Mary Elizabeth Mote Horne, 77, of Canton, Georgia went peacefully home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 25, 2007.
Born in Tampa, Florida, she lived many places during her husband’s service career but spent her last years in the Hickory Flat, Georgia area being a loving mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years Robert E. Horne; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. Jr. and Kate Horne of Whitefish, Montana and Stephen and Nancy Horne of Canton, Georgia; 6 grandchildren, Caroline and Andy Sirmon and Matthew and Amanda Horne all of Woodstock, GA, Elizabeth Horne and Timothy Horne of Canton, GA, and Thomas Hlavacek and William Hlavacek of Montana; three great-grandchildren, Madison and Sarah Horne and McKenzie Sirmon all of Woodstock, GA.; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Joe Clark of Sipsey, AL.; brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Margie Mote of Pisgah Forest, NC.; one aunt and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers.
Mrs. Horne was cremated and a memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21st at Holly Springs UMC where she and her husband were members. Rev. Stephen Horne and Rev. Doc Hall will be officiating. Mr. Dennis Lee Haynes Jr., age 64, of Canton, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2007 from the Kindred Hospital Atlanta.

Mr. James C. Harshbarger, Jr., age 78, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., formerly of Ball Ground, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2007.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2007 from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kasey Kiper and Rev. Larry Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Cherokee Memorial Park in Canton. The family will receive friends after 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the funeral home.
Mr. Harshbarger served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired truck driver with Roadway Express and a member of Ball Ground United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Harshbarger of Murfreesboro, TN.; sons, Michael Harshbarger of Canton, Douglas Harshbarger of Jasper and Danny Harshbarger of Murfreesboro, TN; daughter, Mary Jane Harshbarger of Murfreesboro, TN; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Wellsely Howard McDowell, age 49, of the Clayton Community, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008 from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Randy Cloer officiating. Interment will follow in Cherokee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends after 3:00 p.m. Thursday and all day Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. McDowell was a logger. He was Baptist.

Mrs. Grace Thompson, age 82, of Canton, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Serenity Gate.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 3 p.m. from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Elisa Harres officiating. Burial was in Briar Patch cemetery.
Mrs. Thompson was a retired real estate agent and a member of World Harvest Church.

Mr. Ronald Joseph Golen, age 65, of Waleska, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the Northside Cherokee Hospital. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6:00 until 10:00 p.m. at Sosebee Funeral Home.

Mr. Golen was a Army Veteran and a avid deer hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Madge Golen of Waleska, son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Allen and Lisa Golen of Monroe, Michigan, Grandsons, Jared and Jordan Golen of Monroe, Michigan also survive.

Mr. Dewey George Holloway, age 94, of Canton, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 from the Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Ware and Rev. Calvin Grogan officiating. Interment will follow in the Cherokee Memorial Park.
Mr. Holloway was a Deacon and member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sons, Ed Holloway of Canton, Huey Holloway of Jasper, Thomas Holloway of Canton, and Talmedge Holloway of Holly Springs, daughters, Pauline Jackson of Woodstock, Martha Holloway of Holly Springs, and Eunice Brannon of Holly Springs, 19 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren also survive.

James L. Hogan
James L. Hogan, 79, of Oxford died November 26 at Atlanta Medical Center. Born in Morgan County to the late H. Grady Sr. and Mary Clair Hawk Hogan, he was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from Kroger as produce manager after 30 years of service.
Mr. Hogan was a member of Covington First Baptist Church, Newton Hayriders Square Dance Club, Newton Medical Center Auxiliary and Lawrenceville Masonic Lodge where he was presented a 50-year membership certificate.
He is survived by his brothers and sister-in-law, H. Grady Hogan Jr. of Covington and Bobby J. and Rachel Hogan of Thomaston; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Elaine E. Taylor of Covington; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 29 at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, Covington with Rev. Len Strozier officiating and interment was in Madison City Cemetery.

Edna Fielding Pugh, 74, died Wednesday, November 28.
A former resident of Morgan County, she is survived by her daughter, Barbara Pugh Schwab of Watkinsville and three grandchildren.
No services have been planned at this time.

Catherine Claudette Vaughters Casper
Catherine Claudette Vaughters Casper, 67, of Madison, died November 30. She was born May 23, 1940 to Claude Jackson Vaughters and Jessie Estelle Lynch Vaughters. She grew up in Morgan County but spent most of her life in the Hapeville area.
She worked for many years as a waitress. She enjoyed reading and her flower gardens. Since returning to Morgan County nine years ago, she has attended Faith Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Vickie Garcia and a son, John Thomas Shepherd, Jr.; three grandchildren, Briana Gallo-Garia, John Thomas Shepherd, III and Shaun Timothy Shepherd, a brother, James Jackson Vaughters. A sister, Martha Annette Vaughters, preceded her in death.
The funeral service was held in the chapel of A. E. Carter Funeral Home Monday, December 3 at 2 p.m. Interment followed at Madison City Cemetery. Rev. Stacy Carver officiated and was assisted by Rev. Thomas Ghann.

Frances Arthur
Yearwood
Frances Arthur Yearwood, 82, of the Greshamville Community in Greene County, died Friday, November 30 at The Retreat in Monticello. Born in Morgan County on August 5, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Grady Ernest Arthur and Iona Lankford Arthur. She graduated from Madison High School and from Business School in Madison under Mrs. Fears. For awhile she was the secretary for Kay Tipton Law Offices in Madison. Mrs. Yearwood was a member of Fork Chapel United Methodist Church in Greshamville and enjoyed cooking and reading.
She is survived by her husband, John Burke "Pete" Yearwood, of the Greshamville Community; two daughters, Peggy Leach of Monticello and Dianne Yearwood of the Greshamville Community; a brother, Ernest Arthur of Madison; six grandchildren, Laurie Robinson, Amy Hart, Brad Moon, Kelly Moon, John Moon and Kerry Moon; five great grandchildren, Erica Hart, Benjamin Hart, Bethany Hart, Will Robinson and Kate Robinson; and a host of other relatives and friends. A son, John Arthur “Jay” Yearwood, preceded her in death.
Graveside services were held Sunday, December 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Watkinsville City cemetery with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Jeff Hart, Jason Robinson, Brad Moon, John Moon, Jerry Moon and Robert Taylor.

Charles Edgar Clark
Charles Edgar Clark, age 95, of Jasper County, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at the Madison Health & Rehab in Madison.
Mr. Clark was born in Delta, Alabama to the late Steven Edgar Clark and Lovie Jane Lumpkin Clark. Before retirement, he was a dairy farmer. After retirement, he enjoyed working for Hard Labor Creek State Park in Rutledge.
