Kyle Thomas Franks

Fairbanks resident, Dr. Kyle T. Franks, died Thursday, December 6th, 2001 at the Fairbanks Memorial hospital at the age of 70.
He had fought a valiant battle with cancer but succumbed to it in the end.
Kyle was born March 22, 1931 in Wichita Falls, TX to Henry and Mary Franks.
Kyle taught at the Denali Elementary School for 25 years.
He then became involved in the long distance education program at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks.
Kyle was a lifelong student, first earning a music degree then continuing on to receive his doctorate of education from Walden University in 1982.
He was an avid believer in the power of education.
Kyle was preceded in death by his twin brother, Kenneth, brother, Corbet and sister, Rosemary Ivey.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years Rosa Franks; their only daughter, Cessy DeLuna; and sister, Billie Carpenter.
Rosa Franks will be holding memorial services and mass in El Paso, Texas where she now resides.
Kyle’s ashes will remain in Alaska for inurnment in the spring of 2002.

Carl Francis Szidloski
Delta Junction, Alaska
Lifelong Delta Junction, Alaska resident, Carl F. Szidloski, 6, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 8, 2001 at the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Carl Francis Szidloski was born January 3rd, 1995 in Fairbanks, Alaska.
He lived in Delta Junction attending the first grade at the Delta Elementary School.
This year Carl had become a member of the Cub Scout Pack 76, in the Tiger Cub Den and was awarded the 5th highest popcorn seller from the cub scouts.
He was a member of the Little Dribblers Basketball Team in Delta as well as the Delta/Greely Little league Team.
Carl was also attending the Gene Williams Tae Kwan Doe School in Delta Junction where he had received his white belt, 2nd Gup.
He was so proud of each stripe on his Tae Kwan Doe belt.
Carl was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 57 in Fairbanks, AK.
According to the family, “ Carl passed away so suddenly on December 8th, 2001.
He loved being a cub scout and was active in school and sports.
He will be missed by his friends and family.”
Carl was preceded in death by his grandmother, Gwendolyn Harper.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Julie Szidloski of Delta Junction, AK; brothers, Michael Szidloski II of Fairbanks, AK, Stephan Szidloski of Delta Junction, and Thomas Szidloski of Delta Junction; sister, Jeanie Szidloski of Delta Junction; sisters, Mary Szidloski of Mt. Holly, NJ, Laurie Haller of Newton, NJ and Michaela Szidloski of Lyndhurst, NJ; grandfather, Robert Harper of Delta Junction, AK; grandmother, Mary Burd of Hackettstown, NJ.
Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2001 at the Delta Junction Moose Lodge on Jack Warren Road.
Chaplain Dick Souhrada from the American Legion Post #22 will officiate.

OBITUARY FOR CHRISTINA LYNN HAEG
Lifetime Kenai Peninsula resident Christina Lynn Haeg passed away in her sleep Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 at her mother’s home in Kenai.
She was 20.
A viewing will be 7-8 p.m. Friday with a short service at 8 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Homer on East End Road.
There will be a viewing one hour prior to services at the church in Homer.
Pastor Robert Jones will officiate at the service.
Burial will be on her father’s property on East End Road following the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be David Haeg, Tony Fox, Vern Logan, Aaron Overson, Sarah Haeg and Jesse Sherwood.
Ms. Haeg was born Sept. 20, 1981 in Soldotna.
She grew up and received her education in Kenai and Homer.
She graduated from Homer High School in 2000.
She commercial fished with her family and was also employed with T & C Enterprises in Homer.
She also worked with Foster’s Construction in Soldotna.
Ms. Haeg loved the outdoors, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, camping and all types of fishing.
She had a great love for horses and all other animals.
She enjoyed being at the race track and working on cars.
She loved working with her father in the construction business running heavy equipment.
She enjoyed spending time with all of her family.
She had a real love for children.
Her family said, “Christina had a true love for all of her family and friends.
She was a special and powerful woman in all of our lives and will continue to be so.
She was always very forgiving, supportive, honest and accepting of others.
She would do all she could for others who were in need of help.
She will be very missed by her family and all of her friends.
She touched many lives in ways that will remain in each of our hearts forever.”
Ms. Haeg was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Tomas R. Haeg and Larry Fox, uncles, Gregory and Ronald Haeg.
She is survived by her father, Thomas M. Haeg of Homer; mother, Carrie Lynn Haeg of Kenai; sister, Sarah Lee Haeg; stepmother, Bets Haeg of Homer; step-siblings, Christopher, Sara, Robin and Robert Reed; grandparents, Robert and Mary Haeg of Chinitna Bay, Carol Fox of Kenai, Robert of Carole Jones of Ninilchik; aunts and uncles, Tony and Monica Fox of Kenai, Vern and Wendy Logan of North Kenai, David and Jackie Haeg of Soldotna, Sue Clements of Minnesota; cousins, Sharlena and Devin Fox; Chase and Brandon Logan, Kayla and Cassandra Haeg, Lisa, Danielle, Eric and Ryan Clements.

OBITUARY FOR WYNONA DIANE BROWN-NICHOLS
Anchorage resident Wynona D. Brown-Nichols died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001 at her home in Anchorage.
She was 34.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday Dec. 13, 2001 at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
Pastor Steve Toliver will officiate.
There will be a viewing one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Ms. Brown-Nichols was born Jan. 12, 1967 in Anchorage.
She lived in Eagle River from the time she was born to 1976.
She then moved with her family to Fairbanks.
In 1982 she move again with her family to Soldotna and resided there until moving to Anchorage in 1999.
She worked for Inlet Towers Hotel.
Ms. Brown-Nichols loved making birch bark baskets and prayer feathers.
Her family said, “Wynona was a very special, caring person loved by all who knew her.
She will be missed by her family and friends.”
She was preceded in death by a sister, Tracy.
Ms. Brown-Nichols is survived by her parents, Robert ‘Jim’ and Goldie Brown; her children, Spencer and Tyler; a friend Jeremy Ickes; brothers Barney and David; sisters, Debra and Donna; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and.
