Billy Gene Spires

Longtime Kenai resident, Mr. Billy Gene Spires, 81, died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna due to heart failure.
No public services will be held.
Mr. Spires was born July 19, 1932 in Adel, Georgia.
In 1962 Billy moved to Alaska where he lived in Kenai up until the present.
The family wrote, “Billy Spires was a God fearing man who in his later life loved our Lord Jesus Christ.
He was a hardworking man who spent his career in construction and well-drilling.
He loved Alaska and, in his own way, the families he left behind.”
He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Spires and his parents, Henry and Susie Spires.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan M. Lehr of Jacksonville, Fl, Debra J. Dougherty of Kenai, and Renee Groves of Marina Del Ray, California; sons, David Spires of Jacksonville, FL and Matthew Spires of Aiken, South Carolina; brothers Haskell Spires of Sumrall, Mississippi and J.W. Spires of Lake City, FL.

Donna Ellen White
March 18, 1955 - April 24, 2014
Sterling resident, Donna Ellen White, 59, died Thursday, April 24, 2014 at her home in Sterling from cancer.
No services are planned.
Donna was born March 18, 1955 in Miami, Florida to David L. and Margaret E. White.
Donna was a gentle person who loved everyone.
She greeted you with a smile, laughter, and “"Air Kisses”".
Those who had the privilege to have met her were truly blessed and she was loved by everyone.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
She leaves her father David, twin sister Diana of Sterling; brother, Mark of Sterling; sisters, Marsha (Gary) Lindman of Soldotna, Melinda (Gene) Birky of Anchorage, and Maria Horwath of Sterling; also nieces Leah (JD) Moore, Rachel Birky, and nephews Nathan Horwath, Carl (Jenna) Horwath, and Matthew Birky along with a great niece and two great nephews and numerous cousins.

Richard Kent Gunter
January 9, 1947 - April 10, 2014
Richard Kent Gunter, 67, of Nikiski, passed away peacefully at the Central Peninsula Hospital, with his family by his side on Thursday, April 10, 2014.
Richard was born the son of Will Fate and Almadine (Adams) Gunter on Thursday, January 9, 1947 in El Dorado, Arkansas.
He attended schools in Smackover, Arkansas and Farmerville, Louisiana.
Richard and his wife, Donna were transferred to Nikiski, Alaska in 1976 where Richard worked for Tri-State Oil Tools and they opened G&G; Machine Shop, Inc. in 1986.
His expertise, craftsmanship and quality of work will be missed by his friends in the oil field, heavy equipment and fishing industries.
He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and his sharing of fine Bar-B-Que with his family and many friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna and son, Andrew both of Nikiski; brothers, David Gunter of Sterling, Alaska, W.D. Gunter and wife, Kim of Calhoun, Louisiana and many nieces and nephews in Alaska, Louisiana and New York.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Almadine.
A funeral service will be held 2:30P.M. Monday, April 14, 2014 at the Mount Redoubt Baptist Church (46380 S Lovers Loop in Nikiski) officiated by Pastor Roy Moore, Bob Thraves and Larry Harvey with a potluck immediately following the service.
A private graveside will follow.

Albert Everett Greer
September 26, 1923 - April 7, 2014
Homesteader and longtime Homer resident, Mr. Albert Greer, 90, died Monday, April 7, 2014 at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at The Glacier View Baptist Church, 960 East End Road in Homer.
Pastor Rick Wise will be officiating.
Burial will follow at the Hickerson Memorial Park on Diamond Ridge Road.
Mr. Greer was born September 26, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri.
He graduated from Marble Hill High School.
Soon after he graduated he joined the U.S. Marines in 1942 up until he was honorable discharged in 1946.
He moved from Missouri to Utah where they stayed a few months, before making the long trek up to Alaska in 1954.
He homesteaded in 1954 on Greer Road.
Albert built what’s known at the “Round House” at the Alyeska Ski Resort in 1961 which was declared as a National Building after the States 50th year of State hood.
He was also the 1st licensed building contractor in the City of Homer which he did for over 25 years.
In 1968 he worked for the B.I.A. as a Superintendent up until 1971.
He was a member as well as helped build the Glacier View Baptist Church in Homer.
Albert loved to go fishing and hunting every chance he got.
The family wrote, Al will be remembered for his enjoyment of life.
He loved being with his family and traveling.
He enjoyed building and working with wood and fishing.
He will be missed by all of his family and friends.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jill Greer; brother, Mance, Virgil, and Gene and his parents, Frank and Elisa.
He is survived by his son, Jim (Ann) Greer of Homer; grandsons, Eugene Greer, Dan Greer, and Brent (Tracy) Greer; granddaughter, Tracy (Terrell) Moulton of Denver, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Maggie Tryer and Cody Greer both of Homer.

Talmadge Ingram
October 19, 1932 - April 29, 2014
Anchorage resident, SGT. Talmadge Herschel Ingram, 81, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Providence Alaska Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery, 535 E. 9th Ave., in Anchorage with military honors provided.
Father Anthony Patalano will officiate.
Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, David Lambert and Don Lambert.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-5 p.m. at the V.F.W. Post #9981,immediately following the burial.
Talmadge was born October 19, 1932 to Hugh and Lola (Gandy) Ingram in Seminary, Mississippi.
He later enlisted into the Army in 1949 and stayed until retirement.
He served in Germany, Panama, and parts of the United States earning several commendations along the way.
He was a life member and former Chaplain of V.F.W. Post #9981 and attended the Holy Family Cathedral.
He called Baton Rouge, Louisiana his home for many years where he owned Modern Sewing Sales and Repair on Plank Road until he again retired.
He later moved to Alaska, the state he loved so much, in 1991.
His family quoted, “Talmadge loved walking Chester Creek Trail, shopping, and visiting with his many friends.
He was most famous for saying “Keep it quiet!”
Talmadge was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Elaine Lambert Ingram of the French Settlement in Louisiana; infant twin daughters, Roxanne and Jacqueline Ingram; and brothers, Billy Hugh Ingram and Winston Ingram.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Herschel O. and Beatrice (Raney) Ingram of Anchorage; sister, Lola Ingram of Hattiesburg, MS; sister-in-law, Margaret Thelma Racca of Lafayette, LA; brother-in-law, Donald Lambert of Palmer; girlfriend, Juanita Honsinger of Anchorage; plus various nieces and nephews and a huge circle of friends that he adored.
