Graveside services for Shane Michael “Big Shane” LaPier, 31, of Piedmont, were at 2 p.m. Sept. 4 at Hank cemetery with the Rev. John Childs officiating.
Mr. LaPier died Sept. 1.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry L. LaPier; his father, Tommy Joe LaPier; his stepfather and stepmother, James and Pearl Blythe; two children, Amanda Fay LaPier and Nathan LaPier; four brothers, David LaPier, Kevin LaPier, Luke Blythe and Jim LaPier; three step brothers, Steven, George and Nick Flowers; a stepsister, Shana Flowers and a number of cousins.
Mr. LaPier, a native of Calhoun County, was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Faye Motes, and his grandparents, Frank and Ruth Motes and Lillie and Ida LaPier.
MEDLEY

Services for Mary Beatrice Medley, 91, were at 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Boyd officiating. Burial was in Jacksonville City Cemetery.
Mrs. Medley died Sept. 11 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, John Bailey Medley of Arab, Glenn H. and Margaret Medley of Monroe, N. Y., and Phillip and Linda Medley of Piedmont; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bennie Uesry of Piedmont; a sister, Opal Smith of Anniston; a brother and sister-in-law, James Ford and Ruby Jo Champion of Boaz; 19 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Scott Parris, Johnny Parris, Russell Medley, Mark Medley, Tyler Medley, Tim Medley, Jason Williams and Danny Johnson.
Mrs. Medley was a native and resident of Jacksonville most all of her life. She was a homemaker and attended Emmanuel Holiness Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Medley; a daughter, Lorna Parris; and a son, Enoch S. Medley.
BROWN

Services for James Elbert Brown, 86, were at 11 a.m. Jan. 26 at First Baptist Church of White Plains with Revs. Eric Snider and James Lee Brown officiating. Gray Brown-Service directed. Burial was in Rabbittown Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Brown died Jan. 24 at UAB Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Berdene Brown; a daughter and son-in-law, Mavis and Wendell Anderson; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Ann Brown and Tim and Debbie Brown of White Plains; seven grandchildren, Robbie Anderson, Lora Smith, Melinda Raughton, Greg Brown, Stephanie Stearns, Brad Brown and Matthew Brown; nine great-grandchildren, Austin and Garrett Anderson, Jacob and Adam Smith, Justin and Kyle Raughton, Kaitlyn and Chloe Brown and Ethan Stearns; and two brothers, Leon Brown of Jacksonville and Hoyt Brown of Rabbittown.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Lige and Natie Brown; his brothers, Lloyd Brown and Rev. Johnnie Brown; his sisters, Lovella Brown and Lucille Brown; and his son, James Elbert Brown Jr.
Mr. Brown was a retired farmer and avid quail hunter. He was a World War II veteran and served in the South Pacific. He was a member of First Baptist Church of White Plains where he served actively as a deacon for 40 years.
Pallbearers were Robbie Anderson, Greg Brown, Brad Brown, Matthew Brown, Philip Smith and Alan Raughton. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church of White Plains.
COGGINS

Services for Lois Amazonia Ayers Coggins, 90, were at 2 p.m. Jan. 25 at White’s Gap Baptist Church with Revs. Joe Harris, Blake Cochran and Dr. James David Coggins officiating. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directed. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Coggins died Jan. 23 at her residence.
Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Widener of Bainbridge, Ga., and Myrtle Bell of Atlanta; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Alton and Ava Coggins and John David and Peggy Coggins of Jacksonville; a brother, Trice Ayers of Tuscaloosa; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven nieces and seven nephews.
Her husband, William Horace Coggins; and two brothers, Alton Goodrich Ayers and Ernest Ayers preceded Mrs. Coggins in death.
Pallbearers were Leonard Widener, William Joseph Widener, Luke Coggins, Clay Coggins, Bryan Coggins, Jason Nawlin, Jonathan Coggins and Michael Coggins.
Honorary pallbearers were nephews, Sammy Ayers, Frank Ayers, Marshall Ayers and Berry Ayers and grandson Barry Coggins.
DRAKE

Memorial services for Fay Ann Drake, 72, will be at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Bill Etheridge and Rev. Melisa Saccucci officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor for one hour prior to services.
Mrs. Drake died Jan. 27 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years Army Lt. Col. (ret.) Ralph Drake of Jacksonville; her mother, Svea Erd of Batavia, Ill.; a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and William Brightbill of Jacksonville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard Ralph Drake of Lutz, Fla., and Douglas Martin and Delores Drake of the U. S. Air Force, Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, Calif.; a sister, Donna Russ of Sebastian, Fla.; two brothers, Ramon Erd of Elgin, Ill., and John Hundley of Batavia, Ill.; five grandchildren, Justin Brightbill, Lindsey Fay Brightbill, Aaran Drake, Alex Drake and Amanda Margaret Drake; one great-grandchild, Samuel Medders; two nieces and one nephew.
Mrs. Drake was a native of Aurora, Ill., and a 1951 graduate of East Aurora High School. She and had lived in Jacksonville the past 30 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Pathfinders Sunday School Class and volunteered in the church’s office. She was an avid progressive Rummy player.

KNIGHT

Services for Lois Boozer Knight, 93, were at 11 a.m. Jan. 30 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Johnson officiating. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directed.
Mrs. Knight died Saturday at her home after a long illness.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Clarence Wood of Lineville and Judy and Scott Manners of Jacksonville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Ann Knight of Jacksonville, Allen and Gayle Knight of Weaver and Tim and Liz Knight of Dadeville; 26 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special “daughters”, Carolyn West Andrews and Linda West Beavers.
Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Knight; two daughters, Billie Nance and Mary Hopper; two sons, Donald Knight and Johnny Knight; her parents, J. L. and Janie Boozer; three sisters, Jessie Gorey, Lillian West and Emmie Boozer; four brothers, Emmett Boozer, Aubrey Boozer, Leon Boozer and Lawrence Boozer and two grandsons.
Mrs. Knight was born in Pleasant Valley and lived in Jacksonville all of her life. She was the oldest living member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and the mother of nine. She worked with each child in the school programs through Jacksonville elementary, high school and college years.
In 1973 she was honored by the Jacksonville High School Band Boosters Club for her 24 years of service. She was also the recipient of the Exchange Club’s Book of Golden Deeds award in 1996.

STONE

Services for Betty Lee Stone, 77, were at 11 a.m. Jan. 27 at West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Caudle officiating. K. L. Brown Funeral Home was in charge.
Mrs. Stone died Jan. 23 at Jacksonville Medical Center.
Survivors include three daughters, Sheryl Sandall of Clinton, Md., Sharon Young of Hernando, Fla., and Sheila Schumaker of Jacksonville; three sons, Nicholas Stone Jr., of Woodbridge, Va., Joseph W. Stone of Charles Town, W. Va., and Bruce Stone of Jacksonville; two sisters, Nan Stone of Orlando, Fla. and Elizabeth Cole of Rising Sun, Md.; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Nicholas Stone III, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Bruce Stone Jr., Michael Stone, David Schumaker, Kyle Schumaker and Joseph Shives. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren Eric Stone, Genesis Stone, Noah Stone, Steven Davis, Alan Artino, Zachary Shives, Kristin Shives, Nicholas Souder and Cody Souder.
Mrs. Stone was a native of Washington, D.C., and resident of Jacksonville since 1990. She was a member of West Side Baptist Church and owned and operated Betty’s Babies and Doll Hospital in Jacksonville and Oxford for several years.

WILLIAMS

Services for Audrey Roszell Cook Williams, 78, will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 1 in the chapel of K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Rev. Bill Caudle officiating.
Mrs. Williams died Jan. 29 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Pamela (Cook) and Jerry Key, Dorothy Cook and Orbie Cook; two grandchildren, Justin Cook and his wife, Tiffany, and Jayme Vinson; and a great-grandchild, Baylee Cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Williams; her parents Orbie and Ona (Andrews) Roszell; a sister, Dorothy Roszell; a granddaughter, Brandi Vinson and a great-granddaughter,
Pallbearers will be Anthony Smith, Lytel Smith, Jerry Stinson, Mike Williams, Mike Murray and William Batchelor.
Mrs. Williams was a native and lifelong resident of Jacksonville and a member of West Side Baptist Church. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, gospel music, and singing and at one time belonged to the Jacksonville Trio, which included Dulcie Andrews Gaines and Bette Andrews Wood. They sang at gospel conventions throughout the South. Mrs. Williams was a volunteer and former advisory board member for the senior citizens.
