Maston M. Mims, Sr.

December 14, 2002

Funeral services for Maston M. Mims, Sr. were held on Dec. 17, 2002 at the Poplar Springs Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Grindle and Rev. Rhett Ellis officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

A native of Monroe County and a life-long resident of Uriah, he attended J.U. Blacksher High School in Uriah and was a farmer, businessman, church leader, civic leader and former member of the Alabama Legislature, having served in the Alabama House of Representatives and the Alabama Senate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff C. and Carrye Mims of Uriah, Jeff Carter Mims of Mobile and Joe Frank Mims of Uriah.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jorette Mims of Uriah; three sons, Joe Frank Mims II and Maston M. Mims, Jr., both of Uriah, and Tom Riley Mims of Seminole; three brothers, David D. Mims II of Monroeville, Lambert C. Mims of Mobile and Bibb G. Mims of Uriah; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville was in charge of arrangements.

Mattie Lou Barth

December 16, 2002

Graveside services for Mattie Lou Barth were held on Dec. 17, 2002 at the Godwin Cemetery, with Brother Theron Collinsworth officiating.

Born on April 19, 1926 in McDavid to the late Henry Harvey and Annie Graden Hanks Ashcraft, she was a homemaker. She died on Dec. 16, 2002 in Pensacola.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Barth of Pensacola; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia A. and William L. Phillips of Tyron, Ga.; a brother and sister-in-law, Henry H. and Maggie Ashcraft of Bratt; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Laurie and Jason Byars of Tyrone, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, Mckenzie and Cameron Byars, both of Tyrone, Ga.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Cecil Wilson Boothe

December 15, 2002

Funeral services for Cecil Wilson Boothe, 83, were held on Dec. 17, 2002 at the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Mexia Cemetery in Mexia, Ala.

A long-time resident of Monroe County, he was a farmer who spend his last years in McCullough. He died on Dec. 15, 2002 at his residence.

He is survived by his second wife, Nell Boothe of McCullough; five sons and their wives, Thomas C. Boothe of Oklahoma City, Okla., Richard W. and Paulette Boothe of Roanoke, Va., David P. and Yvonne Boothe of Anniston, and Dan and Beth Boothe and Jack S. and Susan Boothe, all of Excel; a stepdaughter, Sandra Hayles and friend Ramone of Winder, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Johnson Funeral Home of Monroeville was in charge of arrangements.

Arnold J. Hall

February 16, 2003

Graveside services for Arnold J. Hall, 93, of Atmore, were held on Feb. 18 at the Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Theron Collingsworth officiating.

He was retired from the Pensacola Naval Air Station. He is survived by one son, A. J. Hall of Oak Grove; one daughter, Irma Beasley of Bratt; one brother, Hoover Hall of Oak Grove; three grandchildren, Wanda Hall, Randy Hall, and Karen Mattox; and four great-grandchildren.

Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. was in charge of all arrangements.

Earnest David Brown

June 5, 2003

Earnest David Brown, 64, of Bay Minette, died Thursday at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

He was a native of Stockton and a resident of Bay Minette for many years. He was a domestic homemaker and attended school in Baldwin County.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, William M. Brown Jr., Thomas Earl Brown, George Hamilton Brown and Willie James Brown; and his parents, William Malcon Brown, Sr., and Reaber Brown.

He is survived by 10 brothers, Rev. Jasper Lee and wife Carolyn Brown of Atmore, James Woodrow and wife Jennifer Brown of Atmore, Robert Lee and wife Sandra Brown of Bay Minette, Claude and wife Betty Jean Brown of Bay Minette, Elmore Lee and wife Linda Brown of Bay Minette, Lovess Brown of Rochester, NY, Cleland and wife Barbara Brown of Rochester, NY, Lester Brown of Rochester, NY, Spencer Ray and wife Adell Brown of New Orleans, and Chester and wife Delois Brown of Mobile; five sisters, Christine and husband Johnnie Taylor, Guestine and husband Esau Stevens, Reaber Brown, Bernadetta and husband William Taylor, all of Bay Minette, and Roise Lee Brown of Butler County.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bay Minette. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Memorial Gardens in Bay Minette.

Pallbearers were friends and family members.

Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

J. Z. Murphy

June 8, 2003

J. Z. Murphy, 86, of Atmore, died Sunday in Bay Minette.

A native of Uriah, he was a resident of Atmore for the past ten years. He was a Son of the Confederacy and attended Atmore Church.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Steve Richard Murphy and Keith Jeffery Murphy; two wives, Angie Farley Murphy and Bertha Heaton Murphy; and a stepdaughter, Ruby Jean Booker.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Murphy of Atmore; his daughter, Claudette M. and husband Charles Clinton of Rexburg, Idaho; two stepsons, Otis and wife Shirley Myers of San Antonio, Texas and Charles Dewayne Myers of Stapleton; five stepdaughters, Deborah Lynn and husband John Bange of Stapleton, Pam Kirchharr of Bay Minette, Daisy Coleman of Perdido, Betty Jo Rider of White House Fork, and Judy Barr of Bay Minette; his sister, Dollie and husband Rex McCellan of Pensacola, Fla.,; 24 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with President Bill Beech officiating.

Burial followed at Semirah Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers were Heath Clinton, John range, Donald Booker, Amos Turner, andy Akins, and Dennis Wiggins.

Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ercell McGhee Rodgers

June 5, 2003

Mrs. Ercell McGhee Rodgers, 64, of Atmore, died Thursday at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

A native of Jonestown, Miss. she was a resident of Atmore for most of her life. She graduated from Escambia County Training School in 1959 and attended Alabama State University for two years. She was a homemaker and a member of Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church where she served as the church secretary for over 25 years.

She was also Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School Department and a matron. She was a member of the Ladies of Leisure of Atmore.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Andrew T. and Mrs. Catherine McGhee; a sister, Vernice McGhee; and a brother, William McGhee.

She is survived by her husband, Aaron Rodgers of Atmore; two daughters, Roslanda and husband Micheal Henderson of Atmore and Mechelle McReynolds of Atmore; three sons, David and wife Angela Ephraim, Jr. of Pueblo, Colo., Andrew and wife Beverly Rodgers of Atmore, and Scottie Rodgers of Indianapolis; one brother, Dr. Robert McGhee of Brooklyn, NY.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Rev. Joe L. Hayes officiating. Burial followed at Lucious Cemetery in Atmore.

Pallbearers were friends of the family. Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Jeannie Horne Singleton

June 6, 2003

Jeannie Horne Singleton, 52, of Atmore, died Friday.

She was a native of Atmore and a resident of Atmore since 1994. She attended Atmore Church of the Nazarene and was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Betty Horne.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley E. Singleton of Atmore; her son, Donald Ellis of Atmore; a stepson, Stan Singleton, Jr. of Uriah; a daughter, Amanda Pitcher of Pensacola; a stepdaughter, JoAnn Singleton of Uriah; a sister, Donna Lynn Horne of Fairhope; a nephew, Frank Amerson of Fairhope; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held 10 a.m. June 9 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Nora Jacobs officiating. Burial followed at Panola Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Stanley Singleton, Sr., Stan Singleton Jr.; Don Ellis, Jr., David Pitcher, Mike Ward, Mike Plant and Pete Plant.

All arrangements were handled by Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
