James D. Kratzke, 66, of Redwood Falls, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Parkview Home, Belview.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with burial in Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to services.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Valerie and Bruce Sorenson of Plymouth, Scott and Mary Kratzke of Maple Grove, Tom and Jean Kratzke of Baudette, Bambi Kratzke and Gordon Schroeder of Kansas City. Mo., and Chad and Christine Kratzke of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren; brother, Emmett of Wabasso; special friend, Norma Hagert, and former wife Shirley Zimmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Jimmy; and sisters, Janis and Mary Ann.
He was born July 14, 1933, in Wabasso, to Lorenz and Rachel (Douglas) Kratzke. He graduated from Wabasso High School. He married Shirley Nelson on Feb. 14, 1952. They farmed in the Redwood Falls area. He worked for Rowena Elevator until 1963. He worked for Central Bi-Products, Long Prairie and Redwood Falls. He owned Club 101, North Redwood, and Club 101-2, Franklin. He managed the American Legion Club, Belview. He was a master at the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Eagles Club, where he was president and chaplain. He served on the Redwood Falls School Board.
Hulda M. Reese, 97, of Lafayette and formerly of Sunset Apartments in New Ulm died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Lafayette with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is noon until the time of the service at the church on Monday. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne and Eugene Abraham of Gaylord; sons and daughters-in-law, Farrell and Patsy Reese of Clinton, Iowa, Keith and Joyce Reese of Lafayette, and Milo and Georgia Reese of Salem, Ore.; 19 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Florence Reese of Olivia; a niece, Elaine and her husband Elmer Sjogren of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Reese on Oct. 27, 1969; sons, John Neil Reese on Aug. 25, 1952, Darwin Reese on Feb. 16, 1980, and Verle Michael Reese on Oct. 3, 1989; grandson, John Abraham; great-granddaughter, Wanda Geving; brothers, Alvin Fjell and Oscar Fjell; sister, Justine Fjell and three infant sisters; nephew, Roger Fjell;and 17 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
She was born April 5, 1903, in Lafayette to Erik and Anna (nee Lind) Fjell. She attended school in Lafayette. She married Howard Reese on June 1, 1924 in Mankato. They lived in Lafayette, moving to Gibbon in 1925 and returning to Lafayette in 1929. She moved to Gaylord in 1973. In 1979 she moved to Sunset Apartments in New Ulm. She became a resident of Gaylord Lakeview Home in December 1997. She is a member of First Lutheran Church in Lafayette and the American Legion Auxiliary for 55 years. She was a Gold Star Mother.
Herbert A. Schwarzrock, 87, of Springfield, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Springfield Medical Center.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield, with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Springfield.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and at the church Monday, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by a son, Dennis and Joyce of Springfield; a foster daughter Frances of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren, a sister, Bernice and Alfred Schenk of Springfield; a brother-in-law Lewis Hansen of Mahnomen, nieces and nephews and several foster children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mabel, and sisters Edna, Esther, and Elnora.
He was born Nov. 25, 1912 to Edward and Louise (Helle) Schwarzrock in Springfield. He married Mabel Hoglund Oct. 31, 1936 in Shakopee. They moved to Hollywood, Calif. in 1941. He worked at a defense plant during World War II. After the war, they moved to Mahnomen for three years before moving to Springfield in 1945. They owned and operated Herb's Skelly from 1953 until 1960. They purchased the Home Cafe in 1966 and operated it until 1969. He was a custodian at F&M Bank for 18 years and at Zion Lutheran Church for 15 years. He belonged to Zion Lutheran Church and was a member of the Lutheran Layman's League and served in the church cemetery board.
John D. Turtle, 63, of rural Mankato, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at his home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapidan, with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Rapidan.
Visitation will be 5:30-8 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and at the church Monday, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife Joan; two daughters, Patti Jean and Rick Boser of Mound and Vicki Lynne Turtle and Tim Overas of Mankato; eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, three aunts, Lillian Hanson of St. Peter, Florence and Jake Schuck of North Mankato, Lucille Turtle of Mankato; sister-in-law Judy and Bernie Koenigs of Eagle Lake and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born Nov. 20, 1936 in Minneapolis to John and Clara (Gilbertson) Turtle. He married Joan Jovaag April 6, 1956 in Mankato. He was self-employed in television sales and as a service technician for over 30 years. He did repair and maintenance work at Randall Foods Value Center. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, served as a councilman and on various church committees.
Erna Jaeger, 91, formerly of 1021 N. Garden S., in New Ulm died Monday, May 15, 2000, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Concord, Wis.
There will be no reviewal. The family will receive relatives and friends for one hour before the service at the church. Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Pastor Arnold Koelpin of New Ulm; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Oestreich of New Ulm; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Isabelle and Ray Schuelke of Watertown, Wis.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence, on Aug. 14, 1973; brothers, Hermann Otto and Carl Otto; and sisters, Frieda Schuelke, Esther Marcks, and Emily Frank.
She was born Dec. 4, 1908, in Medford, Wis., to August and Ernstina (Baumann) Otto. She attended school in Watertown, Wisconsin. On Sept. 10, 1930, she married Lawrence Jaeger at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Watertown, Wis., She held various jobs around Watertown and Oconomowoc, Wis. She moved to New Ulm in the fall of 1977. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, and a past member of the Ladies Aid at church, Dr. Martin Luther College Auxiliary, and New Ulm Senior Citizens.
The family prefers memorials to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
Warren Larson, 79, of Winthrop, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at Arlington Municipal Hospital.
Services are 9 a.m. Wednesday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop, with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today, and will continue one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
He was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Odin, to Lars H. and Bertina (Bertilsen) Larson. He grew up in the Odin area, where he attended school. He worked as a truck driver near Odin. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in the Blackduck area for 18 months. He entered the U.S. Army on July 14, 1942, and served during World War II in New Guinea and the Phillipines. He was discharged on Jan. 5, 1946. He lived in Faribault, where he drove a gas truck for two years. He purchased and drove his own gas truck for four years. He moved to California, where he worked on aircraft. He overhauled engines and was a chief inspector. He returned to Minnesota in 1981 and moved into Sibley Estates Apartments in 1982. He was a member of Winthrop American Legion Post 314.
Douglas Strand, 69 of Wabasso died Monday, May 15, 2000, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Wabasso with burial in the church Cemetery, Waterbury Township.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before the services Thursday at the church. Sunset Funeral Home of Wabasso is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Ardyce of Wabasso; sons, Michael Strand and his wife Jane of Lamberton, Milan Strand and his wife Julie of Wabasso; daughters, LouAnn Zieske and her husband Don of New London, Lynette Bernardy and her husband Ron of Olivia; 11 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, David Staumann of Golden Valley, Karen Kreft and her husband Herb of Vesta, Carol Maasch and her husband Jerry of Vesta, Michael Straumann and his wife Barb of Belview, and DeAnn Hunter and her husband Jack of Luxemburg, and her husband Jack of Luxemburg, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lila; stepfather, Albert Straumann; and an infant sister.
He was born Dec. 12,1930, in Sacred Heart. He lived in Sacred Heart until moving to Johnsonville Township in 1937 with his mother Lila and stepfather Albert Straumann. He attended rural schools and Wabasso High School. On Oct. 10, 1915, he married Ardyce Jean Lawrenz in Granite Fall. They lived in Lucan, Vesta, Johnsonville Township and Waterbury Township until moving into Wabasso in 1962. He owned and operated the Strand Diesel Service in Wabasso for 30 years retiring in 1993. He belonged to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and as president of the council. He served on the Wabasso City Council from 1981 until 1989 and as mayor of Wabasso from 1989 until 1993. He also served on the Southwest Regional Development Board in 1992-93 and on the advisory board of SW Tech Institute. He was a charter member of the Wabasso Lions Club and the Commercial Club.
Victor Berger, 80, of Hector, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Good Samaritan Center, Redwood Falls.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Visitation starts at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his brother, Alvin Berger of Redwood Falls; stepdaughter, Marilyn and husband Harvey Exsted of Isle; stepsons, Jerry Elling of Isle, Randy Elling of Willmar and Daniel Elling of Willmar; several stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Esther; brother, Vernhardt; sisters, Meta, Martha, Annie, Erna, Alvina, Hertha and Elvira.
He was born Sept. 16, 1919, to Gustov and Augusta (Kley) Berger in Martinsburg Township in Renville County. He attended country school in Wellington Township. He served with the U.S. Army in Alaska during World War II. He married Esther Elling on Nov. 1, 1963 in Hector. They lived in Hector, Morton, and Fairfax before retiring in Olivia. He worked for many farmers in the Hector and Buffalo Lake area. He later moved to Morton and worked at a charcoal plant, then moved back to Hector where he worked at the tile plant and at Bonniwell Implement in Buffalo Lake.
Charlotte 'Charlie' (Mrs. Sheldon) Pearse, 57, of rural Hanska died Monday, May 15, 2000 at her home of cancer.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-9 p.m. Thursday and 7:30- 8:30 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour before the service Friday at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Sheldon F. Pearse of rural Hanska; mother, Erma Wacker of New Ulm; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky Lynn and Mike Dwyer of New Hope; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Tawn Pearse of Stewartville, Daniel and Heidi Pearse of Judson; seven grandchildren; mother-in-law, Sylvia Pearse of Hanska; and brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Sherri Wacker of Austin, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Wacker on April 9, 2000; son, Scott Pearse in August of 1970; an infant sister and brother; and father-in-law, Forrest Pearse in January of 1970.
She was born on March 7, 1943, in New Ulm to Henry and Erma (Hamann) Wacker. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran Grade School and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1961. She attended D.M.L.C. in New Ulm for one year and then taught in Milwaukee, Wis., for one year. She married Sheldon Pearse on Aug. 3, 1963, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. For three years, they lived in Texas where her husband was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. They then moved to Courtland. Since 1982 they have been residing in rural Hanska. She worked at Tachtronics, J.C. Penney and Kmart. For the past 10 years she had been employed at A.U.I. in Sleepy Eye. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm and American Legion Auxiliary in Hanska.
Helena Turbes, 68, of Redwood Falls, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at Redwood Falls Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Wabasso, with burial in St. Mathias Catholic Cemetery, Wanda.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. There will be a parish rosary at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, George and Jerome.
She was born Jan. 4, 1932, n Winfield Township, Renville County, to James and Emma (Swoboda) Spevacek. She grew up near Olivia, where she attended country school. She graduated from Olivia High School in 1950. She worked as a telephone operator until 1959. She married George Turbes on June 6, 1959 in Olivia. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Ligouri Catholic Church, Alpla, and a former member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Wabasso.
Steve Miklos, 83, of Fairfax, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at Fairfax Community Nursing Home.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, Fairfax with burial at Fort Ridgely and Dale Cemetery in Camp Township.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday at Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax, and at the church Thursday, one hour prior to the service.

He was born April 9, 1917, in Selby, S.D., to Loy and Elizabeth (Simon) Miklos. He married Arlene Buboltz on Nov. 28, 1944, in Fairfax. The couple lived in Fairfax where he worked as a mason for Hinderman and later Deming Construction of Fairfax. He retired in 1980. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax.
