Mary Jane Kitchens

Mary Jane Kitchens, 91, of Soldotna, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Central Peninsula Hospital
.
Mary was born on Monday, July 3, 1922 in Big Timber, Montana to Aubrey and Sarah Staley.
She worked in Napa, CA for Rough Riders and Levi Straus.
She married William Kitchens, Sr. outside of Reno, NV on Saturday, August, 9, 1947.
They moved to Alaska in 1957, where they first lived in Anchorage.
In 1961, Mary moved to Soldotna where she helped to start the first hospital auxiliary.
She worked for River Terrace Laundry and from 1976 until 1983 worked for Peninsula 4x4.
Mary worked for Alaska Oilfield Mechanical and Maintenance until her retirement in 1989 when they traveled all over the United States with their good friends, R.V. and Shirley Wells, spending 17 winters in Arizona.
Mary enjoyed sewing, golfing and spending time with family and friends.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, William; sons, William, Jr. and wife Mary Jean and Jim Ray and wife, Jawana; daughter, Judy Marie and husband, Steve Phipps; sisters, Norma Johnson and Gerry Schamun; brother, Robert Staley; grandchildren, Jim Kitchens, Jr., Shawn Dee Kitchens, Willy Kitchens, Levi and Cody Phipps; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, her dog, Lily and lots of friends and extended family.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Vivian Marie Coppedge
July 29, 1927 - April 27, 2014
Vivian Marie Coppedge, age 77, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Heritage place in Soldotna.
She was born July 29, 1927 to Earnest Marshall and Omma Lee (Patton) Moore in Dericks, Arkansas where she graduated high school.
Vivian retired from Getman Phamacy in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1989 and moved to Soldotna, Alaska in 1991 where she served for two years in the Senior Companion Program.
She is survived by her son, Charles Edward Dickson and wife, Sheila of Soldotna; daughter, Deborah Leoma Dickson; granddaughters, Kimberly Marie Dickson of Monroe, Washington and April Lyn of Phoenix, Arizona; grandson, Jack Don Dickson of Seneca, Illinois; sister, Geraldine Grammer of Clayton, Oklahoma and one great grandson.

Carolyn Jane Humphreys
NOVEMBER 23, 1936 - APRIL 20, 2014
Carolyn Jane Tucker Humphreys, a long time Alaska resident, died April 20, 2014 at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna, AK. She was 77.
Carolyn was born November 23, 1936 in Greeneville, TN to Willie and Clarence Tucker.
She graduated from Greeneville High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Emory & Henry College in Emory, VA.
She later received a Master’s Degree in the field of Reading from the University of Alaska, Anchorage.
She taught in Virginia, Florida and Iceland. Carolyn and her husband, Richard lived in Iceland for 5 years where she taught kindergarten.
They traveled Europe extensively while there, including Greece and Ireland.
They also visited Antarctica and Churchill, Canada to view Polar Bears.
She moved to Anchorage in 1969 and was hired at Northern Lights Elementary.
She also taught at Scenic Park, Tudor and North Star schools.
Her last eight years were with Chapter One as a Reading and Language Arts Specialist at Denali Elementary.
She retired in 1995 with 25 years in the Anchorage School District.
Professionally, she was a member of and held various offices in Alpha Delta Kappa and CARTA (for retired teachers).
She loved to read and play bridge, but her favorite was time spent with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Richard and her brother, James Tucker.
Carolyn is survived by her son, Dr. Steven Craig Humphreys and wife, Julie; beloved grandchildren, Grant, Caroline, and Gabrielle Humphreys, all of Soldotna, AK; niece, Christine Tucker Kelley; nephew, Kenneth Tucker; great nieces and nephews, Luke Kelly, Ben Kelley, Lauren and Grace Tucker; sister in laws, Josephine Tucker of Greeneville, TN and Helen Thompson of Charlotte, NC and her companion, Landon Kelly.
A celebration of life will be held 4P.M. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at St. John’s Methodist Church (1801 O’Malley Rd, Anchorage) where she was an active member.
A reception will follow at the church.
A private family inurnment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Greeneville, TN.
The family will host a reception at Trinity United Methodist Church in the Grace Parlor (524 Tusculum Blvd., Greeneville) on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 12:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alaska Zoo or the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank.
Paul Beever
August 6, 1949 - April 30, 2014
Soldotna resident Paul Arthur Beever, 64, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Apr. 30, 2014 at Alaska Regional Hospital with his family by his side.
An open service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Birch Ridge Golf Course.
A reception will follow.

Paul was born Aug. 6, 1949 in Chillicothe, Mo.
He enlisted in the Army at age 22 and served a tour of duty in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot.
He moved to Soldotna in 1980, where he lived the remainder of his life.
“There are no words to describe how loving, caring, giving and supportive he was.
He was the most loving, amazing father, grandfather, son, brother and friend anyone could ever ask for.
In the drop of a dime, Paul would be there to give you the shirt off his back, help fix your car, build your cabin or just give you a hug if you needed
He worked so hard all of his life to provide the best for his loved ones.
He enjoyed living life to the fullest and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandson every chance he had.”
“He was a true Alaskan man and love the peacefulness and solitude of the mountains.
He passionately competed and completed Mt. Marathon nine years in a row.
When he wasn’t hard at work, his favorite things to do were running, skiing, fishing, hiking, biking, camping and being the best father and grandfather ever.
He took pride in staying active and always living a healthy lifestyle.”
“We love him so much and want to celebrate what a wonderful man he was.
We love you dad with all that we have.” His family wrote.
Paul is survived by his daughters, Desiree and Jamie Beever; grandson, Bruin Porterfield; son, Nathan Beever; mother, Marie Beever; sister, Carol Cox and husband Gary of Colorado; niece, Nicole Little and husband Tracey of Colorado; nephew, Paul Cox and wife, Keri and grandnephews, Cole Little and Cooper and Andrew Cox.
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
Catherine Atkinson
February 12, 1942 - April 6, 2014
Lifelong Alaskan and Kasilof resident Catherine E. Atkinson, 72, passed away Sunday, Apr. 6, 2014 at Keen Eye Care Assisted Living in Soldotna.
Mass of resurrection will be 12 noon Friday, Apr. 11, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 222 W. Redoubt Ave., Soldotna.
A rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
A reception will follow the Mass at O’Neill Hall.
Her ashes will be laid to rest in Spruce Grove Memorial Park Cemetery in Kasilof at a later date.
Catherine was born Feb. 12, 1942 in Kotlik, Alaska.
She had lived in Anchorage before moving to Kasilof.
She retired in 1999-2000.
Catherine was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
“She loved fishing a lot with friends and family and traveling with her husband during the winters and camping in the summers.
She was always sweet and caring.” Her husband said.
Catherine was preceded in death by her 7 year old son, Thomas Ray and stepson, Dean Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Lloyd Dean Atkinson of Kasilof; daughter, Rosemarie Ray of Anchorage; granddaughter and husband, Cherise and Daryl Armstrong; great-grandchildren, Desmond and Ava Marie Armstrong, all of Ninilchik; grandson, Trevor Ray of Kenai; stepdaughter, Kathy Atkinson; stepson, Duff Pfaner; step-grandchildren, Hillary and Christopher Pfaner, all of Anchorage; and her sister, Anna Cramer, of Anchorage.
