Kasilof resident Barbara (Anselem) Foster died Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at Heritage Place in Soldotna.
She was 83.A private family service will be held at a later date in Lucerne, California.
Her ashes will rest in Lake County, Calif.
Mrs. Foster was born June 6, 1918 in Lawtell, Louisiana.
She was a homemaker and lived in Lucerne, Calif. and Woodville, Texas before moving to Kasilof, Alaska in 1998.
Mrs. Foster was a member of First Baptist Church in Lucerne, Calif.
She enjoyed raising beautiful flowers, especially roses.Her family said, “Barbara’s good cheer, keen sense of humor, and kind heart will be missed by her whole family.”
Mrs. Foster is survived by her daughter, Loraine Larsen and her husband Robert Le Blanc of Kasilof; grandson, Ted Larsen and his wife, Jenni of Kasilof; great-granddaughter, Jade Larsen of Kasilof; sisters, Eunice and Lucille Derouen and Joyce Miller of Lake Charles, La., Gladys Smith and Edna Anselem of Woodville, Texas; brother, Archie Anselem of Bell City, La.; her favorite nephews, Rodney Derouen of Woodville, Texas, Maxroy Foster of Pineville, La.; and many other nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Obituary for Billie W. Martin
Homer resident Billie W. Martin Died January 14, 2002 at the South Peninsula Hospital in Homer, of Respiratory Failure.
She was 74 years old.
At her request no services are planned.
Her ashes will be spread along the Anchor River at a later date.
Mrs. Martin was born March 20, 1927 in Washburn, Missouri.
She graduated from High school. Mrs. Martin lived in Redding, Calif. until 1979 when she moved to Oregon.
In 1997 she moved to Homer, Alaska.
Her interests include Gardening, Seamstressing, Bird Watching, and spending time with her friends and family.
Her family writes “Billie was a very special person and will be missed very much by her friends and family.”
Mrs. Martin is survived by her daughters and son in law Sharon Hansen, of Homer, Alaska and Sandy and Art Salinas of Chico, Calif., her grandson and his wife Troy and Nikki Porter of Redding, Calif., her grand daughter Treva porter of Elk Grove, Calif. and her great-great grandchildren.
Her family encourages memorial donations to a charity of your choice.

James Hatfield

Homer resident James W. “Bill” Hatfield died Monday, January 14, 2002, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer.
He was 86.
At the family’s request, there will be no services.
Mr. Hatfield was born Jan. 10, 1916 in Belle Plaine, Kansas.
He served in the U.S. Army for 4 years and was in the China Burma India Theatre.
Locks and safes were his business and his joy.
Mr. Hatfield retired in 1979 in Pasadena, Calif and moved to Homer.
Mr. Hatfield was a Past Deputy District Govenor of District 4L2 in California, member of Lion’s Club in California, Homer United Methodist Church, American Legion and Elk’s Club in Homer.
He was also in the VFW of Anchor Point.
Mr. Hatfield is survived by his wife of 63 years, Winifred, of Homer; daughters and sons-in-law, Jean Hatfield and husband Rick Callis of Homer and Carol De Cook and husband Bob of Shrewsbury, Mass.; grandchildren, Eric De Cesare of Cypress, Calif and Mackenzie Callis of Homer, AK.

Lyle Psick

OBITUARY FOR LYLE PSICK
Ninilchik resident Lyle Psick died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002 after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was 66.
A memorial mass held Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Soldotna.
Mr. Psick was born July 28, 1935 in Duluth, Minnesota.
After high school, he joined the U.S. Army in 1953.
He was honorably discharged in 1956.
Mr. Psick was a truck driver in the Teamsters Union until retiring in 1994.
He loved hunting, camping, fishing and traveling in his motorhome.
His family said, “He was a good man who never said a bad work of anyone, and will be truly missed.”
Mr. Psick is survived by his wife of 34 years, Dorothy Psick of Ninilchik; sons, Gary, Paul, Larry and Mark; sister, Leora Skane; stepsons, Ed Greenhalgh and his wife Pamela of Soldotna and Ray Greenhalgh of North Kenai; stepdaughter, Ruth Lawton of Florida; grandchildren, Traci Lee, Trina Hall, Travis Greenhalgh, and Richard Greenhalgh of North Kenai and Soldotna, Raymond and Jason Greenhalgh Michelle and Melissa Lawton and many great-grandchildren.

John D. Horn

JOHN D. HORN, Sr., 80
Anchorage resident, John D. Horn, Sr., 80, died January 10, 2002 at Providence Extended Care Facility after a short illness.
Services will be held in Whitefish, MT at a later date.
Burial will be in the Whitefish Cemetery beside his beloved wife Marie.
Born in Whitefish, MT, Mr. Horn’s life was forever changed with the events of December 7, 1941.
Shortly after, his 30-year career in the U.S. Airforce began with navigator training and deployment in B-17’s to Algeria and Tunisia where he completed 50 combat missions over Sicily, Italy, Greece and Germany during 1943.
After W.W.II he went on to pilot training and a fulfilling Air Force career with assignments all over the world, before retiring as a Colonel to Whitefish in 1972 where he remained until 1997 when he moved to Alaska to be near family.
Mr. Horn was an avid hunter and fisherman, who loved the outdoors and any opportunity that took him there.
In addition to outdoor activities, he enjoyed a good game of cribbage, gin rummy or bridge.
He was a skilled wood worker who enjoyed making small items as well as larger pieces of furniture.
He once took mock offense when one of his sons asked him where he “bought” some cabinets.
His reply “I made them.” He enjoyed his activities with VFW Post 9981, Moose Lodge 642 and the Whitefish Masonic Lodge 64.
His family said: "John had a special appreciation of the outdoors and felt most at peace in natures company.
He will be missed.
Even though we are sad in his passing, we find comfort in knowing that he is with Mom."
Mr. Horn is survived by sons and daughters in law John and Shirley Horn of Anchorage; Steve and Weslei Horn of Anchorage; granddaughters Kelly Harden of Kenai, Tracy Horn of Portland, and Stacy Horn of Memphis and grandson, Andrew Horn of Anchorage.
His wife, Marie, preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the National Parkinson's Foundation Inc., at the Bob Hope Parkinson’s Research Center, 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Miami, FL 33136-1494.

Diana J. Ostrom, 60 of Anchorage, died Wednesday January 9, 2002 at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
She was born October 19, 1941 in Billings, Montana.
Memorial services will be 4:30 Monday, at Faith Lutheran Church, 5200 Lake Otis Parkway with Pastor James Oldfield officiating.
Diana moved to Alaska in 1974 and has lived in Skagway, Juneau and Anchorage.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Leader in 4 H, Volunteer for Red Cross and Eagles Auxiliary.
Some of her hobbies include sewing, baking, Denver Broncos Fan, fishing and traveling.
Her family is quoted as saying, “Diana was a loving & devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.
She fought cancer courageously for 5 years and now is at rest for the Lord.
Diana is survived by her husband; Frank Ostrom of Anchorage, daughter & son in law; Julie & Roy LaMay of Anchorge, son & daughter in law; Randy & Caroline Ostrom of Twin Falls, Idaho, son & daughter in law; Jim & Janelle Maestas of Espanola, New Mexico, brother; Dan Whitmore of Billings, Montana seven grandchildren; Garrett & Kelsey LaMay of Anchorage, Jacob & Kirsten Maestas of Espanola, New Mexico, Dusty, Garrett, & Kory Scott of Twin Falls, Idaho.
