Annie Jewel Simpson, 88, of Pinson died Aug. 1, 2004, in Pinson. She was born Aug. 19, 1915, in Georgia.

Simpson is survived by children, Martha Roberts, Sandra Waldrop, Wayne, Larry Ronald and Donald Patterson; 19 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and brothers, Wayron and Freeman Foster.

Service was Aug. 3 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel with the Rev. Stan Pruitt and the Rev. Tom Minor presiding. Burial followed in Pinelawn Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

DOLORES MARIE ADNEY

Retired interior designer

Dolores Marie Adney, 88, of Shelby died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at a local hospital. She was born Sept. 1, 1916, in LaCrosse, Wis., and fought an eight-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was a retired interior designer in Las Vegas and worked as a hospital volunteer at Shelby Baptist Medical Center for 12 years.

She is survived by two sons, Pete and Michael Adney; two daughters, Sharon and Judy; son-in-law, Mitchell; grandchildren, Christina, David, Debbie, Chip, Lisa, Kim, Daniel, Betsy and Amie; great-grandchildren, Allison, Brooke, Mitchell, Zachary, Amber and Teddy; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service was Nov. 16 at Pinelawn Gardens, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

JIMMY ALVIN ALDRICH

U.S. Army veteran

Jimmy Alvin Aldrich, 54, of Alabaster died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004. Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., he served in the U.S. Army for 24 years and worked for CSX Railroad before retiring in 2002. He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Deyoung Aldrich; his brothers, Jack Aldrich and Dan Aldrich.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry; sons, Shawn Aldrich of Arizona and Neal (Sandy) Cater of Morris, Ala.; daughters, Shannon (Dennis) Turbyfill of Tennessee, Jenney (Wesley) Smitherman of Montevallo and Christy (Robert) Feenker of Argo; his father, Charles (Donna) Aldrich; his brother, Jerry Aldrich; and his sister, Kristian (James) Patch, all of Grand Rapids, Mich.

Service was Nov. 16 at Maylene Pentecostal Lighthouse Church, Charter Funeral Home directing.

ALFRED F. ALVERSON

Grandfather of 18

Alfred F. Alverson, 83, of Westover died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at a local nursing home. He was born Dec. 8, 1920, in Shelby County.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Alverson; children, Sharon (Bob) McSwain, Wade (Barbara) Alverson, June (Clyde) Burroughs and Terry (Melanie) Alverson; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tom and Leonard Alverson; three sisters, Mae Kelley, Opal Williams and Martha Averett; one step-sister, Geralee Kelley; and two step-brothers, Marvin Muse and Hershal Muse.

Service was Nov. 16 at Union United Methodist Church, the Revs. Jonathan Todd and Billy Coleman presiding. Burial followed in Union Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

JOHN HOMER BURKE

Longtime Pelham resident

John Homer Burke, 53, of Pelham died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at home. He was born Sept. 30, 1953, in Birmingham. He was a longtime resident of Pelham and a longtime employee of Chicago Bridge and Iron as well as Acton Plumbing.

He is survived by his son, John S. Burke; his sisters, Phyllis (Tim) Foster and Anita (Mike) Hardin; his brothers, Frank (Leta) Burke, Jerome (Edna) Burke, Tommy (Gwen) Burke, Michael (Celisia) Burke and Clarence (Sharon) Burke; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Service was Nov. 17 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel, the Rev. Mike Hardin presiding. Burial followed at Wilsonville City Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

LANNY T. CLEMENTS JR.

Birmingham resident

Lanny T. Clements Jr., 34, of Birmingham died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, in Birmingham.

He is survived by his mother and caretaker, Carol Cain in Birmingham; his father, Lanny T. (Sara) Clements Sr. of Birmingham; one brother, Kyle Clements; two step-sisters, Heather Dillon and Courtney Patterson; a grandmother, Ruth Averyt of Hueytown; his aunt and uncle, Fred and Debbie Chapple of Maylene; his uncle, Lamar Averyt of Hueytown; and his cousins, Vickie and Shannyn.

Service was Nov. 16 in Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo with burial in Kinard Cemetery in West Blocton, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

SIDNEY R. "BUSTER" DAVIS

Father of four

Sidney R. "Buster" Davis, 54, of Columbiana died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born April 11, 1950, in Columbiana.

He is survived by his children, Becky Walton of Manchester, Ind., Cindy Thein of Jemison, Tammy Brown of Montevallo and Melody Hamilton of Childersburg; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Frances Scoggins and Faye Partridge of Calera.

Service was Nov. 12 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel with burial following at Columbiana City Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

DAVID EARL KROMER

Montevallo native

David Earl Kromer, 49, a native of Montevallo, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Kromer, and mother, Mary Price Kromer.

He is survived by his wife, April Black Kromer; sons, David Heath (Kristi) Kromer, Jerrod (Susan) Kromer, Chris Black, Kelly Kromer and Kourtney Kromer, all of Montevallo; grandchildren, Daphnie Kromer and Lindsey Marshall; his brother, Joseph Wayne (Alicia) Harris of Prattville; sisters, Debbie Sweat of Montevallo and Carol (Jeff) Russell of McCalla.

Service was private with Charter Funeral Home directing.

REV. MARVIN O. SPRY

Pastor

The Rev. Marvin O. Spry, 76, of Birmingham died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004. He was born April 26, 1928, to Granville H. Spry and Beulah Fletcher of Cooleemee, N.C. He was a graduate of George Peabody College for Teachers where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1949 and his master's degree in 1953 in music education. He served as minister of music at First Baptist in Clinton, N.C., from 1953 to 1955, at First Baptist in Ocala, Fla., from 1955-1963, at Dawson Memorial Baptist in Homewood from 1963-1978, at Parker Memorial Baptist in Anniston from 1978-1986. He served as associate pastor there from 1986 to 1990 when he retired. From 1990-98, he ministered as interim pastor in several churches and came out of retirement in 1998 to serve as minister to senior adults and minister of music at Shades Crest Baptist in Bluff Park, from which he retired in 2002. He also served as short-term missionary to Jamaica in 1963 and Honduras in 1994. He was married for 52 years to the former Colleen Nelson, who preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 2004.

He is survived by one daughter, Chari Spry (Ben) Fernambucq; two sons, Dell (Susan) Spry and Mark Spry; six grandchildren, Christopher, Drew and Michael Fernambucq, Rachel and Steven Spry and Randi Spry Bogan.

Service was Nov. 12 at Dawson Memorial Baptist in Homewood followed by graveside service and burial at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Charter Funeral Home directing.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Dawson Memorial RENEW Fund or Music Ministry, Parker Memorial Restoring God's House Fund or Hope Hospice.

JOSHUA PAUL STONE

Montevallo resident

Joshua Paul Stone, 22, of Montevallo died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, in Alabaster.

He is survived by his mother, Pamela Clark Stone of Montevallo; his father, William E. Stone Sr. of Montevallo; his sister, Amy (Chuck) Staubitz of California; his half sister, Sheena Hedgepath of Montevallo; his brother, William E. (Kelly) Stone Jr. of Georgia; his grandfather, Ron Smith of Montevallo; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Service was Nov. 14 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, the Rev. David Grisham presiding. Burial followed in Salem Cemetery in Calera, Rockco's directing.
