Glenn D. Bragg
Former Kenai resident Glenn D. Bragg died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Elmendorf Air Force Base Hospital in Anchorage. He was 78.
Services are pending with Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
Dixine Lee Phillips
Ninilchik resident Dixine Lee Phillips died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Central Peninsula General Hospital. She was 59.
Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. today at the Assembly of God Church in Ninilchik. Pastor Jim Kruse will officiate. A reception will follow the memorial service at the Ninilchik Senior Center.
Mrs. Phillips was born Nov. 7, 1941, in St. Mary's, Idaho. She was raised and educated through high school there. She moved to Alaska in 1963, residing in Juneau. In 1964, she moved to Anchorage and was a survivor of the earthquake. She moved to Seward in 1972 and to Ninilchik in 1975.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Ninilchik. Her hobbies and special interests included sewing, singing hymns and reading the Bible.
"Throughout her many years of sickness and trials, she was always concerned for the welfare of her friends and family more than herself. She enjoyed her grandchildren and they made her suffering bearable. The love and time spent with her grandchildren enriched and prolonged her life up until the end, " her family said. "She will always be remembered most for her role as a loving wife and mother."
Mrs. Phillips is survived by her husband of 29 years, Arnold Phillips; daughters and sons-in-law Ronda and Cheyne Blough and Randi and Daniel Presley; grandchildren Lee, Daulton, Ethan, Ashley and Wesley Blough and Caley Presley; and stepchildren, Steven, Dave, Jeanni and Dan Phillips and their extended families.
The family wishes donations be made to the Ninilchik Ambulance Association, General Delivery, Ninilchik, AK 99639 for its many successful efforts over the years in prolonging her life.

Charles Joseph Varano
Nikiski resident Charles "Charlie" Joseph Varano died at his home on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001. He was 69.
A visitation will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. A memorial service and wake will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Kenai. His family will spread his ashes along Wik Lake.
Mr. Varano was born July 7, 1932, in Shamokin, Penn. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Varano moved to Alaska in 1986 and lived in Nikiski. He worked for Peak Oilfield Services, VECO and APC. He was a member of the Catholic faith. Mr. Varano also was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing and cooking.
Mr. Varano is survived by his daughters Gay Varano, Mary Collandra and Lisa Varano; brother, Al Varano; sisters Helen Bogush, Gloria Scrow and Dorothy Schickley; grandchildren Danielle, Jessica, Courtney, Cody, Tara and Austin; and great-grandchildren Karah and Brendon.

Faith Anne Clark
Faith Anne (Bailey) Clark died Sunday, July 1, 2001, in Show Low, Ariz. She was 62.
In accordance with her request, there were no services, and her ashes, along with those of her beloved dogs Chin and Kingtze, were scattered on the Kenai Peninsula.
Ms. Clark was born Aug. 16, 1938, in Lincoln, Maine, to Lee and Mildred S. Bailey. She graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School in 1955. The family moved to the southwest in 1955. Faith moved to Kenai in November 1967, moving back to Arizona in the early 1990s.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Ms. Clark is survived by her husband, Paul Clark; daughter Molly Anne (Christenson) Williamson of Arizona; daughter and son-in-law Peggy Jo (Christenson) and Keith Cartwright of New Mexico; son and daughter-in-law Eric and Pam Christenson of Arizona; brother Tim Bailey of Oregon; sister Peggy Brennan of Kenai; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three nieces; three nephews; two great-nieces; four great nephews; and numerous friends in Maine, Arizona and Alaska.
Richard Lowell "Dick" Rumfelt
Soldotna resident Richard Lowell "Dick" Rumfelt died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at his home. He was 69.
Friends will join to celebrate Mr. Rumfelt's life at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sport Lake cabin on Moser Street, next to the Sport Lake Boat Launch. His ashes will be buried in Spruce Grove Memorial Park cemetery in Kasilof.
Mr. Rumfelt was born Jan. 11, 1932, in Geneseo, N.Y. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He moved to Alaska in 1951, living in the Anchorage area. In 1962, he moved to the Kenai-Soldotna area. He worked as a self-employed building contractor.
Mr. Rumfelt enjoyed fishing, hunting, auto mechanics, playing cards and visiting with friends.
"Dick was a person so many people relied on and loved. He was a 'grouchy' man with a kind heart. He could build or make anything work. Dick's family and friends will truly miss him, " his friends said.
Mr. Rumfelt was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Viola; and brothers Franklin and Ralph.
He is survived by his sisters, Norma Rumfelt and Dora Thompson of New York, and his many friends.

Brett Matthew Milos
Nikiski resident Brett Matthew Milos died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, on the job site at White's Crossing near Willow from an accidental electrocution. He was 18.
Memorial services will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Bingo Hall in Kenai. Lloyd Little will officiate.
Mr. Milos was born Oct. 25, 1982, in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. He grew up in British Columbia, Canada, and moved to Nikiski in March 1998.
He lived in Nikiski for two years and in Kenai for a year. He worked for Cook Inlet Processing in Nikiski in 1999, Little Caesar's in Big Kmart in Kenai in 2000. In 2001, he worked for Snug Harbor Seafoods on Kalifornsky Beach Road and then for Quality Asphalt Paving Co. in Soldotna and Willow.
He received an MVP award in his first year of junior hockey. He loved animals, hockey, mechanics, driving, tending to his house plants, snowboarding, most extreme sports and hanging out with his friends.
His family said, "Brett was a very loving young man, kind and compassionate, thoughtful and generous. His life on his own was just beginning. Brett was excited about his future and was working toward goals made for himself. He was truly a very special young man that everyone was extremely proud of and loved more than words could ever express. All who knew him will never forget him. He lives in our hearts and memories."
Mr. Milos is survived by his father and stepmother Stan and Ady Milos of Nikiski; mother and stepfather Terry Milos and Mike Sheehan of British Columbia; brother Travis Milos of Whitehorse; stepbrothers Shawn Corn of Nikiski and T.J. Sheehan of British Columbia; stepsister and brother-in-law, Candy and Jaime Rodriguez of Nikiski; aunts D.J. Borek and Cheryl Harris both of California, Maryann Ojurovich and Barb Milos of Washington and Bonnie Koerber of Kenai; uncles Matt Borek and Rock Novak of California; cousins Brooke Piccolo (Koerber), Julianne Koerber and Allen Koerber of Kenai and Matthew and Cristina Borek of California; grandparents Matt and Pat Borek of California and Donna Myers of Nikiski; and his girlfriend.

Beverly A. Gatchell
Soldotna resident Beverly A. Gatchell died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Ill. She was 61.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. She was buried at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, Ill.
Mrs. Gatchell was born in Mattoon on May 25, 1940, to Charles and Mary Jane (Cline) Harriss.
She married Dennis Gatchell on April 17, 1980.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Gatchell is survived by her husband, Dennis Gatchell, of Soldotna; son and daughter-in-law, Geoffrey and Kelly Clark, of Soldotna; daughter and son-in-law, Dawna and Dennis Ross of Logansport, Ind.; daughter Deanna Woods and fiance, Tony Greer, of Rapid City, Mich.; and five grandchildren.

Tammy Lynn Kremer
Anchorage resident Tammy Lynn Kremer died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage. She was 21.
A visitation will be held Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at Anchorage Baptist Temple. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. with Dr. Jerry Prevo officiating. Burial will follow at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Robert G. Kremer, Daniel D. Kremer, Robert H. Kremer, Chris Carter, Ryan Smith and friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.
Ms. Kremer was born Oct. 8, 1979, in Cocoa, Fla. She moved to Alaska in April 1980. She graduated from the Anchorage Christian High School in May 1999 and worked at the Muldoon Christian Learning Center from September 1999 until June 11, 2001.
She was a member of the Anchorage Baptist Temple and participated in Christian Youth in Action as a summer missionary for the last five years. She also was the second-grade boys' Sunday school teacher and a counselor at Camp Good News. She enjoyed music, sports, fishing, hunting and tae kwan do.
Her family said, "Tammy had a servant's heart and a real love for people."
Ms. Kremer is survived by her parents, Robert G. and Betty K. Kremer; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Betsy Kremer; brother, Robert H. Kremer; sisters Penny Kremer and Barbara Wooten; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Mike Harp; maternal grandfather, J. Howard Key; many aunts and uncles; and many friends on the Kenai Peninsula from her frequent fishing trips here.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to the Child Evangelism Fellowship, 2820 Boniface Parkway, Suite B, Anchorage, AK 99504.

Solvieg 'Sandy' Olson
Memorial services for Homer resident Solvieg "Sandy" will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at American Legion Post No. 20 in Kenai at 2 p.m.
Ms. Olson died at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001. She was 83.
Arrangements were made by the Homer Funeral Home.
Clifford C. Porter
Longtime Alaska resident Clifford C. Porter died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at home surrounded by his family near Kenai. He was 74.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Carol Boch Hall in Ninilchik. Pastor Keith Lauwers will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery.
Mr. Porter was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Baudette, Minn. In November 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in June 1946. He moved to Alaska in 1953 and lived in Kenai, Anchorage and Ninilchik. He worked for the Laborers Local No. 341 and retired from there in 1987.
He was a Protestant and enjoyed fishing and hunting. His family loved him and will miss him dearly, his family said.
Mr. Porter is survived by his wife of 27 years, Betty of Kenai; children, Carmen Couch of La Pine, Ore., Karen Hartsock of Cobden, Ill., Christine Broadway of Paducah, Ky., Robert Porter of Vancouver, Wash., Sheila Barce of Beaverton, Ore., Tom Tibbs of Anchorage, Cindy Tulloch of Gig Harbor, Wash., Brian Tibbs of Ninilchik and Don Tibbs of Anchorage; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters.

Fred H. McAlmond
Ninilchik resident Fred H. McAlmond died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. He was 83.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at noon today at his home in Ninilchik.
Mr. McAlmond was born March 20, 1918, in Calexaco, Calif. He moved to Alaska in 1974, residing in North Pole. There, he worked for C-and-H Builders for a short time before he and his wife, Verda, started McAlmond Insulation. They moved to Anchorage and continued their business. They sold the business and retired in 1984, and then moved to Ninilchik.
Mr. McAlmond enjoyed gardening, traveling, making his friends and family laugh and was a master at telling risque stories.
"The last 33 years I've spent with Fred have been absolutely beautiful. He was one in a million, " his wife said. "I feel very fortunate to have been able to be part of his life."
Mr. McAlmond is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
