A graveside service was held for James W. Martin on Friday, August 22, 2 p.m., at Poplar Creek Cemetery in Colbert County with the Rev. Ron Winterberg officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Martin died Thursday, August 21, 1997, at National Healthcare Center in Moulton.
He was born in Colbert County and was a Korean and Vietnam veteran, Green Beret, and served in the Bay of Pigs.
Survivors include two sons, James Kerry Martin of Birmingham and Justin Martin of Dothan; two daughters, Selina Plaxco of Moulton and Rhonda Devaney of Courtland; a brother, Kenneth Martin of Leighton; a sister, Sue Sinclair of Florence; and seven grandchildren.
William Frank Alred
88, retired mechanic, Decatur
A graveside service was held for William Frank Alred on Thursday, August 28. The 2 p.m. service was held at Old Beulah Cemetery in Lawrence County with the Rev. Willie Delashaw officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Alred died Tuesday, August 26, 1997, at his residence.
He was born in Lawrence County and was a Baptist. He was retired from G&W Asphalt Co.
Survivors include his wife, Verbie Alred; four sons, Larry Alred and Jerry Alred, both of Decatur, Harold Naylor of Addison and Malcolm Alred of Hot Springs, Ark.; three daughters, Diane Alred and Betty Henderson, both of Decatur and Geraldine Alred Fennel of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Myrtle Spillers of Moulton; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Dr. John R. Guice, Roger Naylor, Ronnie Ashbranner, Brian Alred, Coy Alred, Jerry Strickland and Jeff Compton.
Minnie Sue Berryman
73, Hartselle
A graveside service for Minnie Sue Berryman was held Friday, August 29, 10:30 a.m., at Burningtree Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ron Wilson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Berryman died Wednesday, August 27, 1997, at Hartselle Medical Center.
She was born in Lawrence County to the late Bass and Essie Rutherford. Mrs. Berryman was a member of First Baptist Church of Hartselle.
Survivors include her husband, Bedford J. Berryman; two sons, William Jerry Berryman of Decatur and Jon Brett Holladay of Hartselle; a daughter, Judy Richards of Decatur; five sisters, Ruby Warren of Haleyville, Myrtle Tanksley, Vera Nell Steadman, Betty McLemore and Doris LouAllen, all of Moulton; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Maebell Hill

A graveside service for Maebell Hill, who died Wednesday, August 27, 1997, in Cordova, Tenn., was held Friday, August 29, at Courtland City Cemetery. The 2 p.m. service was officiated by Robert Gatlin and directed by Ridout's Brown Service Funeral Home.
She was born to Joseph and Mattie Jordon and was a member of Courtland Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Selma Hill; two sons, Jimmy Hill of Courtland and Selma Hill Jr. of Tuscaloosa; two daughters, Wanda Gatlin of Cordova, Tenn. and Elouise Rhodes of Prattville; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
William Allen Rutherford
56, Rust Engineering, Birmingham
A memorial service for William Allen Rutherford was held Thursday, August 28, 2 p.m., at Southern Heritage Chapel with Ridout's-Brown-Service directing.
Mr. Rutherford died Monday, August 25, 1997.
He was born in Gadsden and was a long-time Birmingham resident. He graduate from the University of Alabama with a degree in engineering, served as an officer in the U.S, Army in Europe and spent most of his career as an employee of Rust Engineering.
Survivors include his wife, Elsa Dodd Rutherford; two daughters, Elizabeth Johnson of Birmingham and Melissa Nemiro of Charlotte, N.C.; his parents; Bill and Henrietta Rutherford of Gadsden; a sister, Cathy Waldrup of Rainbow City; one granddaughter; nephews and nieces.

He was born in Amarillo, Texas and was owner of Southern Counseling Services.
Mr. Baird is survived by his wife, Brenda White Baird; two daughters, Taylor Marie Baird and Makinly Ann Baird, both of Decatur; his mother, Regina Baird of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five brothers, Roy Lee Baird of Phoenix, Ariz., Larry Baird of Tucson, Ariz., George Baird of Glendale, Ariz., Ricky Baird of Dallas, Texas, and David Baird of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Pallbearers were Gene Waldon, Tom Moore, Ken McCown, J. T. Masterson, Wendell Ryland and Forney Howard.

Survivors include two sons, Alton N. Hill of Hartselle and Curtis Lee Hill of Moulton; three brothers, Percy Sandlin and Virgil Sandlin, both of Moulton and Dee Sandlin of Trinity; one sister, Imogene McDonald of Moulton; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Grandsons and nephews were the pallbearers.

He is survived by one sister, Frances Kracke of Courtland.
