JACOBS, CONSTANCE "CORA"
A retired restaurant owner, who was the first black in Crowley to own and operate her own business, the Blue Heaven Café. She stayed in business for 20 years. Mrs. Jacobs later worked as a housekeeper at the rectory of St. Teresa Catholic Church for 20 years after closing her restaurant. A resident of Crowley, she died at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. She was 106 and a native of Breaux Bridge. Visiting at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Crowley, from 9 a.m. until recitation of the rosary at 9:45 a.m. Monday. Mass of Christian Burial at the church at 10 a.m. Monday, celebrated by the Rev. Richard Sadlier, S.S.J. Entombment in Old Crowley Cemetery. Survived by two daughters, Margaret J. Walker of Crowley and Jessie J. Lumbard of Baton Rouge; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Jacobs Sr.; two sons, Harvey Jacobs Jr. and Wilbert Jacobs; 10 sisters and three brothers. Pallbearers will be Michael L. Lumbard, Anthony E. Lumbard, Donald J. Lumbard, Eric Jacobs, Gregory Jacobs and Leon Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Broussard, Roosevelt J. Stevenson, Anthony J. Stevenson, Alton J. Stevenson, Rodger Moultry, Wilbert Jacobs, Byron Jacobs and members of the Altar and St. Joseph societies of St. Teresa Catholic Church. She was a former board member of the Council on Aging in Crowley, former member of the Council on Aging Pokeno Club and a member of the Altar Society and St. Joseph Society at St. Teresa Catholic Church. She received special awards from former President Bill Clinton, former Gov. Edwin Edwards and the mayor of Crowley and a certificate of appreciation for dedicated services in the church and community from the senior citizens of Bethel CME Church. Her hobbies included cooking, gardening and flowers and going to church. Winnfield Funeral Home of Baton Rouge in charge of arrangements.

KENNEDY, HENRY LEONARD "CAPTAIN DOC"
A retired charter boat captain and a resident of Brusly, he died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 74 and lived a long and happy life fishing in the Gulf of Mexico on his charter boat, the "Wahoo." Doc holds the world record for his 50 pound 4 ounce red snapper caught in the Gulf of Mexico and is registered in the Guinness Book of World Records. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lucille "Lou" Kennedy; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cathryn Kennedy Braud and her husband, John E. Braud, Nicki Kennedy Fontenot, and her husband, Joseph T. Fontenot, and Josephine "Jolen" Kennedy Gauthreaux, and her husband, Lloyd Gauthreaux; five grandsons, Christopher Braud, Troy and Gabe Fontenot and Cory and Dell Gauthreaux; two granddaughters, Amy Hackney and Lauren Braud; four great-grandsons, Cody Braud, Randy Leonard and Kevin Hackney and Jacques' Fontenot; three great-granddaughters, Jessica Braud and Cathryn and Tiffany Hackney; a brother, C.J. Kennedy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his daughter, Jackie Denise Kennedy; mother, Flossie Leonard Kennedy; father, Forrest Kennedy; brothers, Earl, Carl, Vannie, Connie, Forrest and Ed Kennedy. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and in Greenoaks Funeral Chapel from 8:30 a.m. until services at 10 a.m. Monday. MOWRY, MARILYN
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she Passed away at her home on Nov. 14, 2001, at age 55, after a long and fulfilling life, in spite of her lifelong struggle with diabetes. She was born in Rochester, N.Y., and earned a bachelor of arts degree from Postdam State University. She married her childhood sweetheart, Steve Mowry, in 1964, and moved to Buffalo, N.Y., where she was a Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Braves cheerleader. Later they moved to Cincinatti, where she worked at Miami University in career planning and placement and as an administrative assistant. While living in Atlanta, she was a corporate travel coordinator at TIMCO, which she continued to work for after moving to Baton Rouge. She and Steve have been living at the Country Club of Louisiana for the past seven years. Marilyn was a member of the Newcomers Club, Encore Club, Garden Club, Property Owners Association of the Country Club of Louisiana and many bridge clubs. She is survived by her parents, Clarence and Peggy Rugg of Fort Pierce, Fla.; husband, Steve; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Russell and Peggy Mowry of Cincinnati, Scott Mowry of Atlanta, and Todd Mowry of Baton Rouge; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and A.C. Ceriotti of Pompano Beach, Fla., Bonnie and Ken Hobcroft of Sterling, Va., and Patti and Bruce Texeira of Long Island, N.Y.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Kathy Rugg of Syracuse, N.Y., and Bill and Dee Rugg of Mount Sterling, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Rachel. Visiting at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd., from 2 p.m. Sunday until memorial services at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Diabetes Foundation or Crippled Children's Center.

NEZAT, HOWARD "PEE-WEE"
A retired employee of Uniroyal Chemical and a resident of Opelousas, he died at 8:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at Opelousas General Hospital. He was 82 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal and American Theatre Service Medal. Visiting at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home, Old Sunset Highway, Opelousas, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with recitation of the rosary at 4 p.m.. Visiting at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Monday. Religious services at St. Landry Catholic Church at 9 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Eugene Tremie. Graveside services in Port Hudson National Cemetery, Zachary, at 2 p.m. Monday. Survived by his wife, Dorothy Prejean Nezat of Opelousas; four sons, Jerry Nezat and wife Carolyn and David Nezat and wife Toni, all of Baton Rouge, Tommy Nezat and wife Mel of Orlando, Fla., and Kenny Nezat and wife Robin of Shelton, Conn.; two daughters, Judi Garrett and husband Dave of Fort Worth, Texas , and Loretta Brocato and husband Mike of Patterson; a brother, Herbert Nezat of Port Barre; two brothers-in-law, Buddy Moreau and wife Lou Ann of Opelousas, and Larry Wojtasik; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his first wife, Rosemary Moreau Nezat; his parents, René Andre and Celonise Morain Nezat; and a sister, Irene Nezat Wojtasik. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kelly Nezat, Rhett Garrett, Joey Garrett, Kevin Garrett, Sean Nezat, Seth Nezat, Jason Nezat, Brett Nezat, Michael Brocato, Lyle Brocato, Chris Nezat and Kyle Nezat. In lieu of flowers, enrollment of Masses or donations to St. Landry Catholic Church preferred.

NORTHCUTT, ABBIE FAYE
"For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him: Therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord. And he worshipped the Lord there." 1 Samuel 1:27-28 A resident of Ethel, she died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001. Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary, from 11:30 a.m. Monday until religious services at 2 p.m. Graveside services in Muleshoe Memorial Park, Muleshoe, Texas , at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Survived by her parents, Mark and JoRonda Northcutt of Ethel; and her brothers, Dustin and Nathan, who were triplets with her, and Ethan Northcutt. Memorial donations may be made to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge.

SCOTT, YOLANDA KELLY
A cook and an employee of Express 1 Stop, Zachary, and a resident of Ethel, she died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary. She was 25 and a native of Slaughter. Visiting at Richardson Funeral Home, Clinton, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. Religious services at New Hope Baptist Church, Blairstown, at 7 p.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Horace London. Dismissal Tuesday. interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Wilson. Survived by her husband, Leon Scott; father, Johnny Kelly Sr. of Slaughter; a sister, Belinda Kelly of Slaughter; a godsister, Robin Hills of Slaughter; and three brothers, Johnny Kelly Jr. of Ethel and Sharonne and Kelvin Kelly, both of Slaughter. Preceded in death by her mother, Lillian M. Kelly; paternal grandfather, Nathan Kelly Sr.; maternal grandparents, Liza and Johnny McKnight; four uncles and two aunts. She was a graduate of Clinton High School.

SPARACINO, MARY GULINO
A homemaker and a resident of Brittany, she died at 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in Baton Rouge. She was 84 and a native of Amite. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. Visiting at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Prairieville, from 9:30 a.m. until religious services at 10:30 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Vic Panaligan. interment in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Louise and Marvin Bullion, Prairieville; a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald Sr. and Edana Sparacino, Brittany; three sisters, Rosalie Rumby, Colorado, and Virginia Dunn and Loretta Gulino, both of Hammond; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Sparacino; parents, John and Sara Mulé Sparacino; a sister, Pauline Catalanotto; three brothers, Crio, Sam and Louie Gulino; and a grandson, Gerald "Chris" Sparacino.

STEVENS, KLEVE F. "KINGFISH"
A retired machinist with Exxon Co. USA, he died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at his residence in Baton Rouge. He was 61 and a native of Baton Rouge. Visiting was at Hollabaugh-Spindle Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Visiting in the funeral home chapel from 8:30 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m. Sunday. Burial in Buetoville Cemetery, Ethel. Survived by his wife, Veronica Hayes Stevens of Baton Rouge; father-in-law, Ed Hayes; a son and daughter-in-law, Darin and Laurie Stevens; two daughters, Terry and husband Poncho Heintze, and Pam Bourgoyne; four stepchildren, Stephanie and Sonja Boudreaux, Tara Oubre and Jack Boudreaux; five grandchildren, Ashli and April Heintze, Eric Melancon Jr. and Logan and Jessie Stevens; five stepgrandchildren, Blake Pino, Jordan Pino, Rebecca Lindsey, Elijah Oubre and Xander Boudreaux; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his first wife, Jill Celestine Stevens; mother, Eva Arceneaux Stevens; and father, Clyde C. Stevens. Pallbearers will be Kurtis Stevens, Steven Celestin, Mike Gaudet, Bubba Burns, Kirby Celestin, Eric Melancon Jr. and Brad Schexnayder. VALENTINE, HUEY DAYTON
A retired builder and a resident of Greenwell Springs, he died at 2 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, in Greenwell Springs. He was 73 and a native of Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visiting at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Visiting at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Robertson. interment in Milldale Baptist Church Cemetery, Zachary. Survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Laverne Addison Valentine; two daughters, Carolyn Haynes of Walker and Dianne Baker of Breaux Bridge; two sons, Lawrence Valentine and Douglas Valentine, both of Denham Springs; two sisters, Lucille McMurray of Baton Rouge and Julia Mohr of Farmington, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Edna Valentine; a sister, Avis Crawford; and five brothers, Byrd, Eugene, Bill, Kernan and Ernest Valentine. Weatherford of San Leandro, Calif., and Cizar C.A. Weatherford of Baton Rouge; four sisters, Laurence Guidry, Rosa Joubert, Theresa Poppas and Regina Venable; a brother, Freddie Credeur; five stepdaughters, Paula Tullos of Denham Springs, Laura McChig of Baton Rouge, Mora Lee Morgan of Gonzales, Luana Kramer of Twinging, Mich., and Charlott Kirksey of Beckville, Texas ; four stepsons, Homer Whitney Jr. of Bath, Mich., Jeffery Whitney and Martin Whitney, both of Denham Springs, and Jason Whitney of Twinging; 36 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. WILLIAMS, DR. EVY GULLET THE REV.
A retired minister and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 12:10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Sterling Place. She was 106 and a native of New Iberia. Visiting at Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. Tuesday until religious services at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Roger D. Lathan. interment in St. Matthews Cemetery, New Iberia. Survived by loving and devoted cousins, Kathleen and Thomas Hutcherson, Jennie F. Foreman of New Iberia, Ernest W. Brown of Toronto, Ontario Canada, Myrtle G. Wright of Alexandria, Va., Gladys G. Sam of Houston; and a host of other family and friends. Preceded in death by her husband, George B. Williams; parents, Lawrence and Josephine Gullett; sisters and brothers. She was a graduate of Douglas and Howe Institutes in New Iberia, Temple Christian Seminary, where she earned her Doctor of Divinity degree, Charette School of Design, Beverly Hills, Calif., and Biola College, LaMirada, Calif. Rhodes United Fidelity Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

WRIGHT, WILLIAM ULRIC
A resident of Columbia, Mo., he died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, in Columbia. He was born Dec. 16, 1911, in West Feliciana Parish to William Perkins and Nell McQueen Wright. Religious services at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia, at 2 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. Richard Ramsey. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. On April 30, 1938, he married Edith Rogillio in Jackson , and she survives. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, and Louisiana Retired State Employees Association. He worked for Ethyl Corp. in Baton Rouge for eight years, from 1939 to 1947. In 1947, he returned to Jackson and worked for the state of Louisiana as a farm supervisor. In 1963, he became manager of the farms at East Louisiana State Hospital. In 1967 he retired, and in 1992 moved to Columbia, where his son taught at Stephens College. Other survivors include a granddaughter, Beth Zobel of Seattle; a daughter-in-law, Linda B. Wright of Columbia; two great-grandsons, Benjamin and David Zobel; and two cousins. Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Erwin Wright; a brother, John Wright; and a sister, Oreka Norwood. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 16 Hitt St., Columbia, MO 65201.

ANDERSON, DORA MAE JARREAU
A homemaker and a resident of Lafayette, she died at 8:50 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in Lafayette. She was 70 and a native of Livonia. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, celebrated by the Rev. Phil Spano. interment in Roselawn Memorial Park, Baton Rouge. Survived by four daughters, Linda Thomassee, Leonville, Norma Wiltz, Henderson, Kethy Manuel, Rayne, and Pat Braud, Geismar; a sister, Fannie Jarreau, Baker; two brothers, Albert Jarreau, Prairieville, and John Jarreau, Chalmette; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph Anderson; parents, Albert and Louella Latiolais Jarreau; and a brother, J.C. Jarreau. Pallbearers will be Larry Wiltz Jr., Johnny Plumb, Broc Manuel, Brook Credeur, John "Jay" Braud, Roby Braud, J.C. "T-Boy" Jarreau Jr. and Oneal Anderson.
