John Hollis

John A. Hollis, Age 67, a resident of Homer for the past 63 years, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer following an extended illness.
John was born August 23, 1946 in Seattle, Washington where in 1950 his family moved north to Homer.
He graduated from Homer High School in 1964 and later attended Business College in Washington State.
John was a heavy equipment operator and a truck driver throughout most of his life.
John was also employed by the City of Homer as Harbormaster.
“The family wrote, “John was a gentle soul who was loved by so many.
He was always willing to lend a hand to help someone in need expecting nothing in return.
He loved Homer and never wanted to live anywhere else.
John was extremely giving, sometimes even to his detriment. He will be missed."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Earl and Dorothy (Richmond) Hollis and niece, Sandra Scroggs.
He is survived by his son, Lawrence Hollis of Eagle Mountain, Utah; sister, Dorene Hollis Miller of Wagoner, Oklahoma; brother, William Hollis of Guam; ex-wives, Deni Charron of Homer, Alaska and Charlene Wilkins of Homer, Alaska.

DOROTHY WOODS
July 6, 1922 - May 6, 2014
Long time Alaskan resident Dorothy L. Woods, 91, died Tuesday May 6, 2014, at Central Peninsula Hospital with her family by her side.
A celebration of her life will be at a later date and ashes will spread off the Homer Spit.
Dorothy was born July 6, 1922 in Manitowoc, Michigan to Frank & Lila M. LaPointe.
Dorothy came to Alaska in 1935 with her parents as original colonists to the Matanuska Valley.
She graduated from Palmer High School.
While in high school she helped her stepfather lrving Newville publish the newspaper for the colony project.
After high school she went to work for the Matanuska Valley Co-op as a bookkeeper.
Later she worked for Eklutna Lake Power Project and ARRC.
After marrying Wilson R. Woods they started Woods insurance Agency in Palmer.
In 1964 they moved to Colorado for a period of time returning to Alaska in 1972 to Anchorage where she worked for Hickel Investment, and later for Alaska Truss& Millwork.
In 1980 they moved to Soldotna and built a home near Morgan's Landing.
Dorothy worked at Bigler Kohler Obendorf Accounting and retired in 2000.
Dorothy was an avid quilter and exhibited in quilt shows.
She was still making quilted projects right up to the time of her death.
She will be remembered by the family and friends for all the lovely quilted pieces she made.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Wilson R. Woods and her son Dee W. Woods.
She leaves daughter Kerry (Mike) Tappenbeck of Portland, OR; daughter, Lila Ann (Edward) Krohn of Soldotna; grandchildren Michael (Rhonda) Krohn of Soldotna, Brian (Linda) Krohn of Puyallup, WA; daughter-in-law, Lynne Woods of Sutton; grandchildren Marnice (Darin) Marshall of Wasilla, Russell (Kristin) Woods of Wasilla; great grandchildren, Morgan Krohn, MacKenna Krohn, Ryan Krohn, Alexander Woods, Jacob Woods and Emily Woods.

James Rice, III
August 21, 1951 - March 31, 2014
Alaskan resident, James W. Rice, III, 62, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 at his residence in Anchorage.
Gravesides services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery in Anchorage, 535 E 9th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99501.
James was born August 21, 1951 to James and Louise (Sweeney) Rice, II in Arlington, VA.
He lived in Aberdeen, Maryland before moving to Alaska to settle.
James was predeceased by his father.
He is survived by his mother, Louise of Aberdeen, MD; brother, Robert; sister, Peggy; brother, Joseph and wife Karen; nephew Jason; and niece Michelle.

Davon Mosley
May 29, 1993 - April 4, 2014
Davon Pierre Mosley, Sr., 20, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 in Anchorage, Alaska.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 at the Anchorage Funeral Home, 1800 Dare Ave. in Anchorage.
Elder Michael L. Sweet, Sr. will be officiating.
Davon was born May 29, 1993 to Carlton and Lorraine Mosley in Bakersfield, California.
He graduated from Vista P High School in Bakersfield.
He also played football and later moved to Anchorage in August 2013 where he attended Nine Star Education Center.
He was a member of True Vine Ministries and also worked for Toys-R-Us.
His fiancé quoted, “Davon was a kind, beautiful, loving son, fiancé, father, brother and friend.
He lived just to see the smiles on his family’s face.
He loved me and his children, Davon, Jr. and Davon’Tae to pieces and adored his mother.”
“To me he was my big headed boy.
He is a kind hearted person who loved his family.
They are his heart, and that is where he will always be.” added his mother.
Davon was preceded in death by his brother, Carlton Bruce Mosley, Jr.; and grandparents, Pete and Caroline Galan, and Mavit and Bill Mosley.
He is survived by his parents; sons Davon Mosley, Jr., and Davon’Tae Mosley of Anchorage; fiancé Vernesia Gordon and baby to be of Anchorage; mother and father-in-law, Charles (Khanesia Allen) Powell of Anchorage; brothers Breon and Treyvon Mosley of Tehachapi, CA, D’Aire (Felicia) Dilworth, Durell (Brandi) Dilworth, Eric Lee, Jr., and Kemauri and Kemontae Taylor all of Anchorage; sister Theresa Ferguson of Lake Isabella, CA; grandmother, Arletta Dilworth of Southfield, MI; nephew Carlton B. (Jamisha) Mosley, III of Bakersfield, CA; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
