McNABB
A memorial service for Agnes McVey McNabb was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, in the chapel of K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ann and Robert Busby of Falls Church, Va., Beth and Stephen Halstead of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Kem Kendig and her children Andy and Katie of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a son, Charles Jack McNabb of Jacksonville and his daughter Tiya of Birmingham.
Mrs. McNabb came to this country from a small coal-mining town in Scotland. She was 18 when she married
an Army man and traveled the world while having children. “The years spent raising my children were the best in my life,” she would say.
She received a bachelor’s and a master’s from Jacksonville State University and spent 20 years teaching high school English and elementary reading, the joy of her career. Following her retirement she worked with the Jacksonville Meals on Wheels and served as a “bell ringer” at Christmas for the Salvation Army. She enjoyed helping those less fortunate. For many years she was a member of the Inter Se Study.
Memorial donations can be made to the Jacksonville Christian Outreach Center or Hillcrest Baptist Church in Saks.
REDFORD
Graveside services for Annie Ruth Redford, 73, will be at 2 p.m. today at Nances Creek Cemetery. Ray Brock will officiate. K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center will direct.
Mrs. Redford died Aug. 17 at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Redford, of Jacksonville; two sons, Kenneth Redford of California and Keith Tippets of Jacksonville; three brothers, Danny Wilson, Charles Wilson and William Wilson, all of Jacksonville; four grandchildren; her companion, James Bundrum, of Jacksonville and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents Kenneth and Annie Redford; two daughters Pam Crawford and Denise Turner and a sister Faye Kerimidias preceded her in death.
SMITH
Services for Clifford McKinley Smith, 89, formerly of Anniston, will be 11 a.m. today at Jacksonville Church of Christ. Song leaders will be Homer Smith and Jim Mercer Sr. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Gray Brown Service Mortuary directed.
Mr. Smith died Friday, Aug. 15.
Survivors include wife of 68 years Estelle Smith, of Searcy, Ark., formerly of Anniston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Tom Alexander of Searcy, Ark., and Glenda and Jim Mercer and husband of Huntsville; a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Mary Ann Smith of Wetumpka; seven grandchildren, Jim Mercer Jr. and his wife Mary Kay, Steven Mercer and his wife Yvonne, Julie Campbell, Rachel Smith and her husband Craig, Jeffrey Mercer and his wife, Emmie, Isaac Alexander and his wife Angela, and Hannah Carpenter and her husband Heath; 18 great-grandchildren, Jesse Campbell, Stephanie Mercer, Peyton Mercer, Taylor Mercer, Kaylee Mercer, Philip Mercer, Cade Smith, Jena Rogers, Tristin Carpenter, Canon Smith, Colton Smith, Silas Smith, Jeffrey Mercer Jr., Levi Mercer, Violet Alexander, Joshua Rogers, Catcher Smith, and Anderson Mercer; many nieces and nephews among these Wanda Godfrey Steen, Marie Godfrey Couch, June Godfrey Ottinger, and Cheryl Godfrey Bonds.
Pallbearers will be Jim Mercer Jr., Peyton McKinley Mercer, Jesse Campbell, Isaac Alexander, Jeffrey Mercer Sr., and Craig Smith.
His mother Duncan fathers Richard Smith and John Duncan, sister Johnia Holder, brothers Homer “Jack” Smith, Billie Lee Smith, and Bobby Duncan preceded him in death.
Mr. Smith was born in Jacksonville on March 19, 1919. He grew up in Jacksonville and married
Estelle Norton of Williams. They met in the 10th grade and were high school sweethearts. They wed in October 1939. They were baptized by Joe S. Hyde in October 1945. Mr. Smith began teaching at the Jacksonville Church of Christ and leading singing. At the age of 37 he began preaching for the Ironaton Church of Christ near Talladega.
He worked over 22 years at Fort McClellan as supervisor and U.S. government employee before retiring to preach in full-time
WILSON
Services for George W. Wilson, Jr., 58, were at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, in the chapel of K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Rev. Tommy Hollingsworth officiated. Burial was in Whites Gap Cemetery.
Mr. Wilson died Aug. 11 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his former wife, Regina Wilson; two daughters and a son-in-law, Shannon and Derek Cannon and Leslie Wilson, all of Jacksonville; four sons and a daughter-in-law Matthew and Gina Wilson of Jacksonville, Christopher Wilson of Tuscaloosa, Austin Wilson of Anniston and Christian Wilson of Mississippi; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Doug Fritts of Plymouth, Mass., Deborah and Daniel Kimborowicz of Hingham, Mass., and Mary Beth and Hank Bueniewicz of Oviedo, Fla.; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Maggie Wilson of Masphpee, Mass., Thomas Wilson of Port Orange, Fla., Donald and Leslie Wilson of Florida and Andrew Wilson of Arizona; five grandchildren, Tyler, Torren, Kaitlyn, Brooklyn and Tristan; a special niece, Julie Wilson and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were James Ramey, Ray Pledger, Kevin Sells, J.J. Taylor, Frank Whaley and Mike Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Patterson, Danny Sweat, Jimmy Woods, Jerry Gardner, Ronnie Traffanstedt Scottie Greenwood, Wayne Smith and Jim McGill and members of The CDL Connections, The Social Club, and the On The River Club.
His parents George Wilson, Sr. and Mary Wilson and a son George Michael Wilson preceded him in death. Mr. Wilson was an avid basketball player. He set a U.S. Marathon record in Massachusetts on May 2, 1966. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served as post commander of the American Legion Post No. 157 in Jacksonville. He was a Red Sox fan.
COLEMAN
Services for Chalmas Guy Coleman, 87, of Mobile, formerly of Calhoun County, were at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs. Rev. Jim Simpson officiated. Entombment was at Forestlawn Mausoleum.
Mr. Coleman died Aug. 22 at his residence in Mobile after a long illness.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Mae Coleman; a daughter, Judy Coleman Fleischamel; a brother, Rudolph M. Coleman; and three grandchildren, Andrew Fleischamel, Scott Fleischamel, and Holly Fleischamel Moody.
Pallbearers were Dan Smith, Dennis Green, Bud Ward, Billy Ward, Bobby Ward and Daniel H. Smith.
Mr. Coleman lived most of his life in Calhoun County. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corp veteran and was retired from the State of Alabama. He and his wife also owned and operated Coleman Carpet Center in Anniston. He was a member of the Anniston Civitan Club, where he served as the president for a year.
GRIFFITH
Services for Mary Griffith, 84, were at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, at Gray Brown Service Chapel in Anniston. Burial was in Union United Methodist Church. Gray Brown-Service Mortuary directed.
Mrs. Griffith died Aug. 20, while residing with caregivers in Wellington.
Mrs. Griffith was a life-time member of Peace Assembly Church of God in Anniston, where she had been active, until recent years when her health limited her activities. She held the position of pastor at Peace Assembly, formerly known as Northside Assembly.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Ann Grammer of Anniston; a special sister, Beulah Bunt of Ragland, and her guardian sister, Barbara Ann Land and her husband J.T., of Birmingham. Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law Fretwell and Judy Newman of Ohatchee and Tony and Linda Newman of Arkansas; a foster son, Robert Fuller and his wife, Dianne, who also served as caregivers; a foster son, Ted Fink and wife Amanda of Oxford; three grandchildren, Fretwell Shane Newman, Kristy LeeAnn Newman, and Kenneth Russell “Rusty” Newman; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a great foster grandson, Graham Fuller of Germany.
Mrs. Griffith owned and operated Newman’s Jewelers and Griffith’s Jewelers. During the 1960s she opened her home to some 80 foster sons The family wants to thank Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center, the staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, and Hope Hospice.
HALE
Services for William Louis Hale, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel. Rev. Scott Smith will officiate. Burial will be Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Hale died Aug. 24 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lanell Thompson Hale; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathy and Earl Beal of Timberlake, N.C., Teresa Martin Smith of Hokes Bluff and Michelle and Phillip Dean of Jacksonville; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lois Murray of Oxford, Jo Phillips of Cook Springs, Nell and Frank Nelson of Guntersville and Peggy Crow Young and her husband Harold of Anniston; a brother and sister-in-law, Millard and Mickie Hale of Glencoe; two sisters-in- law, Geraline Hale and Louise Hale of Huntsville; nine grandchildren, Justin Beal and his wife Cheryl, Amanda Martin Edmondson and her husband Josh, Jessica Martin Haney and her husband John, Amy Martin, Andrea Smith, Breanna Sanford, Kyleigh Hale Johnson, Russell Dean and Alex Dean; 10 great-grandchildren, Gena Huff, Dillon and Ethan Edmonson, Wesley, Hayden and Megan Haney, Waylon Wagner, and Tori, Kinley and Cambre Johnson and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, grandsons-in-law and a nephew, Stuart Thompson.
Mr. Hale was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of West Point Baptist Church. He was previously employed at Alabama Water Pipe and retired from Anniston Army Depot. A son Louis Allen Hale, his parents S.T. and Amanda Hale, sister Dorothy Hale and brothers Nelson, Clinton and Roy Eugene Hale preceded him in death.

HOLLINGSWORTH
Services for Jeff Hollingsworth, 50, were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home. Rev. Lamar Denkins officiated. Burial was in Anniston Memorial Gardens. Anniston Memorial Funeral Home directed.
Mr. Hollingsworth died Aug. 18 at Alabama Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Brandi and Josh Johnson of Alexandria and Kari Hollingsworth of Weaver; a granddaughter, Kalee Johnson; his mother, Marie Hollingsworth; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Laura and Fred Vaughn and Leigh Lloyd of Weaver and Jo Lynne and Tim Phillips of Jacksonville and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bruce Barnett, Roy Roberts, Brent Gilmore, Garry Thompson, Fred Vaughn and Tim Phillips.
His father John Hollingsworth preceded him in death. Mr. Hollingsworth was a graduate of Weaver High School, class of 1976 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Weaver.
HOUSCH
Services for Billy Justice Housch, 75, of Summerville, Ga., were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Trion (Ga.) United Methodist Church. Revs. Art Graves, David Autry and Rob Pierce officiated. Burial was in Greenhills Memory Gardens. Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home directed.
Mr. Housch died Aug. 15 in Emory University Hospital.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Wyndoleen Elizabeth (Keith) Housch, of Summerville, Ga.; a son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Tracy Housch of Sylacauga; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Jimmy Mallicoat of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Justin Mallicoat, Kristen Housch, Keri Mallicoat and Stephanie Housch; a brother, Bob Housch of Summerville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Donald Smith of Ila, Ga., and Martha and Emory “Bo” Gilmer of Summerville, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Barry Dunaway, David Snow, Bobby Hannah, Mike Kingsmore, Mike Stover, David Messer, Lee Copeland, Greg Luke, and Randy Odonell. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Ingle, Hayward Hunter, Bill Worsham, Allen Green, Ozella Freeman, Ruth Grimes, Kathy Grimes, Joe Hood, Lamar Turner, Joe Cook, the 1949 Class of Chattooga High School, the Christian Fellowship Sunday School class, and the Methodist Men’s Club.
His parents Milton and Senada House preceded him in death. Mr. Housch was born in Summerville (Chattooga County) on Aug. 27, 1932. He was a life long resident of that county. He graduated from Summerville High School in 1949, served in the United States Army and worked for Riegel Textile Company where retiring after 42 years. During his time at Riegel, he worked on the farm, planted trees, and then moved in the office area working in the computer (data processing) department.
He was a life long member of Trion United Methodist Church where he served in a variety of ministry areas and was a member of the Men’s Club.
