipson and Linda Dian Harrison of Lawley, 19 grandchildren and 15, great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Alice A. Atchinson, 97, Birmingham, will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at 2 p.m. with Martin Funeral Home directing. Atchinson was born on April 26, 1904, in Alabama. She was a homemaker. She died on Jan. 29, 2002, at Hatley Health Care in Clanton. Survivors include one son, Sy Atchinson, Birmingham, and one daughter-in-law, Wynelle T. Atchinson, Birmingham.

Funeral services for Harvey L. Atchison, 88, Plantersville, will be held at Maplesville Baptist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dewel Fulgham and Rev. Paul Cottrell officiating. Burial will follow at Maplesville Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Atchison was born on Jan. 25, 1912, in Chilton County, the son of the late Robert Y. and Beulah S. Atchison. He was a carpenter. He died on Nov. 12, 2000, in Selma. Survivors include two sons, Leonard Atchison and Henry Atchison, both of Plantersville; three daughters, Helen Love, Winnabow, N.C., Elizabeth Lawley, Lawley, and Mary Gray, Plantersville; two brothers, Leroy Atchison and Wheeler Atchison, both of Maplesville; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Atchison was born Sept. 18, 1998[sp], in Alabama to the late James and Mollie Atchison. He worked as a farmer. He died July 27, 1998 at Hatley Health Care in Clanton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wynona Atchison.

Services for Leroy E. Atchison, 90, of Maplesville, are today at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, December 14 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ron Gatlin and Rev. Art Hartley officiating. Burial will follow in the Maplesville City Cemetery. Atchison died Sunday, December 12 in Southland Nursing Home, Marion. Survivors include three daughters, Jo Ann Haigler of Maplesville, Rita Gail Atchison of Mobile, and Joyce Hensley of Rancho Murieta, CA; son, Roy H. Atchison of Carrollton, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie V. Atchison.

Atchison, Doyle (Carolyn) Atchison, Joel (Hilda) Atchison, Eddie (Cecilia) Atchison, Paul (Catherine) Atchison; 3 Sisters, Shelby Jean(Dewayne) Matchan, Alice (Brooks) Burnett, Dianna Atchison. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Marvin & Lucille Atchison and Sister, Mary Frances Burk. Friends will be received from 6-8, Wednesday, October 13, 2010 @ Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Baptist cemetery in Stanton. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 28, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home. Born on March 19, 1917 to Robert Y. Atchison and Beulah Atchison, he died March 26, 2003 at Briarcliff Nursing Home in Alabaster. Survivors include his sons Eugene Atchison of Maplesville, Morris J. Atchison of Randolph, Willard James Atchison of Stanton, Tommy Atchison of Maplesville and Vance Atchison of Lawley; daughters Beulah Mae Davis of Marion, Goldie Mae Riffe of Maplesville, Jessie Mae Smith of Maplesville, Molly Mae Cox of Randolph; step-sons Carl Haigler of Istachatta, Fla. and Jerry Haigler of Selma; 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Earnestine Atchison; son Paul J. Atchison; daughter Ann Donahoo, grandchildren Donna Rena Riffe and Goldie Rena Riffe.

Averett, Nathan Winford 'Biggon', Jr.
September 1928 - July 06, 2003
Nathan "Biggon" W. Averett Jr., 74, of Athens, Ga., died in an automobile accident July 6, 2003, in Anniston. He was born in September 1928 in Brent, Ala., the son of the late Nathan Winford Averett Sr. and Iona Mitchell Averett. He was of the Baptist faith, a graduate of Shelby County High School, an all-around athlete at the school, served in the United States Army as a sergeant during the Korean War and retired from Rhodes Furniture Company as a supervisor. He was also a dedicated Alabama football fan. He was preceded in death by a sister, Billie Sue Jones of Clanton and a grandson, Officer John T. Burnette III of Charlotte, N.C. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Miriam Jane Morgan Averett; three daughters, Patricia (John) Mayberry and Donna (Tommy) Burnette, all of Indian Trail, N.C., and Lisa Averett of Athens, Ga.; a brother, John D. Averett of Columbiana; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Service was July 12 at McEwen Mint Hill Chapel, the Revs. Ralph Jones and David Jones presiding. Burial followed in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, McEwen Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Jeremy Burnette, Blake Starnes, Kyle Burnette, Josh Miller, Jeff Mayberry and Larry Lamb.

Baird, Dewey J., Jr.
May 21, 1928 - January 15, 2002
Funeral services for Dewey J. Baird, Jr., 73, Maplesville will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002 at 1 p.m., with Rev. James "Bo" Deloach officiating. Visitation was held at Martin Funeral Home on Jan. 16, 2002, from 6-8 p.m. Baird, was born May 21, 1928, in Jefferson County, Alabama. He was a mechanic. He died on Jan. 15, 2002 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. Survivors include four step-daughters, Carolyn P. Spradlin, Maplesville, Shirley Ann McCormick, Clanton; Judy Lane Long, Clanton; Anita Kay Sullivan, Clanton; one Step-son, Jimmy Smith, Clanton; 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Baird and daughter, Jeanie Baird.

Baker, Alfred, Jr.
Baker, Alfred, Jr., age 86, died at the home of his son, Glaucus M. Baker of Maple Springs community last Thursday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Services were held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Walnut Creek, conducted by Revs. T. B. Greenwood and N. K. Cook; Martin was directing. Grandsons served as pallbearers and grand daughters served as flower girls. Surviving are two sons, Glaucus M. Baker of Clanton, Route 2, and James Baker of Clanton Route 5. There is one daughter, Mrs. Susie Thompson of Clanton, Route 5. There are 21 grandchildren, 11 great grand children and 2 great great grand children. Alfred Baker was a member of a pioneer family of Chilton County. His father was Alfred Baker, Sr. who came here in 1825, was later representative in the Legislature from Autauga county which then comprised most of what is now Chilton county. He founded Clanton in 1870, donating most of the land. When this new county was formed in 1868 it was named Baker County in honor of Alfred Baker, which name it retained until 1875, when it became Chilton County. The mother of the deceased was Rebecca Mims Baker, member of another pioneer family. Union Banner dated October 31, 1946

Baker, Alfred, Sr.

Picture of Alfred Baker, Sr. He and a surveyor, George W. Floyd laid off Streets of Clanton in 1870. He was born 3-16-1828 in Darlington District, South Carolina, and moved at age 6 weeks from Darlington to this area. His Full Brother, John Baker died in 1915 at age 92, he had two younger full Brothers, Stephen and Anderson Baker, and 3 full Sisters, Sarah "Salley" Baker who first married a Mims, who was killed in the Civil War, then Sarah married Powell Headley, Emily Baker who first married a Headley and following his death Emily married Mr. Henry Mims and following the death of Mr. Mims she married Mr. V. J. Gragg, Sr., and Ellender or Ellen Baker who married Reuben Aldridge who died in the Civil War. Alfred Baker's Mother had been married to a Mr. Reuben Popwell first and she had two Popwell Sons, Reuben born 1811 and James born 1821, and these Popwell daughters, Mahalia who married Elijah Mims, Susan who married George Mims, Charlotte "Lotty" who married Joshua McHenry Hicks, and Mary Ann who married David Rogers.

Funeral services for Clarence Wylie Baker, 90, Clanton, were held at Concord Baptist Church on Monday, April 29, 2002, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ralph Jones, Rev. Jeff Hughes and Rev. Ralph Brannon officiating. Burial followed at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Baker was born on Oct. 19, 1911, in Chilton County, the son of the late Stephen L. Baker and the late Ella Baker. He was a restaurant owner. He died on April 28, 2002, at his residence. Survivors include his wife, Everee Baker, Clanton; one son, Curtis Baker, Clanton; two grandchildren, Christopher Baker and Bethany Lynn, both of Clanton; one brother, Howard E. Baker, Greenville, S.C.; four great grandchildren, Chase Baker, Ryan Baker, Nicholas Lynn, and Julianne Lynn, all of Clanton.

August 19, 1937 - May 07, 1998
Funeral services for Darrell Baker, 60, of Clanton were May 9, 1998, at Glad Tidings Church of God with Rev. Harlen Harris officiating. Burial was in Glad Tidings cemetery in Clanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Baker was born Aug. 19, 1937 in Chilton County to the late Pete and Zena Mims Baker. He served in the U. S. Army and worked as a carpenter. He died May 7, 1998, at Veterans Hospital in Montgomery. He is survived by three sons: Ray, Billy B. and Kenneth D. Baker, all of Clanton; two daughters: Linda D. Sanders of Verbena and Brenda K. Headley of Clanton; three brothers: Chester Baker of Flint, Mich., Hilton Easterling of Texas and Harold Baker of Mobile; four sisters: Ruth Todd of Montgomery, Annie Pearl Baker of Clanton, and Violet Forrester and Shirley Baker, both of Mobile; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Faye Baker.

Burial will follow at Concord Baptist cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Easterling was born on Jan. 13, 1913, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Steven L. Baker and the late Sara Ella Baker. She was a lunchroom manager. She died on June 21, 2001, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. Survivors include two sons, Fred A. Easterling, Clanton, and Frank Easterling, Hueytown; one daughter, Joyce Bates, Clanton; two brothers, Clarence W. Baker, Clanton, and Howard E. Baker, Greenville, S.C.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Liberty Hill Baptist Church one hour prior to the service only. Baker was born on Dec. 10, 1902, the daughter of the late William Lee Foshee and Susie Ida Crowe. She was a homemaker. She died on Sept. 21, 1999, at Hatley Health Care in Clanton. Survivors include two sons, Horace L. Baker and Thomas J. Baker, both of Pittsburg, Calif.; two daughters, Mabel B. "Pat" Tucker, Montgomery, and Doris B. Knight, Birmingham; one brother, Loyd Foshee; one sister, U. L. Headley; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dolphus G. Baker.
