Otto Stokes, Jr

Mr. Otto Stokes, Jr. died Friday, October 1, 2004 at the age of 67 in Atmore.

He was a native of Kentwood, LA, a former resident of Pensacola and a resident of Century for the past 16 years. He was retired from the Pensacola Parks and Recreation after 30 years of service, attended the Chesbrough Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his Parents, Otto Stokes, Sr. and Corra Lee Lebo Stokes.

Survivors include his Wife of 46 years, Barbara Lindsey Stokes of Century; three Sons, Robert Earl Gafford, Sr. of Holt, FL, J.W. Gafford of Century and Otto Stokes, III of Pensacola; two Daughters, Barbara Ann Flowers of Pensacola and Ruby Patricia Tolbert of Brewton; two Brothers, Aubrey Stokes of Tangipahoa, LA and Carley Stokes of Mt. Hermon, LA; five Sisters, Annie Stokes Jones, Laverne Stokes Wall and Margaret Stokes Magliolo, all of Hammond, LA, Dorothy Stokes Googe of Baton Rouge, LA and Lexie Stokes Easley of Loranger, LA; 13 Grandchildren; 13 Great-Grandchildren; and numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Stokes officiating.

Burial followed at Bay Minette Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris Tolbert, Robert Gafford, Jr., Jamie Gafford, Otto Stokes, IV, Joe Johnson and Ken Daniels

Visitation was held Sunday, October 3, from 6PM until 9PM at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.

Mildred Louise Burkett

Mrs. Mildred Louise Burkett died Sunday, October 3, 2004 at the age of 79 at a local hospital.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Byrneville, FL and attended the Beulah Chapel Assembly of God church. She was Secretary/Treasurer of her church group, "Women's Ministries" for over 30 years. She was very active in church also teaching the nursery class for many years.

She is preceded in death by her Husband, O.C. Burkett and her Parents, Lawrence and Bama Watts.

Survivors include four Sons, Arnold Burkett and wife, Joyce, Terral Burkett and wife, Diane and Carmen Burkett, all of Byrneville and Daniel Burkett of Pensacola; three Daughters, Frances Nall and husband, Webb and Shyrell Gehman and husband, David, all of Atmore and Sonya Burkett of Byrneville; one Brother, Edward Watts of Byrneville; 13 Grandchildren; and 10 Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 06, at 2:00 P.M. at the Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church with Rev. Shelton Kingdig officiating.

Burial will follow at Beulah Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Nall, Keith Nall, Anthony Burkett, Craig Burkett, Shane Burkett and Michael Holley.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of her W.C. Class.

Visitation was held Tuesday, October 5, from 6:00 PM until 9:00PM at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Inez Kyser Riley

Ms. Inez Kyser Riley formerly of Atmore, died Sunday, October 3, 2004 at the age of 83 in Grayson, GA.

Funeral Services to be announced.

John David "J.D." Womack

Mr. John David "J.D." Womack died Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the age of 74 at his residence.

He was a farmer born in Goodway, AL on December 01, 1929 to the late Dock and Hattie Burt Womack.

Survivors include his Wife, Ercell Mason Womack of Huxford; one Son, David L. Womack and wife, Janet, of Atmore; two Daughters, Susan Holland of Fairhope, AL and Sandra Hendrix and husband, Bert, of Saraland, AL; three Sisters, Mattie Lou Stacey of Frisco City, Earlene Guy of Mobile and Mary Ann Hanks of Goodway; five Grandchildren, Kevin Holland, Hayley and Jana Hendrix and Shelly and Morgan Womack.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 2:30 p.m. at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Billy Hodgen officiating.

Burial followed at Huxford Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation was held Monday, October 4, from 6PM until 8PM at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Donations can be made to the Huxford Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Mr. J.D. Womack.

Naomi Elisabeth Salter

Mrs. Naomi Elisabeth Salter died Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the age of 83 at Monroe County Hospital.

She lived most of her life in Monroe County and was a member of the Zion Rest Primitive Baptist Church. She retired from Vanity Fair after 44 years of service. While there she received 10, 15 and 20 year awards from the company. She was preceded in death by her Son, Leonard Marvin Rigsby and a Daughter, Ruby Lee Rigsby.

Survivors include her Husband, David Earl Salter of Monroeville, AL; four Sons, Donnie Guin Rigsby and wife, Candice, of Bay Minette, Sam Lester Scott and wife, Linda, of Mexia, AL, Samuel Scott and wife, Sherrie, of Goodway, AL and Douglas Scott and wife, Nancy, of Butler, AL; three Daughters, Emma Louise Johnson and husband, Ralph of Chunculla, AL, Elizabeth Lassiter of Creola, AL and Kathy Miller and husband, Steve, of Walker, LA; two Step-Daughters, Glenda Salter Whatley and husband Jimmy, of Mexia, AL; Darlene Salter Powers and husband, Allen, of Montgomery; one Brother, John Samuel Shumock of Frisco City; four sisters, Buna Mae Purvis of Frisco City, Willonese Tranner of Turnerville, AL, Delores Bingham of Flomaton and Ruth Janak of Sacramento, CA; numerous Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 06, at 11:00 A.M. at the Zion Rest Primitive Baptist Church with Elder J.W. Andrews officiating.

Burial will follow at Zion Rest Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday, October 5, from 6:00 PM until 8:00PM at the Monroe Chapel Funeral Home.

Harold Malone

Dr. Harold Malone died Friday, September 17, 2004.

He was born in Missouri in 1918 to the late Oliver Lee Malone and Annie Catherine Malone. He attended Auburn University and graduated from Howard College of Samford University and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was ordained into the ministry in 1941 and pastored churches in Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, and Iowa. He worked as a pastoral counselor, hospital chaplain, and taught at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as a missionary with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in thirteen countries in Southeast Asia and Australia teaching seminary level pastoral care/counseling courses and Greek. He also conducted marriage and family seminars and held an interim pastorate in Stuttgart, Germany. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta and their Wednesday Morning Prayer Breakfast, Smith/Saunders/Beasley Sunday School Class, and the Senior Adult Bible Study Group

He is survived by his Wife, Bessie Malone; two Sons, Harold Lee Malone, Jr. and wife, Mary Beth and Jacob Oliver Malone and wife, Delores; grandchildren, Harold Lee Malone, III and wife Adriana, and their daughter, Alexandra; Wendell Wilson Malone; Elizabeth Malone Hoffman and husband, Barrett; two Sisters, Deeleta Goldsmith and husband Roscoe and Louise Malone; and three nieces.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, September 19, at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church of Augusta. Dr. Rodger Murchison and Dr. Grover Tyner officiated.

Visitation was held on Saturday, September 18, from 4-6 pm in the foyer of the Sanctuary Annex and after the memorial service in the rotunda of the sanctuary.

Memorials may be made to the Chapel Fund at the First Baptist Church of Augusta or to the Harold and Bessie Merriwether Malone Scholarship Fund of the International Mission Board, SBC; P.O. Box 6767; Richmond, VA 23230 or to the Mission Fund of the First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, TN.

Justine Elizabeth Odom

Mrs. Justine Elizabeth "Tennie" Odom, 86, passed away Monday, October 4, 2004 at a Florida hospital.

Mrs. Odom was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Century, FL since 1968. She was a volunteer at the Century Care Center, attended the Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church and was preceded in death by her Husband, Mr. Harvey Alphis Odom and three Sons, John Odom, Paul Schmolke and Harvey Odom.

Survivors include: four Sons, Carl Schmolke of Breaux Bridge, LA, David Calvin Odom, Marvin John Odom and Jim Pat "J.P." Odom, all of Century; three Daughters, Lois Burkett of Flomaton, Pearl Adele Macks and Justine Rose Wilson, both of Century, her Sister, Harriett Ory of Pascagoula, MS, 15 Grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 8 Great-Great-Grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Rome with Rev. Shelton Kindig officiating.

Burial will follow at Beulah Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation-will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2004 between 6:00 and 9:00 P.M. at the Eastside Chapel Cemetery Home.

Pallbearers will be Paul Odom, Calvin Odom, Bennie Odom, Greg Odom, Michael Odom and David Odom.

Eastside Chapel Funeral Home is in charge arrangements.
