James O. 'Bud' Tipton
Fairbanks, Alaska
Bud Tipton of Fairbanks peacefully went home to be with his Lord October 1st, 2001, shortly after midnight, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. He was 70 years old.
Bud was born to Oliver Perry and Maude Beulah Tipton in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, November 25th, 1930.
Bud discovered and studied his gift and joy for singing in his school years, which brought him to California.
It was there he met Wilma Jean Watson, a gifted and classically trained pianist, who became his wife in 1952.
The Korean War came and Bud entered the US Army to serve his nation.
Being a radar operator greatly fascinated Bud and led him to Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. in Sunnyvale, California, where he received advanced professional education.
His career took him to many interesting places and he made many lifelong friends. He retired after 34 years.
Bud loved the Lord and was sincerely involved in church as an Elder, a choir member, and a Vacation Bible School volunteer.
Although it is impossible to sum up one man’s life into words alone, Bud’s family would like folks to know that he loved God.
He enjoyed being around his family, gardening and camping, and the joy that singing brought to his soul.
Finally, Bud said he was going to move from California to Fairbanks, Alaska, this year and he did it! He will be deeply missed.
Bud and Wilma celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary September 20th, 2001.
Bud is survived by his wife Wilma; his daughter, Nina Rivera of Union City, California; his son Jeff Tipton of Fresno, California; and his daughter Jill and her husband Roger Penrod of Fairbanks, Alaska; his grandson Ramon Rivera of Moraga, California; his granddaughter, Alyssa Luna of Fresno, California; and “Brandy” who courageously flew home with him to Alaska.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Bud’s life in Alaska will be held Thursday, October 4th, 2001, at 12:30 PM at First Presbyterian Church (547 Seventh Avenue) in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The Reverend Andrew M. Ekblad will be officiating. Interment will be in Red Bank Cemetery in Clovis, California.

Archie Brown
Fairbanks & Beaver, Alaska
Our beloved Archie Brown quietly slipped away from us on Oct. 13, 2001.
Archie was a descendant of Manniliq and was born to Harry Brown and Maria Allashuk on Aug. 10, 1925, in Beaver.
Archie was orphaned at an early age and spent many years at the orphanage in Fort Yukon where he made numerous lifelong friends and conversed fluently in Gwich'in.
He was a resourceful guy and a jack of many trades.
He worked many years for the Alaska Railroad, as a Yukon River navigator for the Yutana Barge Lines and as a journeyman painter for the Painters & Allied Trade Union Local 1555.
After his retirement, Archie did what he loved to do best, trapping and hunting in and around the Yukon Flats.
A renowned mechanic, Archie was always repairing a snowmachine or outboard motor--preparing for the trapline or hunting.
On winter evenings Archie could be found reading, whether it was a historical book on Alaska or a Louis L'Amour Western novel.
Archie's humor, kindness and generosity was a welcome respite from all the chaos and uncertainty of this life; he spoke with a clarity and straightforwardness past all pretense and piousness.
He was everyone's "uncle."
He was preceded in death by parents, Harry Brown and Maria Allashuk; brother, Evans; sister, Alice; uncles, Howard Allashuk, Joe Sun, and John Brown; aunts, Mary Billy, Maggie Henry, and Hilda Newman; and cousins, Annie Sun, Mabel Wiehl, and John, Sam, Sweeny and Edith Billy to name just a few.
He is survived by daughters, Mary and husband George J. Bennett Sr. of Sitka, and grandchildren, Katherine F. Leitka of Norman, Okla., Anna Marie Bennett of Anchorage, George D. Bennett Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., and James Bennett of Sitka; great-grandchildren, Summer and Wolfgang Lietka, Amanda Bennett, Alexandria Bennett Snyder, Ivan and James Bennett, Norma Jean and husband Eddie Roehl of Palmer, Gloria and husband Tom Groh and sons Daniel, Thomas, and Adam Pitka; daughter Lily Pitka, and great-granddaughter Maya Rose Pitka; Doug Pitka and family of Fairbanks; cousins, Nora Billy and Clara Joseph and families of Beaver, throughout Alaska and Lower 48; Mariah Johnson and Lucy Gooden and families of Fairbanks; and many nephews and nieces too numerous to list; and, dear friends near and far in Alaska and the Lower 48.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with the funeral service to be held at noon at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church on Thursday, Oct. 18.
Following the funeral service, Archie will be flown to Beaver where final services will be held Friday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m.
The Rev. Scott O. Fisher will officiate at both services.
A potlatch will follow at 5:30 p.m. at the Beaver School.
Come celebrate the life of Archie Brown with stories, thanksgiving and the breaking of bread.
