Hassien Allon Sliman
Sterling resident and longtime Alaskan Hassien Allon Sliman died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Central Peninsula General Hospital from injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was 44.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Apostolic Assembly of Jesus Christ Church on Murray Lane near Mile 89 of the Sterling Highway. Pastor Buck Martin will officiate. Burial will follow the services at the Kenai City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Sliman, Saul Sliman, Luke Sliman, Ron Epperson, John Baldridge and Jose Marquez.
Mr. Sliman was born Dec. 8, 1957, in Needles, Calif. He moved with his family to Alaska in 1967. He graduated from Kenai Central High School. He worked as a mechanic and was employed by Fairweather Inc. at the time of his death.
Mr. Sliman loved his family and enjoyed skiing, hunting and fishing.
"Our loving brother and son has joined his father, John Sliman. He will always be remembered for his gentle independent spirit and love of Alaska. He will forever be held in our hearts, " his family said.
Mr. Sliman is survived by his mother, Pauline Sliman of Soldotna; daughter, Crystal Sliman, and grandson, Alexander Sliman, both of Anchorage; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lydia and Stan Palmer of Sweet Home, Ore., Becky and Harold Custard of Dallas, Ore., Sheilah and John Baldridge of Fairbanks, Laura and Jose Marquez of Soldotna, and Sarah and Daniel Epperson of Wenatchee, Wash.; brothers, Joe Sliman of Soldotna, Saul and Luke Sliman, both of Anchorage; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard Lowell Tucker
Kenai resident Richard Lowell Tucker died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at his parents home in Forney, Texas. He was 56.
Memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the American Legion in Kenai.
Mr. Tucker was born Aug. 29, 1946, in Tulia, Texas. He was educated at Samuel High School and East Texas College. Mr. Tucker also served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a Dallas police officer, a professor of mechanics at East Texas College, an insulator in the British Petroleum oil fields, at the American Legion and at the Casino Bar.
Mr. Tucker was a Baptist. He also was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
"Richard was a very huggable guy. He was a very devoted family man. He always had a laugh or a dance with his friends at the Legion, " his family said.
Mr. Tucker is survived by his parents, Bud and Geneva; great-aunt, Sis; brothers, Larry, Ken and Glenn; sister, Di; children, Shane, Clint, Tammy, Heath, Debbie and Steven; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joel L. Wilkins
Longtime Soldotna resident Joel L. Wilkins died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at her home in Soldotna. She was 64.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 at College Heights Baptist Church on Kalifornsky Beach Road in Soldotna. Pastor Scott Coffmann will officiate at the memorial service. Her ashes will be buried in Green Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Natchez, Miss.
Ms. Wilkins was born Nov. 10, 1938, in Ferriday, La. She moved to Soldotna in March 1969. She worked as the finance officer for the city of Soldotna for 28 years.
Ms. Wilkins was a member of College Heights Baptist Church and an honorary member of the Soldotna Elks in recognition of her involvement with the Flags of Soldotna program. She enjoyed reading, family cookouts, her grandchildren's activities and taking care of everything with the city of Soldotna.
"We knew what a profound impact 'Mama Jo' had on our lives. What has surprised and amazed us is the overwhelming response from the people of the community. She will be greatly missed by all, " her family said.
Ms. Wilkins was preceded in death by her father, Gordon Lazarus, and a daughter, Donna Wilkins.
She is survived by her mother, Lyda Mae Lazarus of Clayton, La.; daughter and son-in-law, Rena' and Kim Gardner of Soldotna; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon 'Butch' and Nancy Wilkins of Soldotna; her children's father, Charles Wilkins of Ash Flat, Ark.; grandchildren, Severin and Adrienne Gardner of Soldotna and Jason and Sarah Wilkins; sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Lew Denny of Jacksonville, Fla.; niece, Melanie and husband, Charlie Goodwin of Wasilla; and numerous friends and colleagues around the state.

David John Bormann
Kenai resident David John Bormann died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Central Peninsula General Hospital after a long battle with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. He was 42.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. Pastor Rick Cupp will officiate.
Mr. Bormann was born Oct. 19, 1960, in Oneida, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on July 7, 1987.
He moved to Alaska in 1991 and traveled around Alaska doing construction work with his brother-in-law.
Mr. Bormann appreciated Pastor Rick Cupp from the Kenai Fellowship Church. He loved to trout fish, camp and play on the computer.
"My daddy was nice and kind. He would always make me CDs on his computer because I like to sing. I love you daddy, " said his daughter Krystle.
His daughter Heather said, "I love you daddy, and I will miss your hugs."
"Dave, you will be missed by many. Thank you for being in my life and thank you for our daughters. Love always, " his best friend Shelley said.
Mr. Bormann is survived by his best friend, Shelley of Kenai; daughters, Heather Lynn Bormann, 13, and Krystle Rose Bormann, 8 of Kenai; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Guy and Cece Dobbs of Kenai; brother-in-law, Branden Dobbs of Kenai; his mother, Nancy Bormann of New York; brother, Mike Bormann and his family of New York; sisters, Penny Granger and her children in Louisiana and Elaine Duncan and her family of Florida; and special friends, Dave and Teresa, Kim, TJ, Randy and Rebecca, Mark and Jackie, Trapper and Diane, all of Kenai and Nikiski and many other friends.

Warder Clifford Showalter IV
Sterling resident Warder Clifford Showalter IV died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at his home in Sterling from complications of colon cancer. He was 37.
At his request, no services are planned.
Mr. Showalter was born Sept. 21, 1965, in Kenai. He was raised and received his education in the Kenai-Soldotna area. He graduated from Soldotna High School in 1986.
He worked as a miner and was a heavy equipment operator throughout Alaska. His hobbies included shooting, hunting and fishing.
Mr. Showalter is survived by his wife Twyla Showalter; son Logan; daughters, Maryah and Nadia; mother, Wanda Showalter; sister, Anita Johanson; and brothers, David, Henry, Lloyd and George Showalter.

Grace Lucille Johnson
Kenai resident Grace Lucille Johnson died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna of natural causes. She was 81.
There will be a closed casket visitation with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Sticklin Funeral Chapel in Centralia, Wash. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Claquato Cemetery in Chehalis, Wash.
Mrs. Johnson was born Grace L. Peterson on Aug. 6, 1921, in Adna, Wash. She met and married Robert Johnson in 1943 in Olympia, Wash. After World War II, they settled in Roseville, Calif. She was active in the Roseville Moose Lodge for many years.
In 1975, they relocated to Albany, Ore. She did child care there until her move to Kenai in 1996 to be with her daughters.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Johnson; daughter, Virginia Borge; and son, Andrew Johnson.
She is survived by her daughters, Audrey Broghammer and Debby Fahnholz and husband, Norman; grandchildren, Darcy Wheeler, Maria Nelson, Lori Leppert, Carrie Chancellor, Mia Chancellor, Michele Fahnholz, Elissa Bradford and Andrew Fahnholz; and great-grandchildren, Brandon Wheeler, Michael Wheeler, Tony Wilson, Jacob Nelson, Stephanie Borge, Bobbi Chancellor, Jesse Chancellor and Alex Bradford.

Glenn Alan Heathers
Longtime Kenai resident Glenn Alan Heathers died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, in Anchorage. He was 62.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday. Anyone seeking further information is asked to contact Dee at 260-3011.
Mr. Heathers was born May 5, 1940, in Port Angeles, Wash., to Norman and Ann (Baay) Heathers.
He worked fire patrol at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Snider Ranger Station. He flew the hook as a logger and also worked as a blacksmith in Washington. He was employed by Kenai Custom Seafood in Kenai, where he was in charge of smoking fish and preparing pickled halibut. He was employed there for 15 years, where he made many friends for life.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Bart and Guy Heathers; his mother and father; sister, Erline Hill; brothers, Ross and Daryl Heathers; and nephew, Vince Heathers.
He is survived by his son, Daniel Heathers; brother, Larry Heathers; sisters, Cheryl Peters and Colleen Sisson; and grandsons, Kody and Reece Heathers and Joseph Simmons.

Evelyn M. Jorgenson Curran
Evelyn M. Jorgenson Curran, of Danvers, Mass., died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at the Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, Mass., after a brief illness. She was 89.
Born in West Townsend, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Katherina B. (Shaw) Jones. Mrs. Curran moved to Portsmouth, N.H., as a young girl, and graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1930. She attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing in Boston in 1936.
Mrs. Curran was employed as an industrial nurse at the ITEK Corp. facilities until she retired in 1970. She lived in Lynnfield, Mass., until moving to Alaska in 1978, and she moved back to Danvers in 2001.
She was a member of the Community Covenant Church, and the Lynnfield Community Church, where she was past president of the Women's Circle.
Mrs. Curran was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Arthur M. Jorgenson; Phillip J. Curran, her husband of six years; sister, Perley Jones; and brother, Robert L. Jones.
Mrs. Curran is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur M. and Virginia L. Jorgenson Jr. of West Peabody, Mass.; daughter and son-in-law, Astrid and David Chambers of Kenai; grandchildren, Jennifer Lee Gillquist of Eagle River, Adam M. Jorgenson of West Peabody, Amy R. Cassidy of West Peabody, Christopher S. Johnson of Anchorage and Ron D. Chambers of Palmer; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at the Community Covenant Church in West Peabody on Sunday, Jan. 26 with the Rev. Joel Andrelee officiating.

Frank Bing Lee
Kenai resident Frank Bing Lee died Thursday Jan. 30, 2003, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage. He was 75.
Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E St. in Anchorage, with a memorial service following at 4 p.m. Pastor Chris Ball will officiate.
Mr. Lee was born March 25, 1927, in Portland, Ore. He moved to Alaska in 1950, living in Anchorage until 1982, when he moved to Kenai.
He attended the Portland School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge Dec. 25, 1946.
An independent man with a passion for life, Mr. Lee ventured to Alaska in 1950 to seek the "Last Frontier, " his family said.
"He spent his life sharing knowledge and understanding with everyone who sought it. With a big heart and patience, he volunteered his time to the community. His knowledge of fishing, fly tying, bowling and current events were not only shared with family and friends, but with many having the same interests. The memories of those who associated with him will be cherished forever, " his family said.
He is survived by his wife, Babay P. Young-Lee of Kenai; and sons, William C.B. Lee and James C.Y. Young, both of Kenai, Michael C.C. Young of Anchorage and Robert C.H. Young of Las Vegas.
