GRACE M. JUDY, 99, of Taos died Tuesday.
She was born in Cedar Bluffs, Kan. Her family settled and farmed in Atwood, Kan., and in 1920 moved to Denver. In 1964, she moved to San Francisco, working as a practitioner in a nursing home. Later, this work took her to San Diego. She was dedicated to the Christian Science religion. In 2001, she became a resident of Taos Living Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Coby Judy; and son, Richard William. She is survived by her son, Robert Charles Judy and wife Marie of Taos; five grandchildren; and many other relatives. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Taos Living Center, 1340 Maestas Road in Taos. A burial and service will be held at 2:45 p.m. April 9 at Fairmount Cemetery , 430 S. MAVIS WACKERLE, 76, of Los Alamos died Sunday after a five-year battle with cancer. She grew up in small towns in Kansas, where her family owned weekly newspapers. She came with her husband to Los Alamos in 1956. She was a homemaker for her family of four children. She was an active Girl Scout leader, taking a Cadette troop on a backpack trip through the Grand Canyon, rim to rim. She enjoyed camping, and traveled all of the United States and Canada and to more than half of Mexico. She and her husband spent their golden anniversary traveling through New Zealand for a month in a rented caravan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orrin and Rosalie Browning; and sons, Mark and Bruce. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Wackerle; daughters, Lise Smith and husband Brian of Colorado, and Merry Wood and husband Chuck of Florida; four grandsons; and many other relatives. BONNEY CLIFFORD WILLIAMS, 72, of Guadalupita died Sunday. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. Afterward, he worked for a steel company in California and moved back to Guadalupita and worked for logging companies in Guadalupita, Taos and Cimarron. He was also a carpenter and spent some time building homes in Angel Fire. After he retired, he spent time with his horses. He was a member of Post No. 1131 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Mora. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Chonita Coca Williams. He is survived by his son, Carlos Williams of West Coving, Calif.; daughter, Tina Williams of Hawaii; sister, Julia Griego and husband Simon of Guadalupita; and many other relatives and friends. JOEY B. DONAHUE, 58, of Los Alamos died unexpectedly Saturday.
He was born in Culver City, Calif. His interest in science led him to pursue a doctorate in physics at the University of California, Irvine. After graduating, he worked for three years at the University of New Mexico and for one year at Brookhaven National Laboratory before settling in Los Alamos in 1978. While working at LANL, he served as both a deputy group leader and a nuclear operations manager at Los Alamos Neutron Science Center. He was involved in the design, construction and implementation of several important projects, including the High Resolution Atomic Beam Physics program, the Decay-In-Flight Neutrino Physics program and the Neutron Spallation Source for the Lujan Center.
He was a man of diverse interests. Some of his favorites were tae kwon do, autocrossing, sailing, skiing, building, history, politics, Mel Brooks, W.C. Fields and samurai movies. His greatest passion was his family. He is survived by his wife, Michelle Donahue of Los Alamos; sons, John of Albuquerque, Steve of Los Angeles, and Christopher of Kyoto, Japan; and many other relatives. CRUZITA B. MARTINEZ, 97, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Wednesday at the Vida Encantada Rehab & Nursing Center after a long illness. She was born in Ojitos Frios. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Apolonario and Emelia Barrelas; husband, Jose Martinez; two infant children; sisters, Antonia Rodriguez and Alice Montano; and brother, Urbano Rodriguez. GUY WAYNE BICKEL, 83, of Santa Fe died Saturday after a short illness.
He was born in Verdigris, Okla. His parents, O.E. "Shorty" and Allie Bickel were farmers in the Verdigris area. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in July of 1942, and served as a sergeant throughout the South Pacific on the islands of New Caledonia, New Hebrides and Guadalcanal, and participated in the defense of the Solomon Islands before being discharged in 1945. He had the spirit of the old West and loved to travel. He was a bronc rider, roper, and rancher during his years in Oklahoma. In the 1960's he became a race horse trainer. He and his wife raced horses in Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, and New Mexico. He worked on the Alaskan pipeline in the mid 1970's and then became an inspector on gas lines throughout the United States, working at his last job in Northern California the summer of 2003. He was never without a horse and rode almost every day when he was home. He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Kirby and wife Anita of Carrizozo; daughters, Jacquelin Bickel Lackey of La Palma, Calif., and Terry Lynn Bickel and husband Jim Miller of Costa Mesa, Calif.; one grandson; sister, Vicky Brasier of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and many other relatives and friends.

NANCY R. CHANDLER, 65, of White Rock died Saturday.
She was born in Mitchell, S.D. She grew up on the family farm before her parents moved to California to find better treatment for her brother who had contracted polio.
She was a sports enthusiast and played softball, basketball, tennis and field hockey. She loved to watch sports, particularly rodeo and the Denver Broncos, and she loved to cook. She had a bachelor's degree in business management. She retired from Los Alamos National lab in 1993.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis A. Dey and Marguerite R. Privet Dey.
She is survived by her children, Brett Chandler and wife Sarah, Cindy Boulden, and Joey Chandler and partner Andrea of Eugene, Ore.; three grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Desy, Janet Davis, Willis Dey and Kathleen Fernandez and husband Jim; and many other relatives.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's

RICHARD PAUL DURAN, 40, of Las Vegas, N.M. died Sunday.
He was employed at the J.R.'s Car Wash as a car wash attendant. He enjoyed fishing, boxing and watching his son and nephews play sports. He attended Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Lee Mascarenas.
He is survived by his children, Richard Paul Duran, Jr. and Sabrina Duran of Las Vegas, N.M., and Fabian Duran and Camilla Duran of Midland, Texas; mother, Carmen Duran and stepfather Louie Duran; twin sister: Pauline Duran and sister, Angela Gallegos, all of Las Vegas, N.M., Lou Ann Lucero and husband Chet Williams of Albuquerque; brother, Dennis Duran and wife Annie of Las Vegas, N.M.; and many other relatives and friends.

SECUNDINO PABLO FERNANDEZ, 74, of Wagon Mound died Friday after a long illness.
He was born in Escondida. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict as a private lst class. He retired in 1980 from the city in Raton where he was employed for 20 years in the Maintenance Department. He was a member of the Santa Clara Church in Wagon Mound. He enjoyed ranching, horseback riding, woodcarving, watching western movies on television and listening to the Spanish programs on the radio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo M. and Guadalupe Fernandez; his first wife, Molly Gallegos Fernandez; second wife, Magie Herrera Fernandez; brothers, Samuel Fernandez, Felix Fernandez, Antonio Fernandez, and Ted Fernandez; and sister, Teodorita Martinez.
He is survived by his sister, Alice of Stockton, Utah; and many other relatives and friends.
