William Jonathan Squire
William Jonathan Squire of Kenai died in a head-on collision Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Mile 91 of the Sterling Highway. He was 24.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Squire was born Feb. 28, 1977, in Stockton, Calif., to Clark and Kathleen Squire. His parents divorced while he was young, and he relocated to Sterling with his mother and brother. His mother married Gayle Zollman and spent several years between Oregon and California.
In 1988 the family moved back to Alaska and spent two years in Bethel before relocating to the Kenai Peninsula in 1990.
During his high school years, Squire competed in cross country skiing and the biathlon. He graduated from Skyview High School in 1994. His son Cody was born Sept. 14 of that year. After a turbulent start, Jonathan grew into fatherhood. He worked as a cook, a construction worker and an oil-field roustabout.
In December of 1999 he was stricken with a debilitating nerve condition that he battled to his final day.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene Smith and John and Maria Squire; and his younger sister, Brandy Ann.
He is survived by his fiance, Vikki Reetz; his son, Cody Roberts; his mother, Kathleen Zollman; fathers, Clark Squire and Gayle Zollman; grandparents, Bea Smith and Bob and Marion Jensen; brothers, Jeremy Squire, Kevin Zollman and Andrew Zollman; and other relatives and many friends.

He will be remembered forever as a father, brother, son and friend.
Bradley M. Kiffmeyer
Bradley Mark Kiffmeyer, of Soldotna, died Monday, June 26, 2000, in St. Cloud, Minn. He was 45.
A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday at the family home in Soldotna. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. A short prayer service and the dedication of the flag pole and fire pit will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services were held on June 29 at St. Mary's Help of Christians Catholic Church, in St. Augusta, Minn. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Mr. Kiffmeyer was born Oct. 13, 1954, in St. Cloud to Leonard and Delores (Schill) Kiffmeyer. In 1978 he moved from St. Cloud to Soldotna. He married Teresa Adamson on Dec. 28, 1979, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud.
Mr. Kiffmeyer started South Central Communications Company, which recently merged with Tundra Communications, where he held the position of vice president of field operations.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1985, brother Joe, in 1990, and sister Karen, in 1997.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa; children Adam Bradley Kiffmeyer and Abby Adamson Kiffmeyer of Soldotna; mother, Delores Kiffmeyer, of St. Cloud; sister, Lori, of Minneapolis, Minn.; and brothers, Ronald, of Brainerd, Minn., and Jeffrey of St. Cloud.
Memorials may be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Eileen F. McKenzie
Soldotna resident Eileen F. McKenzie died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Northwest Hospital in Seattle. She was 75.
There will be a viewing and funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Bible Chapel. Pastor John Rysdyk will officiate. Burial will be in Spruce Grove Memorial Park in Kasilof.
Mrs. McKenzie was born Dec. 9, 1925, and moved to Alaska in 1962.
"She enjoyed many things. Two of her favorites were her dogs, Tara and Ginger. They were her constant companions. She enjoyed arranging flowers for herself and friends. She also liked to play bingo, garden and travel, " her family said. "Mother will be cherished in her passing as she was in her life."
Mrs. McKenzie was preceded in death by her husband, Russell W. McKenzie and her grandson Jasper.
She is survived by her three children, Douglas, Sandra and Callen; daughters-in-law Patricia McKenzie and Cynthia McKenzie; son-in-law Robert Bolt; grandchildren Douglas, James, Brian, Patrick, Jason, Kristin, Stephen, Derrick, David, Cierra, Angie, Cassandra; and many more family and friends.

Linnea M. Sibayan
Homer resident Linnea M. Boerum Sibayan died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at Fern Ridge TLC in Homer. She was 91.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
She was born Jan. 2, 1911 in Quincy, Mass., and moved to Alaska, settling in Homer, in June of 1951. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her son, George Callahan, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Harold A. Jackson II
Soldotna resident Harold A. Jackson II died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage from a double aneurysm. He was 71.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Soldotna. Bishop Randall Eberline will officiate. Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Peninsula Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Spruce Grove Memorial Park in Kasilof.
Mr. Jackson was born June 2, 1929, in Holbrook, Ariz., where he was raised and educated. He moved to Soldotna on July 4, 1961. He started Jackson Construction in Soldotna and continued running the business until the time of his death. Mr. Jackson also started the fire department in Soldotna.
Mr. Jackson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Soldotna. He also did charity work in the area. He enjoyed gold panning, reading, local politics and thoroughly loved "goin' for a ride."
"He was such a kind and wonderful man, giving love to so many people, " his family said. "He particularly loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all."
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his first wife, Roberta; infant daughter, Roberta; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jackson; sons and daughters-in-law Harold III and Bobbie Jackson, William Allen and Debbie Jackson, Dennis Lynn and Roberta Jackson, and Jon Allen and his companion, Mary; son, Stanley Jackson; stepdaughter and son-in-law Tina Louise and Darren Thayer; stepsons and daughters-in-law Frank Leith and Brandi Bunch and William Earl and Samantha Bunch; stepdaughter, Sherry Michelle Mieastea; 25 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and sister, Luella Grantham.

Donna A. Grundman
Kenai resident Donna A. Grundman died of cancer Friday, April 14, 2000, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. She was 72.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. May 7 at Chuda House.
Mrs. Grundman was born July 8, 1927, in Maquoketa, Iowa. She moved to Alaska from Oregon in 1978 and lived in Hope-Sunrise and Kenai for several years.
She enjoyed painting, writing and reading and she was always busy with different craft projects. She was the author of "A Distant Eden, " "Days to Remember" and "A Place Called Hope." She painted gold pans and full paintings, many of which were sold in gift shops on the Kenai Peninsula.
According to her family, she loved the Turnagain Arm, especially the mountains.
"She was very thankful to the ministry offered to Chuda House by the Kenai Christian Church. She was known for her ability to make friends with all varieties of people. Her apartment was the central gathering place.
"She always had coffee and homemade cookies and candy ready for those in need of a friend. Mom was determined to live her life in a positive manner. Her many struggles in life were all met with the straightforward determination and humor. She loved the Lord, her children and her friends, " the family said.
Mrs. Grundman is survived by her sons, Dan and Darrell Grundman, both of Oregon; daughter, Debra Grundman of Alaska; and grandchildren, Linday, Lisa, Jessica, Erich and Corey.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society, 1057 West Fireweed Lane, Suite 204, Anchorage, AK 99503.

Walter Emerick
Longtime Soldotna resident Walter Emerick died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at his residence in Soldotna of natural causes while working in his garden. He was 76.
A gathering of family, friends and neighbors will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at his residence on the corner of Jay and Martin streets in Soldotna.
Mr. Emerick was born on March 25, 1925, in Billings, Mont., the son of Carl and Lena Emerick. He married Bernice in 1964 and they moved to Alaska in 1967. They lived in Fairbanks until they moved to Anchorage in the fall of 1968 and then to Soldotna in the spring of 1974. He started the W.D. Roofing Company, which the couple owned and operated until his retirement in 1988.
He enjoyed fishing and frequented Swiftwater Park. He did a lot of woodcutting, enjoyed watching movies, listening to the radio and most of all enjoyed working in his huge vegetable garden.
"He enjoyed socializing with all his buddies at the coffee shop most mornings, who will especially miss him. He also enjoyed the companionship of his dog, Toby, " the family said.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl; his wife, Bernice; his brother-in-law, Howard Williamson; his sister-in-law, Harriet Williamson.
He is survived by his fiancee, Sal Kostglanis; his mother, Freida, of Billings; brothers Leroy, of Billings, Gene, of Laurel, Mont.; sister, Delores Nolt of Walla Walla, Wash.; stepson, Robert Blee and his wife, Estella, of Oak Grove, Calif.; nephews Shaun and Dennis of Montana, Howard Jr., Mike and Jimmy Williamson of Alaska; and nieces Jennine and Gloria of Washington.

Neil L. Wirz
Longtime Kenai resident Neil L. Wirz died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. He was 77.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the McGahan Cemetery at Nikiski. Audrey Johnson will officiate at the service.
Mr. Wirz was born Sept. 27, 1922, at Santa Barbara, Calif. He graduated from Umqua Valley High School in Oregon. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. After his military service he worked as a logger in Oregon.
In 1947, he homesteaded in North Kenai. After moving to Alaska, he worked as a commercial fisherman and boat builder during the summers and as an electrical lineman for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers during the winters. He retired in 1984. He had been a member of the IBEW since the early 1950s. He was a pilot and loved flying. He built several commercial fishing boats and was a wood craftsman.
The family said, "He was a devoted father and grandfather. He was also a faithful and loving husband. He will be deeply missed. He was a solid, ethical and moral man and a leader."
Mr. Wirz was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Clay Lundy; grandson, Jesse Dale Wirz; and sisters Verna Maynard and Ethel Carlson.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret, of Kenai; children, Penny Carty, Gary Wirz, Charmaine Lundy, Robert Wirz and Connie Wirz all of Kenai; grandchildren, Heather Sacman, Eric Carty, Lance Cpl. Calvin Lundy, Nicholas Wirz, Bert Lundy and Michael Wirz; great-grandson, Keegan Deny-Wirz; brother Kenneth C. Wirz of Kerby, Ore., and sisters Beverly Smith of Homer and Lillian Meadows of Anchorage.
