Avery O. Cardwell,

Mr. Avery O. Cardwell, 86, of Atmore died Friday, February 27, 2004 in Bay Minette. He was a retired crewman on a tug boat. He was born in Monroe County on May 3, 1919 to the late Oliver T. and Lula Pursy Cardwel l He was preceded in death by his wife, Voncile Cardwell.

He is survived by two sons, Oliver and Etta Cardwell of Huxford and Billy and Katherine Kroll of Pensacola; a brother, D.C. Arrington of Bay Minette; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday, March 1 at 2 p.m. at Friendly Holiness Church in Poarch with Bro. Ray Ward officiating. Burial was at Poplar Springs Cemetery in Uriah.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc., was in charge of arrangements.

Dana Durand

Mr. Frederick Dana Durand, 90, of Atmore died Sunday, February 29, 2004, in Atmore.

He was born in Junction City, Kan. on February 16, 1914 to the late Frederick and Theresa Rizer Durand

He was a major in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of WWII during which he received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star, and he was a retired insurance broker.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lisenby Durand of Atmore; a son, Dana Durand of Lenexa, Kan.; two step-sons, Rob Parmley of Kansas City, Kan., Tim Parmley of Lemon, S.D. and five step-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 4 at First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of the flowers the family request donations be made to First United Methodist Church Organ Fund.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc.,is in charge of arrangements.

Eunice Moye Forte

Eunice Moye Forte, 87, of Atmore died Sunday, February 29, 2004 at Atmore Nursing Care Center after an extended illness.

Mrs. Forte was born December 13, 1916 near Wawbeek and was a lifelong resident of the Atmore Community. She was a member of Brooks Memorial Baptist church and the Esther Sunday School class which she had taught and she was also a member of Eastern Star for many years.

Mrs. Forte was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Forte; her parents, William A. and Nora Moye; five sisters, Bessie Sample, Lula Forte, Mary Sample, Nealy Carter and Edna Turner and two brothers, Allen and Johnny Moye.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Brooks Memorial Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 4 with the Rev. Mike Grindle and Dr. DeWitt Allen officiating. Mrs. Forte will lie in state at Brooks Memorial for one hour before the service.

Burial will be at Robinsonville Baptist Church cemetery.

In lieu of the flowers, donations to the IU Foundation of Alzheimers Research, Alabama Baptist Children's Home or the Ala. Cancer Society may be made.

Eugenia Wilson

Eugenia Hollingsworth Wilson, 79, a native of Bainbridge, Ga., and a resident of Atmore since 1946, died at her residence on Friday, February 27, 2004.

She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Ga., and was a retired teacher with the Escambia County Florida School System where she taught at Century, Davisville Elementary and Bratt Middle. She was a member of Atmore First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Atmore Garden Club and the Atmore Community Hospital Auxiliary. She served on the City of Atmore Arbor Committee.

She is survived by her son, David Lee and Mary Lynne Wilson of Boaz; two daughters, Linda Jean and Edward E. Crews of Pensacola and Susan Wilson and G. Barker Stein, Jr. of Fairhope; four grandchildren, Burton Ritchie, Mandy and Jeffrey Gillespie, Justin Hanks, Mary Page Wilson; two great-grandchildren, Brice and Jonathan Gillespie.

Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church Wednesday, March 3 at 10 a.m. Active pallbearers will be Giles Chapman, Trigger Lee, Darrell Copeland, Roger Wilson, Wayne Wilson, Gerald Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Sunday School Class of Atmore First United Methodist Church and the Atmore Community Hospital Auxiliary. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Organ Fund at First United Methodist Church or charity of choice.

Dorothy Lousie Hobbs Arrant

Dorothy Lousie Hobbs Arrant, 78, born in Robinsonville and a resident of Bay Minette, died Friday, March 5, 2004, at her residence.

Mrs. Arrant was a cafeteria worker at Bay Minette Elementary School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Arrant; six brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by one son, James Wayne and Linda Arrant of Crossroads, Ala.; one sister, Margaret E. Fountain of Robertsdale and one grandson, Jimmy Wayne Attant of Crossroads.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 8 at 10 a.m. at Norris Funeral Home.

Burial followed at the Little Rock Cemetery at Little Rock.

Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette was in charge of arrangements.

Lois Hanks Cooper

Mrs. Lois Hanks Cooper, 88, died Friday, March 5, 2004, at a Santa Rosa Hospital.

Mrs. Cooper was a native of Bratt and a resident of Byrneville for the past 65 years. She was a regular attendant of Magnolia Springs Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by by four sisters, Lillie Bell Ray, Dora Lee Killam, Ella Brown and Erma Powell; a half sister, Luverne Hanks and two half brothers, Leon Hanks and W.D. Blackmon.

She is survived by her son, Roy Alton and Sonny Cooper of Canoe; her daughter, Melda Cooper and Albert Torbich of Poplar Dell; five grandchildren, Roy Torbich, Ray Torbich, Ronald Torbich, Katie Torbich and Ashley Torbich; two great-grandchildren, Connie Cooper and Carol Cooper; step-brother, Preston Blackmon of Houston, Texas; step-sister, Shelby Mason of Atmore.

Funeral services were Monday, March 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Shelton Kindig and the Rev. Marcus Caraway officiating. Burial followed at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Thomas Rolin, Robert Gillman, David Smith, Roy Godwin, Romeo Coleman and Herman Armstrong. Honorary pallbearer was Curtis Smith.

Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edwin Eulene Creamer

Mrs. Edwin Eulene Creamer, 77, died Monday, March 8, 2004, in Atmore.

Mrs. Creamer was a native of Mexia, a former resident of Flomaton and a resident of Century for the past 52 years. She was a very active in community work.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda G. Turner of Century and Ann Ard of Enterprise; two grandchildren, Roger and Dianne Ard of Newman, Ga. and and Tim and Tammy Hawkins of Monroeville; two great-grandchildren, Madison Ard of Mobile and Alexis Hawkins of Monroeville.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 11 at 1 p.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Jesse Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Mexia Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 10 between 6 and 9 p.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
