Heather Faeo

Nikiski resident Heather Faeo died July 1, 2003, at Children's Hospital in Denver as a result of injuries sustained in an accident on May 17. She was 14.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 25, at the Nikiski Middle-Senior High School Auditorium.

Heather was born March 30, 1989, in Anchorage and moved to Nikiski in 1990. She attended preschool at Nikiski Church of the Nazarene and kindergarten at North Star Elementary School. She attended first through sixth grade at Nikiski Elementary School, and she had just finished eighth grade at Nikiski Middle-Senior High School, where she was a sprinter on the track team.

She loved drawing, writing, reading and computer graphics.

"She was a loving, generous girl with a wonderful imagination, who brought joy to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her death is a tragic loss, and she will be missed by many people, " her family said.

Heather is survived by her mother, Laura Faeo of Nikiski; father, Larry Faeo of Round Rock, Texas; grandmother, Gayle Barrett of Denver; grandfather, William Barrett of San Jose, Calif.; uncles, Len Barrett of Newark, Del., Tony Faeo of Anchorage and Robert Faeo of Oklahoma City; aunt, Barbara Faeo of Palmer; and cousins Lena Barrett, Christopher Faeo and Maggie Hester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a memorial fund for Nikiski Middle-Senior High School.

Brian L. Halvarson

A service in memory of Brian L. Halvarson, son of Larry and Barbara Halvarson of Soldotna, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the Soldotna Church of Christ, Mile 91.7 of the Sterling Highway. Everyone is invited to the service.

Mr. Halvarson died Tuesday, May 27, 2003.

Mary Ann Price

Anchorage resident Mary Ann Price died Sunday, June 8, 2003, in Sterling of natural causes. She was 61.

There will be an informal gathering of family and friends at her home, 5621 John Muir Circle off of Sand Lake Road in Anchorage from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 14. A private family ceremony will be held Friday, June 13, on the Kenai River, where her ashes will be scattered in the same location as her father's.

Mrs. Price was born July 19, 1941, in Sheridan, Wyo., but spent her childhood in Billings, Mont. She came to Anchorage with first husband, David Elliott, and their young family in 1962. She has remained in Anchorage ever since. She began working at the airport for Dynair in 1979, where she worked for nearly 20 years. More recently she worked at Spenard Builders Supply in accounts payable.

"Mary Ann was a devoted mother, raising her children and being actively involved in all of their interests. She was a kind, compassionate person and a true matriarch of her close-knit family. She loved spending time with her family, especially her nine grandchildren. She had a knack for making everyone feel special and unique. She will always be remembered for her empathetic spirit and positive outlook, always looking on the bright side of every situation. She had a tremendous love of flowers and thought that they were the most beautiful things on Earth, " her family said.

Mrs. Price is preceded in death by her father, E. Franklin King.

She is survived by her husband, Dilly Price of Anchorage; first husband, David Elliott, and their three children, Julie and her husband, Dan France, of Soldotna, Tami and her husband, Mike Galvin, of Palmer, and Franklin "Buddy" and his wife, Tammy Elliott, of Anchorage; son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Caroline Berry of Zebulon, N.C.; mother-in-law, Elaine Price of Anchorage; and grandchildren, Philip, Kyle and Olivia France all of Soldotna, Lindsay, Cameron and Spencer Galvin all of Palmer, Dustin Elliott of Anchorage and Nicholas and Jamison Berry of Zebulon.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be sent to the Anchorage Rescue Mission, 2823 E. Tudor Road, Anchorage, AK 99507.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.

Taieesha Katrina Stamer

Lifelong Nikiski resident Taieesha Katrina Stamer died Saturday, July 19, 2003. She was 23.

A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church at 7 p.m. Friday, July 25. Father Frank Reitter will officiate.

Miss Stamer was born Dec. 12, 1979, in Soldotna. While attending high school in Nikiski, she was a star cross country and track runner. She also was a basketball cheerleader for three years and a member of the cross country ski team. After graduating from Nikiski Middle-Senior High School in 1998, she attended college at Hawaii Pacific University for one year. Miss Stamer continued her education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, for three years, pursuing a bachelor's degree in psychology.

Her adventurous nature took her sky diving in Australia, scuba diving in Hawaii and hiking and horseback riding in the Las Vegas deserts. Her summer and fall seasons were spent at Uyak Bay Lodge in Larsen Bay, Kodiak, where she was the head cook for the past three years. There, she became extremely close to the Aga family, owners of the lodge. Miss Stamer experienced getting her first buck, catching halibut, salmon, octopus, crab and visiting the brown bears in the village. She most recently enjoyed time in California at a Filipino family reunion.

"She enjoyed hunting and fishing in Alaska and loved the excitement of travel, meeting new people and seeing new places. She was always so friendly and was loved so much by everyone who met her, " her family said. "Taieesha will live in our hearts and memories forever. She will always be remembered with a smile and as the happy fun-loving girl we all knew and loved. She was a beloved daughter, sister and friend to all. Taieesha will be terribly missed by her family."

Miss Stamer was preceded in death by an uncle, Manny Lucero.

Miss Stamer is survived by parents, Robert and Celestina Stamer; siblings, Ericksen, Tatiana and Katrina; uncle and aunt, Richard and Ludy Link, and their children Adam, Matthew and Peter, all of Soldotna; uncle and aunt, Jose and Marie Rivera, and their children Ramon, Tony, Dominic and Danielle, all of Camarillo, Calif.; aunt, Janet Jones, and her children Sarah, Zachary and Kaitlyn of Fairfield, Calif.; aunt, Katie Lucero and her children, Melody Lucero and Mandy Higgins; cousins, Victoria, Rayne, John, Angus and Aurora; and numerous other cousins, uncles and aunts in the Lower 48 and Canada.

Donations may be made to a memorial fund in Miss Stamer's name at First National Bank, account No. 70218524. For more information, call Debbie Falk at 776-5737.

Norman P. Witalec

Nikiski resident Norman P. Witalec died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage. He was 72.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at 4 p.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Kenai.

Mr. Witalec was born June 10, 1931, in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Navy and moved to Nikiski in 1977, where he spent 16 years with Unocal's agricultural products division. He then spent five years in Oscoda, Mich., caring for his mother. He returned to Alaska in February following her death.

"Norman enjoyed hunting and fishing and will be remembered as a generous, loving man who cared deeply for his family and friends, " his family said.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Stella Witalec.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Eunice; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Morris McCoy of Oscoda, Linda and Brian Seeholzer of Williston, Vt., Terri and George Tait of Mikado, Mich., Tami and Raymond Schemanski of Soldotna and Teresa and George DeHart of Anchorage; son, Charles Elliott of Anchorage; and grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler Justin and Brendon Seeholzer, Nicole Mollison, Jamie Tait, Ty Schemanski, Tera Doss and Daniel DeHart.

M. Katherine (Conner-Prince-Drake) Kribs

Anchorage resident M. Katherine (Conner-Prince-Drake) Kribs died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage of heart failure. She was 57.

Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at the Alaska Square and Round Dance Center, 432 E. Harvard Ave. in Anchorage.

Mrs. Kribs was born in Tulare, Calif., in 1946 to Oscar and Lucy Crabtree. She grew up in various cities in Colorado and graduated from Sheridan High School in Sheridan, Colo., in 1964. She met her first husband, Mike Prince, later that year and moved to Anchorage in early 1965. In 1975, the family moved to the Kenai Peninsula. Mrs. Kribs started to work for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District in 1976 and retired from there in 1998. She moved to Anchorage in 1999 to retire and worked part time at various places, starting her last job with MSDS Pro in August 2002.

In 1983, she started square dancing in Soldotna and was an active square dancer with the Peninsula Promenaders, Stardusters and Denali Dancers.

"She enjoyed traveling to many of the square dance events throughout the state. The family cannot remember a time she missed the Buffalo Wallow in Delta Junction. Katherine would always be ready and willing to talk with people from Colorado and those interested in square dancing. She was well like by those she met and never met a stranger, " her family said.

It is at square dance events that she met her husband and friend, Al Kribs. They were married in February 2002 and spent happy times traveling together to square dance events and vacationing.

Mrs. Kribs is survived by her husband, Al Kribs of Anchorage; children, Yvonne Prince, Christopher Prince and Karen Johnson, all of Anchorage; granddaughter, Megan of Anchorage; grandson, Quinn of Anchorage; mother, Lucy Crabtree; brother, James Crabtree; sister, Francis Draves; and nieces, Elizabeth Conner, Richelle Meek and Christine Likely, all from Colorado.

Mrs. Kribs also was active in the local chapter of Mended Hearts as the secretary and treasurer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mended Hearts, First National Bank of Alaska, account No. 1509686.

Arrangements were made by Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Anchorage.

R.B. D. Jackson

Longtime Homer resident R.B. D. Jackson died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, from metastatic colon cancer at South Peninsula General Hospital in Homer. He was 77.

Per Mr. Jackson's request, no memorial services were held. His ashes will be scattered at a site to be determined at a later date.

Mr. Jackson was born May 3, 1926, in Snyder, Okla. He completed 10th grade in 1944, and obtained his high school diploma in 2001. Mr. Jackson entered the U.S. Army in September 1944 as private first class in the 97th Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion. He served overseas as a military police officer and received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and an honorable discharge in August 1946.

He worked as the stern oiler on the gold dredge in Yuba, Calif., from 1947 to 1948. He attended Telephone Company Lineman's Installer and Maintenance School from 1948 to 1955, after which he began his career as a lineman installer and maintenance worker for the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. in Tulare, Calif. From 1964 to 1971 Mr. Jackson did seasonal work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a soil conservation aide in Palmer.

In May 1958, he moved to Homer. From 1966 to 1967 he worked as a school custodian at Homer Middle School and was a school bus driver from 1968 to 1984. He was recognized for a perfect attendance record for six consecutive years.

In 1971 Mr. Jackson attended trade school for servicing electrical appliances, air conditioning and refrigeration and graduated with honors. In 1974 he attended the state of Alaska Fire and Chemical Fire Investigation School. He served four years as the Homer Volunteer Fire Department fire chief, various terms as the assistant fire chief and served on the board of directors. He received an award for his service to the Homer Volunteer Fire Department for his 16 years of service from 1958 to 1974. In 1994 he took correspondence courses for locksmithing and electrical security school, receiving a diploma with honors.

Mr. Jackson was a member of the Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith and Love Fountain of Alaska, a humanitarian service group in Homer. He recognized all faiths and religions. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fixing things and reading Western novels.

"R.B. was a great guy and a privilege to know. A piece of history is gone and Homer will not be the same without him. We remember R.B. so well; he was always jolly, with courage and a pioneering spirit. He fought a long and hard battle with cancer. R.B.'s encouraging words and smile will be missed. He will live in the hearts and memories of the many whose lives he touched during his many years of service in our community, " his family said.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife of 43 years, Helen A. Jackson; sons and daughters-in-law, Aaron and Crystal Jackson, Arnan and Marcy Jackson and Konrad and Mary Jackson; daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Michael Thacker, Alinda and John Brodigan and Kathleen and Tom Piecuch; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of memorial contributions, Mr. Jackson can be honored by being good to your fellow man.

Arrangements were made by Homer Funeral Home.

Robert 'Bob' Lee Wetherelt

Soldotna resident Robert "Bob" Lee Wetherelt died Monday, July 14, 2003, of bladder cancer at his home off Funny River Road in Soldotna. He was 65.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at the Funny River Bible Church in Soldotna. Pastor Joel Poe will officiate.

Mr. Wetherelt was born April 28, 1938, in Broadus, Mont., where he was raised and graduated from high school.

He entered the National Guard of Montana and received an honorable discharge in 1955 and joined the U.S. Navy shortly thereafter. He had a job in Montana breaking horses when he was younger.

He started a career in heavy equipment operating in 1958 and retired from the Operating Engineers Local No. 302 in 1989.

Mr. Wetherelt moved to Anchorage in 1961 and lived there until 1980, when he moved to the Kenai Peninsula, making his home off the Funny River Road.

"Bob enjoyed woodworking, collecting belt buckles, fishing, hunting and working on his boat that he named after his wife, the 'Ebb Tide.' He was a very kind, caring and giving person and was fun to be around. People out Funny River Road knew him best by his wave. He waved at everybody, " his family said.

Mr. Wetherelt was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Helene Wetherelt; brothers, Francis and Jim Wetherelt; uncle, Glenn Wetherelt; and nephew, Shane Wetherelt.

He is survived by his wife, Ebba A. Wetherelt of Soldotna; sons, Jim Wetherelt of East Helena, Mont., James Beaver of Anchorage and Roy Beaver of Soldotna; daughters, Patricia Partin of Soldotna and Terry Wetherelt; sisters, Blondy Woolston of Broadus and Mary Howard Smith of Billings, Mont.; grandchildren, Hunter and Tia Wetherelt of East Helena, and Shelly Kalyn and Douglas Beaver and Brandon and Larry Partin, all of Soldotna; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.

Thomas William Pearcy

Kenai resident Thomas William Pearcy died Saturday, July 19, 2003, due to an extended illness at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. He was 63.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Soldotna. Mr. Robert Gepner will officiate.

Mr. Pearcy was born Sept. 22, 1939, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to Thomas William Pearcy Sr. and Helen P. Pearcy. He was raised and attended high school in Coeur d'Alene. He moved to Anchorage in 1964 and began his career as a heavy equipment operator.

He worked throughout the states of Alaska, Idaho and California. In 1975, he moved to Kodiak, where he lived for three years before moving to Soldotna in 1978. He retired from the Operating Engineers, Local 302 in 2001. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

"Tom was a wonderful husband, great father and loved his family very much. He was a hard worker, was very fun loving and had a great sense of humor. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed being in the woods, " his family said.

Mr. Pearcy was preceded in death by his father, Thomas W. "T.W." Pearcy Sr. and by his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Roberta C. Pearcy of Kenai; sons, Tom R. Webster of California, and Kenny H. Pearcy, Douglas T. Pearcy and Justin T. Pearcy, all of Kenai; daughter and son in-law, Tammie and Nathan Evans of Peters Creek, Alaska; daughter, Misty L. Pearcy of Kenai; brother, Doyne J. "D.J." Pearcy of Coeur d'Alene; brother and sister in-law, Dann R. and Cindy Pearcy of Dalton Gardens, Idaho; sister and brother in-law, Marie E. and James Edinger of Coeur d'Alene; mother, Helen P. Pearcy of Coeur d' Alene; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Thomas W. Pearcy to 36300 Ravenwood St., Kenai, AK 99611.
