Services for Jewell Phillips, 89, were at 1 p.m. May 15 at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home. Revs. Kenneth Phillips, Jerry Pike, Thomas Clay and Chad McGinnis officiated. Burial was in Crook Cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips died May 13 at the home of her daughter.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Maxine and Johnny McGinnis, Glenda and Mike Copeland and Karen and Duff Manners; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Kathy Phillips; grandchildren, Richard and Kelly McGinnis, Keith and Stephanie Phillips, Brandi and Scott Wood, Chad and Melissa McGinnis, Matthew Copeland, Michelle Copeland, Melinda Copeland, Alicia Manners, Anna Manners, Amy Manners and Tracy and Gary Parris; great-grandchildren, Madison McGinnis, Makaila Wood, Brodey McGinnis, Dylan Parris and Brad Parris.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Phillips; her grandson, Brandon McGinnis; her parents, Annie Sheppard Nelson and Mack W. Nelson; a sister, Ruby Beauford; and two brothers, Johnny Nelson and Edward Nelson.
Pallbearers were Richard McGinnis, Chad McGinnis, Keith Phillips, Matthew Copeland, Chris Boggs, James Vasquez, Vann Walker, Mike Murray and Gary Parris.
Mrs. Phillips was a native of Rome, Ga., and member of Bonny Brook Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, watching birds, and growing flowers.
SULLIVAN

Services for Perry Worth Sullivan, 97, were at 2 p.m. May 16 at Shady Grove Baptist Church (Old Sanctuary), Calhoun, Ga. Revs. Milford Ballenger and Jerome Mitchell officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery with American Legion Post No. 143 folding and presenting the flag. Almon Funeral Home of Calhoun directed.
Survivors include his wife, Nina B. Sullivan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Ron Bailey of Sun City Center, Fla., Jeanne and Ed Jordan of Jacksonville, Karen and Robert Van Cleave of Anniston; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Brenda Sullivan of Meredian, Miss., and Andy Howell of Jacksonville; a sister-in-law, Annie Sullivan of LaGrange, Ga.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, three brothers and a grandson.
Pallbearers were Ken Cicione, Ed Jordan, Andy Howell, Mac McManus, Joey Holloway and Bill Gibbs.
Mr. Sullivan was born in Carroll County, Ga., Aug. 6, 1908, to Christopher C. Sullivan and Nora Taylor Sullivan. He was a retired welder with Union Foundry. He served in the U. S. Marines for four years and was a member of Gold Ridge Baptist Church. He was an expert gardener and enjoyed the Jacksonville senior citizens program.

MAGAW

Services for Milo Eugene Magaw, 75, were at 2:30 June 18 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Rev. Harold Well officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include a daughter, Diana Renee Magaw Perry of Montgomery; a son, David Jeffery Magaw of Alexandria; a sister, Norma Kathleen Chapman of Chicago; three brothers, Malcolm Magaw of New Orleans, Ivan Magaw of Oregon, Ill., and Jimmy Magaw of Seattle; five grandchildren; seven nieces and nine nephews.
Mr. Magaw was a member of Church God of Abrahamic Faith. He was a professor at Jacksonville State University where he taught in the History Department for many years with a specialty in Modern European History. Mr. Magaw earned an A.B. degree from Duke University, an M.A. degree from Tulane University and a Ph.D from Vanderbilt University.

Graveside services for infant Linzy Dee Register were at 11 a.m. June 17 at Littlejohn Cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Boles officiated. K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directed.
The infant died June 14 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
Survivors include her parents Haylee Deann and Jesse Dee Register of Jacksonville; a sister; Ava Faye Register of Jacksonville; grandparents, Randy and Joanne Harcrow of Centre and Winn and Brad Register of Jacksonville; great-grandmothers, Ruth Grove and Faye Williams of Jacksonville and aunts and uncles, Lori and Bob Knightly; Tricia Harcrow and Health Harcrow.
WINSOR

Services for Carolyn Louise Harmon Winsor, 87, were at 2 p.m. June 15 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Bert Breland officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directed.
Mrs. Winsor died June 11 at Piedmont Health Care.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Foster of Knoxville, Tenn; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Todd Winsor of Addison, Fred and Diane Winsor of Guildford, England, and Brad and Julie Winsor of Cedartown, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, Diane Fink, Donna Winsor, Andrew Winsor Christopher Winsor, Katherine Trotter, Blake Foster, Emily Foster, Ryan, Michael, Stephen, Mary and Rebekah Winsor; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton G. Winsor.
Mrs. Winsor was a graduate of Jacksonville State University, where she was employed, with a master’s degree in library science. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Jane Self Sunday School Class, Progressive Study Club, JSU Retirees Club and Friends of Houston Cole Library. Mrs. Winsor served as a missionary in China in 1985-87 and also Taiwan.

BACKUS

Services for Joyce Backus, 78, were at 11 a.m. Sept. 5 at Weaver First United Methodist Church. Rev. Bob Smith officiated. Burial was in Edgemont Cemetery. Gray Brown-Service Mortuary directed.
Mrs. Backus died Sept. 2 at NHC in Golden Springs.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Lee Backus; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bill Backus and Bob and JoAnn Backus of Jacksonville and Mike and Cindy Backus of Huntsville; four grandchildren, Katherine Conn and her husband, Vince, Spencer Backus, Scott Backus, and Missy Backus; and two sisters, Kay Bailey and Daina Fleenor.
Pallbearers were Johnny Stinson, Chip Stinson, Jamie Hall, Billy Daugherty, Walter Bailey and Jimmy McCurry.
Mrs. Backus was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County and a member of Weaver First United Methodist Church.
BRAY

Services for Michael Wayne Bray, 56 of Wellington were Sept. 3 in the chapel of K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Rev. Mike Drummond officiated. Burial was in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Bray died Aug. 31 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife Amelia Bray of Villa Rica, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Casie Michelle and Ryan Todd Drummond of Wellington; a son; Toby Lee Bray of Saks; special caregivers, Linda Roper, Martha Stamps and David Ashley; a brother; Perry C. Bray, of Ragland and four grandchildren, Jordan Drummond, Nicholas Bray, Colton Drummond and Jackson Drummond.
Pallbearers were David Ashley, Greg Huff, Tim Sparks, Glenn Thompson, Michael Fleming and Kirk Sanders.
Mr. Bray was a member of Gospel Time Baptist Church. He was an accomplished musician and played lead guitar since the age of 8. He played in several popular bands in Calhoun County.

Services for Barbara Louise Jones, age 52, of Lincoln a.m. Aug. 30 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Rev. Bobby Jones and Rev. Tim Harper officiated. Burial was in Littlejohn Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones died Aug. 28 in Lineville.
Survivors include her husband, Ken Jones of Lineville; three daughters, Christy M. Roberts of Piedmont, Gail Fenton of New Haven, Ky. and Sharon Neuling of Louisville, Ky.; three sons, Jackie Jones and Mark Jones of Oxford and Donald Jones of Wadley; her parents, Lt. Col. (ret.) Luke H. and Rose N. West of Jacksonville; three sisters, Linda West of Birmingham, Susan Glover of Piedmont and Nancy Hamill of Moody; two brothers, Steve West of Montgomery, and David West of Lineville; and grandchildren, Nicholas King, Kristen Jones, Jordan Jones, Dalton, Jones, Candice Jones, Jarred Jones, Brooklyn Jones, Jeremy Brown, Brittany Brown, Sarah Neuling, Jaclyn Fenton, Darrick Fenton and Eric Fenton.
Pallbearers were Alex Glover, Brent Mitchell, Timothy Jones, Dave Shiffner, Curtis Haynes and Henry Hamill.
Mrs. Jones was a native of Calhoun County and resident of Clay County for 13 years. She was employed at Anniston Army Depot with 30 years of government service. She was a member of Women of the Moose.
KIRK

Graveside services for Larry H. Kirk, 64, of Ohatchee were at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at Oxford Memorial Gardens. Thompson Funeral Home directed.
Mr. Kirk died Aug. 22 at his home.
Survivors include a daughter, Victoria Parris, of Piedmont; a son, Rance Kirk, of Jacksonville; a grandson, Aubrey Kirk, of Jacksonville; two sisters, Virginia Smith, of Anniston and Glenda Stephens, of White Plains and a brother, Gerald Kirk, of Pell City.
Mr. Kirk was a resident of Calhoun County most of his life and had lived in Ohatchee, for the past nine years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Louise Kirk; both of Anniston.
