Mary Ellen Cooper Anderson Rhyne Herrell, 83, of Claxton, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000.
Mrs. Herrell is survived by her children, Steve Anderson and his wife, Mary Ruth, of Claxton, Janice Kay Compton and her husband, William, of Atlanta, Ga., Betty Pilkay and her husband, Jerry, of San Jose, Calif., Ken Herrell and his wife, Linda, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Norma Devall and her husband, Mitch, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Peggy Bowne and her husband, Ed, and Jackie Herrell, all of Claxton.
She is also survived by her brother, Calvin Cooper and his wife, Lorene, of Fort Lauderdale.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Feb. 7, at Calvary Baptist Church in Heiskell, with the Rev. Harold Ogle officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Bishopville Cemetery in Heiskell.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 1452, Knoxville, TN 37901; or to Calvary Baptist Church of Heiskell.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the church.

Bessie Skinner Kyaw
Lake City resident
Bessie Skinner Kyaw, 82, of Lake City, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Kyaw was a resident of Lake City and the mother of Joann Bowers.
She was born in Charlotte, N.C., on Oct. 6, 1917, the daughter of Theodore and Clara E. Moore Skinner. She was a member of Glenwood Presbyterian Church in Charlotte.
Mrs. Kyaw's favorite hobbies were sewing clothing for her grandchildren and raising flowers, her family said.
She was the widow of Walter Kyaw Jr.
In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, Reid Bowers, she is survived by two sons, Walter Paul Kyaw III of Harrisburg, N.C. and David Vernon Kyaw and his wife, Judy, of Wilmington, Del.; her brother-in-law, Edward Kyaw of Burlington, N.C.; and by nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Her sister, Elizabeth Houser, and three brothers, Robert Skinner, Ted Skinner and Bill Skinner, died earlier.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Charlotte. The Rev. Tom Byrge will officiate.
Friends may call at their convenience after noon today, Feb. 7, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City.
Mary Dye Rector Bell
Former Oak Ridge resident
Mary Dye Rector Bell, 80, of Kingston, died Sunday morning, Feb. 6, 2000, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Bell was born in Clarksdale, Miss., on Oct. 21, 1919. She was the great-granddaughter of Henry Massey Rector, a pre-Civil War governor of Arkansas, and James Lusk Alcorn, a governor of Mississippi and founder of Alcorn State University.
She lived in Hot Springs, Ark., until she married Burwell Baxter "B.B." Bell Jr. of Shawboro, N.C. on Oct. 9, 1943. In the summer of 1944, she and her husband joined many other families in Oak Ridge, where her husband worked as part of World War II's Manhattan Project. The Bells lived here many years and raised their family here.
In the middle 1950s, the Bell family established a summer home on the banks of Watts Bar Lake. Mrs. Bell and her husband moved there permanently after he retired.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one sister, Rosebud; her daughter, Dr. Amelia Rector Bell Knight; her son, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Burwell Baxter Bell III; her granddaughter and namesake, Mary Amelia Lowery; her grandsons, Richard Adrian Walker III and Burwell Baxter Bell IV; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
In accordance with Mrs. Bell's wishes, the body was cremated. A memorial service is planned for early spring.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to a charity of the donor's choice.

Cletus Ronald Owens
Son-in-law of Kingston resident
Cletus Ronald Owens, 59, of Metropolis, Ill., died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Owens was the son-in-law of Ethel Stubbs DeVault of Kingston.
He was born Sept. 25, 1940, in Metropolis, the son of Cletus Edward and Nell Rose Moreland Owens, who are deceased.
Mr. Owens had worked as an electrician before becoming ill.
In addition to his mother-in-law, he is survived by his wife, Kay DeVault Owens; his son, Kit Owens of Metropolis; two stepsons, Blaire Lipert of Metropolis and Dirk Lipert and his wife, Kirsten, of Spring Hill; and five grandchildren, Kaly Owens, Kyler Owens, Jessica Lipert, Victoria Lipert and Taylor Lipert.
Mr. Owens is also survived by his brother, Patrick Owens of Metropolis; and by his sister, Kathy Morris and her husband, Rick, of Jupiter, Fla.
Arch Walbright and Steve Fletcher, both of Metropolis, were considered special friends.
A graveside service was to be held at 2 this afternoon, Feb. 7, at Russell Cemetery in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Kenneth Stubbs officiating.

Harold Gene Sanders
Retired Y-12 Plant machinist
Harold Gene Sanders, 62, a resident of Rockwood Health Care Center and a former resident of Key Street, Rockwood, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Roane Medical Center in Harriman.
Mr. Sanders was retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division as a machinist foreman at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and the son of William and Magnolia Sanders, who are deceased.
He was a member of Speights Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.
Mr. Sanders is survived by his son, Craig Upton of Harriman; his daughter, Candace "Candy" Eskridge and her husband, Marshall, of Rockwood; and his grandchildren, Brandon Pendergrass, Kecia Sanders, Richard Sanders, Takira Sanders, Michael Johnson, Darius Tolbert, Alexis Eskridge, Ashley Johnson, Brittany Upton, Courtney Upton, Dallas Upton and Christian Upton.
He is also survived by five sisters, Christine Hines of Dayton, Ohio, and Rosa Mae Sanders, Virginia Hamilton, Ruth Johnson and Linda Sanders, all of Rockwood; three brothers, Ralph Sanders and Charles "Bubba" Sanders, both of Rockwood, and David Sanders of Knoxville; and by 13 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Lillian Womack of Rockwood was considered a devoted friend. Rosie Badon of Rockwood was his home health nurse.
His wife, Joann Sanders, another son and daughter, Michael Sanders and Angela Kay Sanders, and a sister, Margaret Fay Sanders, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the chapel of Evans Mortuary.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood. Members of the Roane Volunteer Honor Guard will conduct full military rites.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
James Ward

James Ward, 85, of Clinton, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Ward was a member of Edgemoor Baptist Church. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 376, F & AM.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maude S. Ward; his son, Richard Scott Ward of Clinton; his daughter, Patricia Thalle and her husband, Herbert Goben, of Heiskell; his grandson, Josh Matthew Goben; his niece, Jane Souther of Louisville; and his nephews, Robert Calloway of East Flat Rock, N.C., and Freddie Calloway of Hendersonville, N.C.
The graveside service will be private.
The family was to receive friends from 2 to 5 this afternoon, Feb. 7, at Woodhaven Funeral Home, 160 Edgemoor Road, Claxton.
Billy W. Houchin
Father former Oak Ridger employee
Billy W. Houchin, 72, of Noblesville, Ind., died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville.
He was a United States Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War. He retired from Industrial Products, Firestone, in 1992 and attended Noblesville Baptist Church. He was also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Born April 20, 1930, in Lake City, Ark., he was the son of Delbert Houchin and Tava Branson Houchin, both now deceased.
Mr. Houchin is survived by his wife, Judy Houchin; his daughter, Billie Jo Brown of Noblesville; and his son Barry L. Houchin of Knoxville.
He is also survived by an uncle, Raymond Houchin of Prior, Okla.; two nephews, Eddie Houchin of Raleigh, N.C., and Tommy Houchin of Nashville; and by four grandchildren.
The funeral was held Thursday, Feb. 6, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home in Noblesville. Pastors Gene Parker and Kenneth Roberts officiated. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Noblesville.
Ray Williams
Former Oak Ridge resident
Ray Williams, 67, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at his home in Dallas, Texas.
Born March 10, 1936, in Los Angeles, Calif., he was the son of Eugene M. Williams and Mary W. Pickens Groppe, both now deceased.
The family moved to Oak Ridge in December 1945. Mr. Williams was a 1954 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, attended Auburn University and graduated from the University of Tennessee. A member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve, he attained the rank of captain.
Mr. Williams is survived by two brothers, Stanley Williams of Greenville, S.C., and Roland Williams of Marion, Va., and by his sister, Susan Williams Babb of Olive Branch, Miss.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
