“He had been in poor health for years,” said Ed. “When he died his heart only had 10 percent of its efficiency.”
Bob moved to Jacksonville from Alexander City in 1962, following Ed who had come in 1961. The brothers opened and managed a popular eating establishment, Dari Delite, which is now Cecil’s, while attending Jacksonville State University. A lot of his time was spent, however, working with the city as a fireman and paramedic.
He retired as a 1st lieutenant with the fire department. Later, he was a greeter at the Village Inn.
He enjoyed flying and antique cars. According to Ed, Bob fancied a 1956 Packard he owned.
“He was my younger brother,” joked Ed. “I’m 15 minutes older than him. He had such a big heart. He helped a lot of people and never made a big deal out of it. People who knew him knew they could call on him and he would help them. I’m going to miss him very, very much.”
