Melvin “Pim” Greene, 62, of Repton died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Monroe County Hospital.
Greene was a native of Conecuh County and a resident of Monroe County. He was employed by Evergreen Concrete Company and Greene’s Concrete. He was a member of Centennial #1 Baptist Church of Evergreen.
Survivors include his wife, Flora B. Greene; one son, Melvin (Iveth) Millender of Marrero, La.; three daughters, Orlanda K. (Jeffery) Washington of New Orleans, La., Laura A. (Leonard) Marchand, Baton Rouge, La. and Pamela E. Greene (DeShawn) Evans of Jackson, Miss.; five sisters, Deloris (Howard) Stallworth of Evergreen, Rosie L. Jones and Daisy L. (David) Manson, both of Bloomfield, Conn., Fannie M. (Wilson) Porter of Clemmons, N.C. and Annie M. Lee of Montgomery; three brothers, Willie James (Carlene) Greene of Tampa, Fla., Robert E. Greene of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and David I. Greene of LaPuente, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, March 23 at 1 p.m. at West Side Baptist Church in Evergreen. Burial followed in Belleville Cemetery in Belleville.

Otis James Luker
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Otis James Luker, 85, of Monroeville died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette.
Luker was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. He was a Purple Heart receiver, was a World War II veteran of the United States Army, serving from June 4, 1943 to Jan. 10, 1946. He was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church and was a self employed TV repairman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Luker; his granddaughter, Karen Luker; his great-granddaughter, Jennie Luker; and a half brother, Willie J. Luker.
Survivors include four sons, Jimmy Luker, Paul Luker and Daryle Luker, all of Excel and Wayne Luker of Bermuda; two daughters, D.J. Luker of Daphne and Elaine Reaves of Bermuda; four half-brothers, Max Luker of Montgomery, James Luker of Millers Ferry, Ben Luker of Vredenburgh and Paul Luker of Monroeville; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Mexia Cemetery in Mexia.

Janie Lee Stabler McKinley
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Janie Lee Stabler McKinley, 100, of Franklin died Monday, March 23, 2009 at Thomasville Nursing Home in Thomasville.
McKinley, a resident of Franklin for many years, had been a resident of Thomasville Nursing Home for the past seven years. She was a member of Springhill Baptist Church Incorporated. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Jefferson McKinley; her son, Lonnie Jackson McKinley; three daughters, Emily Faye McKinley, Catherine McKinley Tatum and an infant; and two sons-in-law, Tollie Howell and Rick Detrick.
Survivors include one son, Leonard Ray McKinley of Las Vegas, Nev.; three daughters, Dorothy Howell of Grove Hill, Betty Jane Detrick of Thomasville and Annie Lou (Rev. Warren) Huggins of Thomasville; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 30 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the church. Funeral services will follow at Springhill Baptist Church Incorporated with Rev. Warren Huggins and Rev. David Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery in Franklin.

Bro. James Mosley
Gilmer’s Funeral Home, Mobile
Funeral services for Bro. James Mosley will be held Saturday, March 28 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church #1 in Tunnel Springs with Rev. Whalen Oliver, pastor, officiating. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. and funeral services will begin at 11 a.m.

Essie Dee Romero
O’Bryant O’Keefe Funeral Home, Pascagoula, Miss.
Essie Dee Romero, 93, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at her home in Gautier, Miss.
Romero was born in Monroe County but had lived in Jackson County, Miss. for the past 75 years. In 1944 she came to the Pascagoula area and worked at the Joy Theatre, American Legion Post 160, Slater’s Cafeteria at Ingalls and the post office. She traveled extensively in the south for Morrison Cafeterias as relief manager, facility start-up specialist, problem solver, auditor, and “general master” of all functions. Her last food venture was “Dee’s Cafeteria” in Reserve, La while owning and operating her trailer park in LaPlace, LA. She was a 52 year member of the American Legion Post 160 Auxiliary and she was the last surviving Charter Member of the 8/40, the honor society of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as Queen Ruth in 1986.
She was preceded in death by a son; James Edward Ward; a great-great grandson, Jayden Lane Breeland and her sibling, Bertie Mae Johnson.
Survivors include two daughters, Melbaleen Lewis Yager and Sue (Ken) Stearns, both of Gautier, Miss.; two sons, Hayward Drexel (Theresa) Ward of Pascagoula and Richard Deland (Ann) Goff of Holden, La.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 14 at 10:30 a.m. at O’Bryant O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula. Burial followed in Sowell Old Field Cemetery in Goodway.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts to St. Pierre’s Episcopal Church in Gautier or a charity of choice.

Nancy McKenzie Sessions
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Nancy McKenzie Sessions of Beatrice died Saturday, March 21 in a Mobile hospital.
Sessions was a native and lifelong resident of Monroe County. She was a retired office manager for Scotch Plywood Company in Beatrice and a member of the Peterman United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Eddie Sessions of Beatrice; her mother, Virgie Mae McMillan of Beatrice; two daughters, Libby (Wes) Kennedy of Camden and Jackie (Rick) Baxter of Deer Park; one brother, Harold (Cynthia) McMillan of Mexia; one sister, Nell (Rod) Sewell of Elberta; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, March 23 at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Cross officiating. Burial followed in the Bryant Cemetery in Finchburg.

Byron Bullard
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Byron Bullard, 73, of Frisco City died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Monroe County Hospital.
Bullard was born in Brundidge, lived in Andalusia and moved to Monroe County in 1965. He retired after working in the construction business.
He was preceded in death by his parents, F.W. Bullard and Gladys Pynes Bullard.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Bullard of Old Salem; a son, Byron Wade Bullard of Old Salem; a daughter, Susan Leigh (Tom) Dickman of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a brother, Donald Bullard of Andalusia; a sister, Helen Anderson of Destin, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
A family visitation was held Thursday, April 16 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be sent to the American Cancer Society.

William S. “Billy” Hall
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
William S. “Billy” Hall, 89, of Excel died Monday, April 20, 2009 at his home.
Hall was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. He worked as a builder with Standard Furniture Company. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emett Hall and Lovina Hall; his brothers, Greg Hall and Buford Hall; and his sisters, Mary Lou Smith and Thelma Hall.
Survivors include two sisters, Cloyette Parrish of Excel and Gwendolyn Biggs of Peterman.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 21 at 2 p.m. at Excel Cemetery in Excel with Rev. Jackson Knight officiating.

Christopher Wyatt Lassiter
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Infant Christopher Wyatt Lassiter, 24 days old, died March 24, 2009 at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
Lassiter was born at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Ashley Lassiter of Pensacola; his grandparents, Velma Marie Champion and Bobby Champion and Michael Lassiter and Samantha Lassiter; and great-grandparents, Mary Warren and Henerietta Lassiter.
Services were held Friday, March 27 at 2 p.m. at the Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. William Wasden officiating. Burial followed in Monroe Chapel Cemetery.

Albertine Francine Nollemans
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Albertine Francine Nollemans, 82, of Peterman died Monday, April 20, 2009 at her daughter’s home in Peterman.
Nollemans was born in Liege, Belgium and has lived in Monroe County since 1992. She was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church of Monroeville. She had worked as an executive housekeeper with motels.
Survivors include two sons, Carlton (Diane) Weaver of Newton and Paul Wayne (Pat) Weaver of Gilbertown; three daughters, Gladys (Jeff) Green in Meridian, Gayle (Charlie) Steen of Monroeville and Francine (John) Grider of Peterman; one sister-in-law, Hazel (Willie) Whittington of Ozark; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 22 at 10 a.m. at The Annunciation Catholic Church of Monroeville with Rev. Patrick Madden and Rev. Michael Elliott officiating. A graveside service was held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Mosley-Bowell Cemetery in Gilbertown.

Margaret Eloise Ward Worthington
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Margaret Eloise Ward Worthington, 67, of Monroeville died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at her home.
Worthington was born in Wichita, Kan. and had lived in Monroeville since 1997. She attended the First Baptist Church of Monroeville and was a member of Wellington Place Baptist Church in Wichita. She worked in retail sales and was a member of the Civitan Club.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter; and two sisters.
Private family services have been scheduled for a later date.
