McCULLOCH - Dr. Charles Fraser Dr. Charles Fraser McCulloch passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his family on September 5, 2004 at the age of 83 years. He will be warmly remembered by his children, Geoff (Kitty) McCulloch, Dorothy (David) Love, Marg Hankey, all of Calgary, Chris McCulloch (Peter McLellan) of Halifax, N.S.; his eight beloved grandchildren, Anne, Erin, Jackie, Jessica, Megan, Jill, Emily and Thomas; sisters-in-law, Edna Larson of Calgary and Amy Lauridsen-Hoegh of Richmond, B.C.; and by other family members. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Elaine, son-in-law Jack Hankey and by his two sisters, Mary Wipf and Elsie Morrow. Charles was born in Rosetown, SK where he spent his youth. He completed a B.A. at the University of Saskatchewan then proceeded to Queen's University for his medical degree. He was a Fellow in Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. from 1953 to 1957. His early medical practice was in Regina, SK and as a country doctor for a short time in Lestock, SK. Charles had a distinguished medical career in Calgary for over forty years during which time he was Chief of Surgery at Calgary General Hospital, Professor of Surgery at the University of Calgary and Consultant in Surgery at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. Charles was an Elder at Grace Presbyterian Church throughout his life in Calgary. Charles will be sadly missed by family, friends and medical colleagues. SUDAR - Jovana 1940 - 2002 Jovana Sudar of Calgary passed away on Friday, December 20, 2002 at the age of 62 years. She was born August 12, 1940 in Belusic, Serbia and came to Canada in 1975. VALERI - Patricia Spencer Patricia Spencer Valeri passed away in the presence of her family and friends on December 22, 2002 at the age of 78 years. TAFT - John Fulton November 8, 1924 - June 23, 2003 John passed away after a brief illness. He is survived by a sister Evelyn in Banff, and a brother Bill in Etobicoke, Ontario. In addition five children, Kathy, Barbara, Bob, Gerry, Brenda, and five grandchildren survive him. John attended Rideau Park Junior High School and Central High School in Calgary. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force shortly after his eighteenth birthday in 1942. He trained as a Navigator and saw service on Lancaster Bombers in the European theater of operations. After the war he attended the University of British Columbia, graduating as a Geological Engineer in the class of 1950. His career involved twenty-five years in the Alberta oil industry and seven years in Libya. His other interest during this period included the purchase and renovation of the Bowden Inn. In the central Alberta region, he was well-known and respected by many people. Early retirement afforded him twenty-one enjoyable years, including a seven year residence in England combined with many winter years in Central Mexico. In addition to his many fine qualities, he attributes his long and happy life as a result of developing an affinity to beer at the age of sixteen, a taste he never tired of. His children would like those who are reading this notice, to know that we loved and respected him. Special thanks to Dr. Dunham, and nurse Val for their kind treatment. THEBERGE - Joan 1915 - 2003 Joan Theberge (nee Linden) of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Thursday, June 26, 2003 at the age of 88 years. Joan was born January 2, 1915 and came to Canada in 1945, the same year she married Delphis Theberge. They lived in Prairie River, Sask. for ten years before moving to Calgary in 1956. Joan enjoyed many happy years with the firm W.G. Milne, Architect, since moving to Calgary. Joan is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Fay Theberge of Calgary; three grandsons, Tyler (Kiyomi) of Calgary, Robin (Pam Perry) of Red Deer, Stacey (Terra Kehler) of Calgary. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ken Stephenson in England; her nephew Howard (Annette) Stephenson in England. She was predeceased by her husband Delphis in 1983. THONGER - Mary Cathryn (nee Howenka) Born in Regina, January 30, 1922 and passed away in Kelowna General Hospital, June 18, 2003. Mary is survived by her husband Ted; sons, Don and Jack (Paulina); her sisters, Madge Nowak and Dolly (Orest) Sopiwnyk; grandchildren, Lori, Brad, Conrad, Samantha, Meghan and Khia and nine great-grandchildren. For eighteen years Mary worked at the Colonel Belcher Veterans Hospital in Calgary. Mary and Ted moved to Kelowna in 1994 where they became actively involved in local seniors clubs. Mary was a keen golfer and avid Bridge player. WELCHER - Elizabeth (Betty) 1909 - 2003 Elizabeth (Betty) Welcher (nee Robertson) of Calgary passed away on Friday, June 27, 2003 at the age of 93 years. Elizabeth was born in Scotland on November 22, 1909, and lived most of her life in Montreal and Val Morin, PQ where she was an active volunteer in the community. In 1989 she moved to Calgary where she continued to be an active member of the community until illness several years ago prevented her from doing so. During her lifetime, she enjoyed making mittens, hats and baby blankets which she donated to those who needed them. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Irene Pfeiffer of Okotoks; her granddaughter Karen (Cary) Brus and their three children, Christopher, Andrew and Benjamin of Casper, WY. She will also be sadly missed by Robert Pfeiffer, John (Mary) Pfeiffer, Deborah Pfeiffer and family, and Heidi (Norman) Sparks and family, all of Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband Lorne, and son-in-law John Pfeiffer of Okotoks, AB, as well as daughter Janice, son-in-law Francis and grandson Robert of the USA. YEE - Edward Ming Edward Ming Yee passed away at the Foothills Hospital on June 26, 2003 at the age of 58 years. Edward is survived by his brother James; two sisters, Jean (Grant) and Julia (Larry). PONGRAC - Friedrich (Fred) 1923 - 2003 Fred Pongrac passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 17, 2003 at the age of 80 years. Fred was born April 9, 1923 in Judenburg, Austria. His career as a plumber was spent with William Anderson Master Plumbers. Upon his retirement Fred's focus became his grandchildren. Fred is survived by his loving wife Helen; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sue-Ellen and Tom Moore, Iris and Dave Stagg, and Karen Pongrac, all of Calgary; seven grandchildren, Kristen, Ryan, Jordan, Carly, Ben, Sarah, and Tim.
