Mary Ellen Rouse, presently of Kerrville,  Texas, passed away Friday, January 16, 2004, after a long illness. Born June 25, 1931, in Port Arthur,  Texas, to Calvin and Ione Forester, Mary Ellen married Richard W. Rouse April 12, 1952. As a resident of Corpus Christi,  Texas, for over forty years, Mary Ellen touched the lives of many in her special way. She taught handicapped children, raised four children of her own and served as a Family Counselor for Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP) helping families to reunite from the perils of substance abuse. Mary Ellen was happiest helping others and centered her life around this special gift.

Mary Ellen earned a BS in Elementary Education from the University of Houston and a Masters in Counseling and Guidance from  Texas A & M University Corpus Christi, formerly Corpus Christi State University. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Richard W. Rouse; her daughter, Kathryn James and her husband, John and children Matthew, Kevin, Ellen, Peter, Hannah and Rachel; her sons, Richard and his wife Lane and their children, Cara and Lauren; Scott and his wife Lisa, and their children, Erin and Garrett; Stuart and his wife Sonja and their daughter, Kathryn; a sister, Ann Winbery and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Mary Ellen will be greatly missed but will always be remembered for her passion for life, her selfless serving spirit and her devotion to family and friends, which lives on in the lives of many.

Services will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Thursday, January 22, 2004, at 1:00 P. M., with graveside services at Garden of Memories following. Family visitation will be from 4-6 P.M. Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville.

Pallbearers are W. D. Bill  Whiteside, Dwight Ewing, John Rouse, and grandsons, Matthew James, Garrett Rouse and Kevin James.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.

Mary R. Rouse

Mary R. Rouse, 74, of Ingram, TX, formerly of Topeka died Friday, November 14, 2003.

She was born August 30, 1929 at Rogersville, MO, the daughter of John and Lula Hostetler. She was married to Donald B. Rouse on November 15, 1950. He preceded her death on January 21, 1998.

Survivors include three daughters, Donnella Tyler of Kerrville, TX, Crystal Warren of McPherson, KS and Cynthia Hilewitz of Oxford, AL; five grandchildren, DeAndra Smith, Rachael Warren, Jacob Warren, Joshua Hilewitz and Sarah Hilewitz and two great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Norris of Topeka and Sheila Esposito of Newton, KS and a brother, Ted Mikesell of Bend, OR.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, Topeka. A private service and interment will be held the following day.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 825 SW Buchanan, Topeka, KS 66606 in memory of Mary.

Local arrangements are entrusted to GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.

Byno Salsman

Mr. Byno Salsman, age 74 of Center Point, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003 in a Las Vegas hospital. He was born in Kellyville, OK on November 12, 1928 to Byno and Etta J. Greenwood Salsman. He married Jean Sandel in Hewbbrewville, TX on July 22, 1970.

Byno was an engineer in the oil field industry as well as a farmer and rancher. He also served in the United States Army Air Corp.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Salsman of Center Point; three daughters, Rebecca Ann Roell of Scottsdale, AZ, Vivian Sumney of Lovington, NM and Sue Ellen Weir of Dallas; two sons, Jimmie Weir of Center Point and George W. Weir of Kingsville; five sisters, Alice Green of Alamogordo, NM, Carmelita Nellda Hilthon of Concan, TX, Loretta Mae Atkins of Amarillo, TX, Della Lavern Hickman of Perkins, OK and Katricia Ann Irvin, of Cherokee, OK; four brothers, Paul Dixon Salsman of Lovington, NM, Stellson Oren Salsman of Kirbyville, TX, LeRoy Calvin Salsman of Ft. Worth, TX, Wincell Wallace Salsman of Stillwell, OK; 10 grandchildren, Sein Markley, Kimberly Nelson, Matthew Weir, Wanda Jean Boatman, Bryan Weir, Jeannie Ann Weir, Michelle Weir, Saul Ugarte, Jesse Ugarte and Jeny Ugarte; and six great grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday, April 21, 2003, 2: 00 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels with Pastor Troy Way officiating.

A visitation will be held before the service on Monday, April 21, from 1-2 p.m. at Grimes.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.

Delia Villanueva Sanchez
Born in Kerrville, TX on September 29, 1924
Departed on July 25, 2004, and resided in Center Point, TX

Delia V. Sanchez of Center Point, TX passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on July 25, 2004 in Sugar Land, TX, after a long illness.
Delia Villanueva Sanchez was born in Kerrville on September 29, 1924, the only daughter of Nicolas Villanueva, one of the founders of the Mexican community in Kerrville, and Aurelia Sanchez Villanueva; and grew up there while Nicolas worked as Foreman of workers building such landmarks as the old Tivy High School, Post Office, City Hall and Louis Schreiner House.

Following World War II, she married her sweetheart, Omaha Beach veteran, Louis L. Sanchez, and the couple settled at 809 Quinlan St. in Kerrville, where they raised their three children, Margaret, Michael and Mary Ann in a partnership that lasted 52 wonderful years.

Delia loved to paint, garden and dance. As an artist, she won numerous best in show awards for her sensitive portrayals of Native Americans; and she, Louis, and their children enjoyed many a turn on the dance floor be it cumbia, polka, or  Texas two-step.

A member of America’s Greatest Generation, she was raised to believe in the value of kindness and community service to which she gave 800 hours volunteer service through Heart of the Hills Hospice, as well as many hours to the State Hospital of Kerrville.

She spent 24 years of her later life in her beloved home along the Guadalupe River in Center Point, where she remained a caring volunteer, artist, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Preceded in death by her husband Louis, she is survived by her daughter Margaret Sanchez Stone and husband, Jeffery C. Stone of Sugar Land; her son Michael L. Sanchez and wife, Cindy Sanchez of Boerne; her daughter Mary Ann Sanchez of Kerrville; her grandson Rene J. Stone of Houston; and granddaughter Olivia Sanchez and grandson Gabriel Sanchez of Boerne.

A prayer service will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2004, 5:00 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels, conducted by Matias Rodrigues.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Notre Dame Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.

Lee Santa Maria
Born in Houston, TX on August 1, 1914
Departed on April 14, 2003 and resided in Kerrville, TX.

Lee Santa Maria, 88 of Kerrville,  Texas entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 14, 2003 with his family by his side. Lee was born to Italian immigrants, Fred & Angelina DePalma Santa Maria in Houston on August 1, 1914. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister and one infant grandchild, Angela Hartmann. He grew up in Houston on the family farm with his brothers Joe and Albert and sister Jemina McCue. Lee met and married his wife of 62 years, Lula Bransford. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII and upon discharge Lee and Lula returned to make their home in Houston where they lived and raised their family. Upon retirement, they moved to Kerrville where he continued to enjoy farming and gardening for the next 23 years. Lee was an active member of the Father Henry Kemper Knights of Columbus, Council No. 6409. He and Lula spent much of their free time volunteering for their church, Notre Dame Catholic Church of Kerrville. Santa Maria, as he was called by friends, was a generous and loving man who was always ready to lend a hand to someone in need. His lifetime hobby of gardening supplied many a friends’ tables with fresh vegetables and beautiful flowers.

Lee is survived by his loving wife, Lula Santa Maria; his five children, Carolyn Herrick and husband Kent of Kerrville, Theresa Peoples and husband Larry of Hutto, Mary of Hawaii, Fred and wife Karen of Plano and Margie Hartmann and husband Tom of Houston; 13 grandchildren, Danny, Andrew, Michelle, Jonathon and Nick Peoples, Kris Herrick and Katy Strayhorn, Audra McFadden, Cara Santa Maria, Sara and Kelsey Davis, Caroline and Madeline Hartmann as well as several nieces and nephews.

The Rosary will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 15 followed by a Funeral Mass at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 16, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Raphael Free Clinic in Kerrville. Lee is growing flowers for The Lord that will never fade.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.

Henry John Schonberg
Born in Findley, ND on June 7, 1926

Mr. Henry John Schonberg, Age 78, of Kerrville,  Texas, died on Friday, August 13, 2004, in a Kerrville hospital. Mr. Schonberg, a resident of Kerrville since 1970 and a prior resident of Fredericksburg, was born on June 7, 1926 in Findley, North Dakota, to Henry John Schonberg and Merle Vivian Combs Schonberg.
Henry served his country faithfully during World War II in the United States Army. He was a disabled Veteran. Henry was a member of the Country Community Church.

He married Nina Mae Sutton on June 10, 1974, in Kerrville,  Texas.

Survivors, Wife, Mrs. Mae Schonberg of Kerrville; Three daughters, Gloria Lamb of Morgan, Linda Molter of Fredericksburg and Carol Cornehl of Fredericksburg; one son, Daniel Schonberg of Fredericksburg; three sisters, Floy Gustafson of Arroyo Grande, California, Edythe Sutton of Milaca, Minnesota and Nancy Thorsell of Ontario, California; Grandchildren, Rio Schonberg of San Antonio, Chad Molter of Ingram, Matthew Molter of Lometa, Jarrod Cornehl of San Francisco, California, Trenton Cornehl of Lubbock, Sage Schonberg and Ara Schonberg, both of Fredericksburg; 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Eckhardt, a son, Dennis Schonberg; two sisters, Doris Walters and Peggy Wutke; and one grandchild, Levi Lamb.

The family will receive friends at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville on Sunday, August 15, 2004, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Funeral services, 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 16, 2004, Grimes Funeral Chapels, Kerrville,  Texas, with Rev. David Dodge, officiating. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Fredericksburg,  Texas.

Memorial remembrances may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Jeffery "Jeff" Schultz
Born in San Antonio, TX on July 5, 1961

Mr. Jeffrey "Jeff" Schultz, Age 43, of Kerrville,  Texas, died on Friday, August 6, 2004, in Kerrville,  Texas. Jeff, a longtime resident of Kerrville, was born on July 5, 1961, in San Antonio,  Texas. He was a self-employed landscaper.
Jeff graduated from Tivy High School in Kerrville in 1979. He was also President of the Tivy Band.

Survivors, Parents, Rob and Dee Robinson of Kerrville; Brothers, Gary Schultz of Gaston, Oregon and Larry Schultz of San Antonio; Loving partner, Linda Ferris of Kerrville; and by many loving friends.

Funeral services, 10:00 A. M., Monday, August 9, 2004, Grimes Funeral Chapels, with Dr. John Petty of Trinity Baptist Church, Officiating. Interment to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Francis Scott
Born in San Pier Niceto, Sicily, Italy on May 1, 1911

Mr. Francis Scott, age 92 of Kerrville, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at his residence. He was born May 1, 1911 in San Pier Niceto, Sicily, Italy to Joseph Scott and Josephine Marzo Scott. He married Mary Catherine Smida in Orwell, Ohio on July 3, 1940.

The Scott family came to American in 1912. Francis was a Rotarian in  Pennsylvania and Kerrville. He was an active Retreatant at the Acts Retreat of 1999 at Notre Dame Church. Mr. Scott was in the produce business, along with his father and three brothers. His father passed away in 1954. He and his brothers were then in the frozen food storage business and bowling alley proprietors.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Scott of Kerrville; two daughters, Rosemary Suess and husband, Gene of Kerrville and Patricia Prussia and husband, William of Youngstown, OH; two sons, Francis Scott and wife, Catherine of LaGrange, KY, and John E. Scott and wife, Kristine of Sharon, PA; three brothers, Joseph L. Scott and Samuel Scott, both of Sharpsville, PA and Anthony Scott of Masury, OH; 10 grandchildren, Martin Scott, Christopher Scott, Sarah (Scott) Rottinghaus, Catherine (Suess) Nilsson, David Suess, Scott Prussia, Adam Prussia, Rebecca Prussia, Jeffrey Scott and Kate Elizabeth Scott; 5 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brendan, and Alaina Scott and Cecilia and Nicholas Nilsson; and 17 nieces & nephews.

A vigil service will take place, Thursday, May 22, 2003, 6:00 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels with Father Mike Boulette presiding.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 23, 2003, 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Father Mike Boulette as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Notre Dame School Endowment Fund, 907 Main St., Kerrville, TX 78028.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.

May Dell Shaeffer
Born in Tallassee, AL on November 21, 1908

Mrs. May Dell Shaeffer, age 94 of Kerrville, passed away Monday, September 8, 2003 at a local nursing home. She was born in Tallassee, AL on November 21, 1908 to Simon and Leora (Cox) Johnson.

May had been a resident of Kerrville since 1972 and a prior resident of Crystal City, TX. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Eastern Star. She was an avid bridge player and won a bronze medal at the senior games playing bridge in April.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Porter of Kerrville; sister in law, Annette Shaeffer Winn; granddaughter, Linda Carroll of Kerrville; two great grandchildren, Jesse and Owen Carroll, both of Kerrville and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. May was preceded in death by her husband, David C. Shaeffer in 1980 and her son in law, Wayne L. Porter in 1999.

Services will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2003, 2:30 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels, officiated by Rev. Dr. Buran F. Phillips and Chuck Kimbell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.
