VIRGINIA RAINEY SMITH
TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Virginia Rainey Smith, 68, will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Roger Young officiating. Burial will be in East Providence Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith died Nov. 25 at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County, was a member of East Providence Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Lathan Grant Smith Sr.; two sons, Kenneth Smith and Lathan Grant Smith Jr.; and a daughter, Patsy Gurley.
She is survived by five daughters, Martha Malone and husband Roy Malone of Munford, Becky Smith, Mary Fowler and Charlotte Jean Golden of Talladega and Carra S. Strickland and husband Thomas E. Strickland of Lincoln; one daughter-in-law, Pam Smith of Talladega; four sons, Eddie Paul Smith and Phillip Smith of Talladega, David Smith and wife Tara of Blowing Rock, N.C., and James E. Smith of Townsend, Mont.; her mother, Minnie Rainey of Munford; two sisters, Patsy Smith of Wedowee and Peggy Beck of Munford; four brothers, Jimmy and James Rainey of Munford, Wayne Rainey of Eastaboga and Doug Rainey of Virginia; 42 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Terry Fowler, Jeff Snider, Andy Fowler, Donald Beck, Johnny Frank, Adam Beck, Howard Bussie and Wallace Bussie.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Smith, Zach Smith, Joe Smith, Jon Smith, Austin Malone, Christopher Strickland, Jeremy Fowler, Anthony Fowler, Patrick Smith, Thomas Grant Smith, Jake Smith, Roy (Shug) Lathem and Ed Dunnaway.
Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.
SADIE MAE BURTON
SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Sadie Mae Burton, 88, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. James Maddox officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery
in Sylacauga.
Mrs. Burton died Nov. 26 at Coosa Valley BMC. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church for 63 years, where she hosted the Ladies Prayer meeting in her home.
She is survived by five sons, Billy Jack Burton of Sylacauga, the Rev. Archie Burton of Russia, Sammy Burton of Covington, Ga., Mack Burton of LaPlata, Md., and Jud Burton of Stone Mountain, Ga.; four daughters, Helen Brown of Goodwater, Alice Harrison of Rossville, Ga., Sarah Maddox of Sylacauga and Cricket White of Snellville, Ga.; one brother, Carl Mims of Decatur; one sister, Nell Skelton of Fanning Springs, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Estelle Ray of Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga.; 23 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
The family will accept flowers or contributions may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 102 Row Road, Sylacauga, Ala., 35151.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

ALEXANDER CITY — Rufus Neal Coley Jr. died Nov. 24 at his residence.

LENA LOUISE ADAMS COOK
BIRMINGHAM — Funeral service for Lena Louise Adams Cook, 72, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Birmingham on Lakeshore Drive. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Cook died Nov. 25. She was born in Birmingham and grew up in Southside. She attended Ramsay High School and graduated from Woodlawn High School. Before retiring, she served as financial officer of Mitchell Electronics. For 25 years she worked as a volunteer with the Baptist Medical Center Montclair Auxiliary, serving as the organization's president and in a number of other leadership roles.
Most of her adult life, she was a member of Ruhama Baptist Church. For the past four years, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Birmingham. She was group leader of the Friendship Sunday School Class at First Baptist, was a member of the Winsome Sunday School Class at Ruhama, Samford University Auxiliary, Crystal Bell Choir, International Myeloma Foundation and an active member of the Woodlawn High School 1943-44 alumni group.
She is survived by her husband, Merrill Cook; daughters, Merrilyn Cook and Debbie Cook Wilson of Birmingham; sisters, Jo Zuber and husband Robert of Birmingham and Gladys Niland of Aiken, S.C.; brothers, James Adams and wife Jane and John Adams and wife Geneva of Birmingham and Robert Adams and wife Margaret of Ashville, N.C.; two granddaughters, Lindsey Christian and Lauren Christian of Birmingham; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 5 until 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Charles Bonner, Robbie White, Jack Mayhall, Julius Franks, Hugh Sorrell and Bob White.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Baptist Medical Center Montclair Auxiliary, Winsome Sunday School Class of Ruhama Baptist Church and Friendship Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Birmingham.

LEIGH DEHANNON DAWSON
PELL CITY — Funeral service for Leigh Dehannon Dawson, 24, was Monday at 11 a.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Gene Smith officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
Ms. Dawson died Nov. 24. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Clara and J.V. Sims. She was a lifelong resident of Pell City, attended the Pell City School System and was a graduate of Victory Christian School.
She is survived by two children; her parents, Cindy and Rodney Rich of Cropwell; sisters, Valerie and Clair Rich of Cropwell; brother, Scott Rich of Coal City; grandparents, Sue Brown of Cropwell and Bob and Connie Hawkins of Mexico; and her great-grandmother, Cleo Hawkins of Union Grove.
St. Clair County Sheriffs' deputies served as pallbearers.

LOUISE DOWDLE
NEW SITE — Funeral service for Louise Dowdle, 64, will be Tuesday at noon at Mt. Godfrey United Methodist Church with Pastor Shirleen Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Rocky Mount Cemetery
in Roanoke.
Mrs. Dowdle died Nov. 23 at Russell Medical Center.
She is survived by two daughters, Gladys Dowdle of Euclid, Ohio and Gloria Burnett of Berea, Ohio; one son, Anthony Dowdle of Birmingham; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandsons and a host of other relatives.

EUNICE ESTHER EDMUNDS
HERMITAGE, Tenn. — Memorial service for Eunice Esther Edmunds, 87, will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at McKendree Village chapel.
Mrs. Edmunds died Nov. 24. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Owen Daniel Edmunds, and a son, Jeffrey Mark Edmunds.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan Edmunds Lewis; son-in-law, Rex Euel Lewis; daughter-in-law, Glenda Edmunds Mixon; and grandchildren, Katherine Elaine Lewis, Brian Christopher Lewis, Jeffrey Mark Edmunds Jr. and Kelly Suzanne Edmunds.

SAMUEL MONROE FINN
CHILDERSBURG — Funeral service for Samuel (Sam) Monroe Finn, 68, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. David Mann officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery
in Childersburg.
Mr. Finn died Nov. 24 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forney and Lizzie Finn. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church for 30 years, served in the Childersburg Rescue Squad and sang with the Gospel-Aires Quartet.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Finn of Childersburg; one daughter, Samantha Fowler of Childersburg; two brothers, Ralph Finn of Talladega and Edgar Finn of Chelsea; and two grandchildren.

ROBERT THOMAS JENKINS
BIRMINGHAM — Memorial service for Robert Thomas Jenkins was Monday at Canterbury United Methodist Church. Private graveside service followed.
Mr. Jenkins died Nov. 23. He was born on Aug. 16, 1923, in Talladega. He was the son of William Thomas Jenkins and Pauline Odessa West Jenkins. He graduated from Talladega High School in 1941 as valedictorian of his class. He attended the University of Alabama prior to receiving an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in 1943. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1946. He served in the Navy until 1950 and was thereafter recalled for the Korean Conflict.
Following his service in the Navy, he worked with Stockham Valves and Fitting in Birmingham, prior to going into to the machine tools business, establishing Modern Machinery Associates, Inc. in 1959. He will be remembered by many as Bobby Tom Jenkins from his football days. He was an All State running back at Talladega High School, scoring 24 touchdowns in his senior year. He played at Alabama under Coach Frank Thomas on the 1942 varsity team, participating in Alabama's victory over Boston College in the 1943 Orange Bowl. While at the Naval Academy, he was selected as an All-American in the same backfield as Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard. He was elected to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1982.
He was a member and former chairman of the board of the Canterbury United Methodist Church, a past captain of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, past member of the board of the Crippled Children's Foundation, King of the Beaux Arts Krewe in 1987 and a member of the Country Club of Birmingham.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Jane Rainer Jenkins; three children, Robert Thomas Jenkins Jr., Patricia Rainer Jenkins Noble and Mary Bentley Jenkins Hammett; and eight grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canterbury United Methodist Church Youth Program or a favorite charity.
Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood directed the service.
MARY B. LEONARD
KELLYTON — Mary B. Leonard died Nov. 25 at Russell Medical Center.

MARTHA LOUISE POE
LEEDS — Funeral service for Martha Louise Poe, 73, was Saturday at First Baptist Church of Leeds with the Rev. Phil Smith and the Rev. Ray Forman officiating. Burial was in Jefferson Memorial in Trussville.
Mrs. Poe died Nov. 21. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Leeds and Central Park Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, M.P. and Ruby Scott.
She is survived by her husband, Harold W. Poe Sr. of Leeds; sons, Hal Poe of Leeds and James Poe of Leeds; brother, James Sonny Scott of Birmingham; and five grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund.
