Arthur Deese, Sr.

Nov. 5, 2003

Arthur Deese, Sr., 88, died Nov. 5, at his home. He was a former employee of Alabama Power Co. where he retired after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clementine Deese and his parents, Alee and Pearlie Deese.

He is survived by his two daughters, Thelma (Charlie) Jackson of Atmore and Ann Wiley of Monroeville.; two sons, David (Ruthie) Deese of Clinton, Md. and Arthur Deese, Jr., of Tuscaloosa; and one sister, Anna Merrill of Cantonment.

Services were held Monday at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Rev. Ywell K. Cunningham officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery in Atmore.

Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Lois Sanders

Dec. 6, 2003

Mrs. Mary Lois Sanders, 66, of Atmore, died Saturday in Pensacola. She was a seamstress with Vanity Fair Mills and was born in Uriah on March 2, 1937 to the late Arthur and the late Agnes Rolin Reed. She is preceded in death by her brother, Glenn Reed.

She is survived by one son, Tim Sanders of Foley; two sisters, Ann Maynard of Trenton, Mo., and Patsy Smith of Tallahassee, Fla.; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Lindsey Sanders.

Services were held Monday from the Johnson Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Peters officiating. Burial followed at Judson Cemetery in Poarch.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.

R.J. "Snuffy" Lane Jr.

Dec. 6, 2003

Mr. R.J. "Snuffy" Lane Jr., 88, died Saturday in Atmore. He was a native of San Antonio and a resident of Atmore for the past 35 years. He was an employee of Exxon/Mobile for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Imogene Lane of Atmore; five sons, R.J. Lane, III of Picayune, Miss., Donnie Griffey of Atmore, Roger Griffey of Atmore, Teddy Wayne Griffey of Mobile and Johnny Dale Griffey of Mobile; four daughters, Jodie Dickerson of Picayune, Betty Jean Hood of La Grange, Texas, Joann Durbin of Atmore and Pamela Brantley of Atmore; 24 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sunday at the Oak Hill Cemetery with Marilyn and Don Lawrence officiating.

Howard Marshall LaCoste Sr.

Dec. 5, 2003

Mr. Howard Marshall LaCoste Sr., 76, died Friday at a Pensacola hospital. He was a native of Tallahassee, a

former resident of San Antonio, Texas, and a resident of Century for the past five years. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict, and he was retired Civil Service from Lackland A.F.B. He attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, mother of his children, Mildred LaCoste.

He is survived by his wife, Edna B. LaCoste of Century; his son, Howard M. LaCoste Jr., of San Antonio; three stepsons, Paul Fredrick Findley, III, of Pascagoula, Miss., Danny Findley of Century and David Findley of Flomaton; his daughter, Linda Chraniuk of San Antonio; two brothers, Melvin LaCoste of Pace and Ronnie LaCoste of Cantonment; two sisters, Elsie Alred of Century and Patricia Gibson of Ponchtupla, La.; a sister-in-law, Etta Mae LaCoste of Pensacola; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. James Hughes and Rev. Timothy LaCoste officiating. Burial will take place at Mission Park South Cemetery in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Jacob Harold Lowrey

Dec. 4, 2003

Rev. Jacob Harold Lowrey, 84, died Thursday at a Santa Rosa County Hospital. He attended the Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church and was a native of Canoe, but spent most of his life in Century. He was an ordained minister of Assemblies of God for 53 years and pastored at churches in Florida and Alabama. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Joyce Martin.

He is survived by his wife, Mamie Boutwell Lowrey of Century; three daughters, Barbara Jean Jernigan of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Bonnie Jeanice Pettis of Dothan and Brenda Jane Sellers of Brewton; two brothers, J.T. Lowrey of Cottage Hill and Melvin Wayne Lowrey of Jay; four sisters, Luverne Graham of Molino, Annie Laura Hodges of Molino, Gloria Nell Morris of Georgia and Ruby Jewel Conlon of Miami; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday at the Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church with Rev. Shelton Kindig and Rev. Harold Pettis officiating. Burial followed at Beulah Chapel Cemetery.

Samuel T. Lassic

Dec. 3, 2003

Mr. Samuel T. Lassic, 83, of Atmore, died Wednesday at Atmore Community Hospital. He was a native of Lowndes County and a resident of Atmore for many years. He was a veteran of WWII and worked as a laborer in the refrigerator/air conditioner business. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Annie Lassic and his wife, Gustova Allen Lassic.

He is survived by one son, Michael Lassic, of Detroit and two grandsons, Jeremy and DeCorey Lassic, also of Detroit.

Services were held Tuesday at Turner Funeral Chapel with Bishop Willie L. Williams officiating. Burial followed at Stallworth Cemetery.

Charlotte Mae Pickens, 74, of Atmore died Tuesday at her home.

Myrtle Estelle Pritchett

Dec. 15, 2003

Myrtle Estelle Pritchett, 91, of Century died Sunday in the Century Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and the daughter of R.F. and Lucy Pritchett.

She is survived by one brother, W.S. Sam Pritchett of Century and a sister, Edna White of Flomaton.

Graveside services were held Tuesday at Green Acres Cemetery in Brewton.

Nelline Sanders Steele

Dec. 15, 2003

Nelline Sanders Steele, 37, of Semmes died Monday in Mobile. Born in Escambia County, Ala., on March 5, 1966 to Marvin L. and Rita Berry Sanders, she was a paralegal in the office of Mark Ulmer. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a graduate of Ernest Ward High School.

She is survived by her parents, Marvin L. and Rita Berry Sanders of Bratt; one brother, Eric Sanders of Bell, Fla.; grandmother, Lou Ada Henderson of Atmore. She is the former wife of Ronnie Earl Steele.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. O.B. Richardson and Rev. Billy Randolph officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Berry, Casey Berry, Tim White, Mike Steele, Bobby Burges and Randy Wiscaver. Honorary pallbearer is Tony Hadley.

Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
