SHIRLEY DEAN CARDONE

Shirley Dean Cardone, 71, of Montevallo died July 28, 2004 at her residence after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents Clay M. and Marie Lucas.

Cardone was a member of University Baptist Church in Montevallo, was a graduate of Montevallo High School and the University of Montevallo and was a retired school teacher.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph M. Cardone (51 years) of Montevallo, one daughter, D'Anderea (Tim) O'Hara; sons, Robert Vince (Vicki), Daniel Joseph and Clay Michael (Debbie) Cardone; one sister, Joyce Bridges of Montevallo; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend Sylvia.

Graveside service was July 31 at Montevallo Cemetery with the Rev. Robin Norsworthy presiding, Rockco Funeral Home, Montevallo directing.

MARTHA G. CHAMBLEE

Montevallo resident

Martha G. Chamblee, 57, of Montevallo died July 27, 2004, in Birmingham. She is survived by her daughter, Lyn; one son, Robert; one brother, Foster Eugene Gibson (Linda) of Spartanburg, S.C.; one niece, Mary Frances; numerous special friends and family including Harold Dendy, Lisa Hollis, Faye and Edsell Grizzell.

Service was July 31 at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo with the Rev. Don Jeffer and the Rev. Guy Moore presiding. Burial was in Ryans Cemetery in Maylene. Rockco Funeral Home, Montevallo, directing.

THOMAS W. CLARK

Worked for railroad 40 years

Thomas W. Clark, 71, of Calera died July 27, 2004. He was born Nov. 5, 1932 in Walker County. He worked for the L & N Railroad/CSX for 40 years. He was a member of Jemison First Baptist Church and a 10-year Army veteran. Clark is survived by his wife, Mamie Carol Clark; children, Tony (Cindy) Means, Connie Long, Danny (Lisa) Clark; grandchildren, Brian Hayes, Christopher Long, Wesson Clark, Tyler Means and Grace Means.

Service was July 30 at Jemison First Baptist Church with the Rev. Chuck Bass presiding. Burial followed in Shelby Memory Gardens, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

NANNIE MAE HARRELL

Calera resident

Nannie Mae Harrell, 97, of Calera died Friday, July 30, 2004, in Alabaster. She was a homemaker and a member of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Calera. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club of Calera. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Harrell Sr., and her stepson, James Earl Harrell Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Tillman) Davis of Montevallo; her grandchildren, Rene (James S.) Davis Day and Rhonda Davis; her step-grandchildren, Joe and Ronnie Harrell; her great-grandchildren, Abby Day and Mary Afton Day; her step-great-grandchildren, Christy and Angela Harrell; and a host of nieces and nephews. Service was Aug. 1 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, Brother Don Graham presiding. Burial followed in Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, Rockco's directing. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Calera Senior Center.

ANNIE RUTH HUFF

Lifelong Shelby County resident

Annie Ruth Huff, 44, of Alabaster died July 30, 2004. She was a lifelong resident of Shelby County. Huff is survived by children, Kareem (Erica) Huff, Jamel Hall, O'Brain Huff, Dvery Huff, Shannon Huff and Desirea Huff; devoted sisters and brothers, Annie Bivins, Patricia Dowdell and John (Virginia) Huff.

A service of memory will be Saturday, Aug. 7 at Liberty Baptist Church in Alabaster with Pastor Akeem Simmons presiding. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery, Westside Funeral Home directing.

MELVA GRUBBS WELDON ELLISON

Calera resident

Melva Grubbs Weldon Ellison, 83, of Calera, died July 26, 2004 in a local hospital. She was born March 26, 1921 and was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Josie Grubbs, her children's father, W.H. Weldon and a great-grandchild, Dallas Weldon. She lived in Calera and Chelsea and worked for several years as a nurses' aid.

Ellison is survived by her husband, Louis Ellison; sons, Billy (Barbara) and Charles "Bo" (Barbara Nell); daughter, Laura (Eddy) Brasher, Marcy (Grady) Gwin; stepchildren, Wayne Ellison, Sharon (Buddy ) Warren; 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Service was July 29 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Edmonson and Dr. Hal Warren presiding. Burial followed in Pinelawn Gardens with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directed.

ELSIE DAVENPORT HERRICK

Formerly of Sterrett

Elsie Davenport Herrick, 93, of New Iberia, La., died Aug. 2, 2004. She was formerly of Sterrett. Herrick was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Herrick, parents, Walter and Bernice Davenport; and two sisters, Janie Graves and Marie Rose.

She is survived by a daughter, Alvia Smith Gonzales of New Iberia, La.; three stepdaughters; brothers, Walter and Wilard Davenport; sisters, Elnor Smith, Bertha Greer; and numerous grandchildren. Service was Aug. 5 at Mt. Tabor Methodist Church with burial in Mt. Tabor Methodist Church Cemetery. Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directed.

BAYLEE KATE HALLMAN

Infant Baylee Kate Hallman died July 30, 2004.

She is survived by her parents, Chase and Kayla Hallman; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Hallman, David Brasher and Jackie Brasher; aunts, Amanda Snipes, Keondra O'Neil; and uncles, Jesse Brasher and Skyler Hallman.

Graveside service was Aug. 3 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Chelsea, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

JEFF T. JOHNSON

Chelsea native

Jeff T. Johnson, 74, a Chelsea native, died Friday, July 30, 2004, in Gulf Breeze, Fla., following a long battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 12, 1929, to Jefferson Thomas Johnson and Ethel Brasher Johnson. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he worked at Hayes Aircraft as a mechanic. Later, he worked as a barber and ran his own shop in the Woodlawn area for 40 years.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Almon Johnson of Tallahassee, Fla., and a sister, Bernell Holcomb of Chelsea.

He is survived by a son, Jeffery Bruce (Penny) Johnson of Warrenton, Va.; a daughter, LeeAnne Skewes of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; three sisters, Maurie Triplett and Karol Chesser of Huntsville and Winona (Boyce) Price of Sanford, N.C.; five grandchildren, Jessica, Graham and Russell Johnson of Warrenton, Va., and Nick and Andrew Skewes of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Service was Aug. 2 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel with burial following at Mt. Signal Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

FANNIE LOUISE MARTIN

Harpersville resident

Fannie Louise Martin, 80, of Harpersville died recently.

She is survived by two sisters, Doris Milam of Harpersville and Mae Carter of Oxford; one brother, Doug Looney of Mobile; and a host of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Service was July 29 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel in Columbiana with the Rev. Don Morris and the Rev. William Rayfield presiding. Burial followed in Arkwright Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

WILLIAM "BILLY" H. SCHROEDER

Grandfather of six

William "Billy" H. Schroeder, 88, of Wetumpka died Saturday, July 31, 2004, in a local nursing home. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Schroeder; one son, William "Bill" M. (Deegee) Schroeder Sr.; one daughter, Jan Schroeder (Warren) Grant; three brothers, Paul Schroeder, Gene Schroeder and Franklin Schroeder; three sisters, Lillie Murrell, Isabell Schroeder and Hazel Wiles; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Service was Aug. 3 at the First United Methodist Church of Wetumpka, the Rev. Jim Reece presiding. Burial followed in Wetumpka City Cemetery, Gassett Funeral Home directing.

RESSIE V. SMITH

Calera resident

Ressie V. Smith, 90, of Calera died July 26, 2004, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. She was born in Tuscaloosa on Jan. 25, 1914 and worked as a sales clerk. Smith is survived by two sons, William H. Smith of Billingsley and Larry G. Smith of Oakland, Calif.; one daughter, Ernestine Moon of Calera; one sister, Lela Powell; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was July 29 with the Rev. John (Pete) Fuller presiding. Burial was in Salem Cemetery in Calera, Martin Funeral Home Inc. in Clanton directing.
